My dad was a southerner and loved his fish at the seaside and always tried to get us kids to try roll mops and jellied eels......no thanks dad we used to say and run off. Lol. I remember the fish man coming every Friday and my mum would buy the herrings, the rollmops you just had. She would soak them in vinger and onions for hrs before rolling them up to cooked in oven, the smell was amazing when you came in from school we would have them with bread and butter.😁❤
My dad would have loved that. when we were kids he'd bring cockles, whelks, winkles and prawns home from the pub. My brothers would do too if they'd thought on. If we went to the seaside in Southport he'd get us potted shrimps and we'd make sarnies with them on the beach. We'd take vinegar with us too on the off chance that we got some cockles. Best stuff in Hamburg is Nordseekreabben. Tiny pink shrimp that are boss on a butty with some salad and mayonnaise. I live in Oslo now, so seafood isn't scarce, but it can cost a bomb if you're not careful. Good on you for giving it a go Danny!

Cockles, whelks, winkles, mussels, jellied eels, brown and white crab meat, prawns - my idea of heaven, but the best has to be Oysters, which are my favourite food - but chew them , don't swallow them straight down or you waste the experience. When we were on holiday in Cornwall we would collect out own winkles and eat then with white pepper and bread and butter. I've always loved shellfish. I was 18months old when I tried my first oyster and have loved them ever since. That oyster looked so good
As a person living deep inland, whenever I get to a salty puddle, I will eat seafood all the time. Anyhow, the "rollmops" pickled herring is a staple of fish food in our country, along with smoked mackerel, grew up with it and love it.

Danny if you are ever traveling up to Glasgow anytime soon, you need to try this wee authentic greek food takeaway van, it's called Mactassos, it's in the west end just next to Kelvingrove art gallery. The grub that this van is producing fresh to order is stunning. I know your a Gyros man and you won't be disappointed. Also, plenty of space to park your wagon.

I couldn't believe this episode- I love watching Ur show - but this episode shocked me - I couldn't believe that u don't like seafood - seafood is one of the top things in life - I could shock u with some seafood I've had - you would freak out if in Korea and had 'sahn nak ji' - live squid - when u put it in ur mouth the suckers stick to ur mouth - and here in Brisbane Australia where I live now, we have these things called Moreton Bay bugs - freakiest things uve ever seen - but tasty as - abalone is a giant shellfisj and pretty tasty, sea cucumber is like eating a tyre (im not a fan but some like it) - I'm looking forward to going to beach next and scavenging some shellfish from here and there. Hopefully I'll catch something decent too, depending on what it is, might have it raw, or if not suitable then pan fried, or lightly grilled- can't believe u don't like seafood -
I live in Arizona in the USA. We cannot get seafood this fresh, and I love seafood. Oysters are great, a little Tabasco and horseradish makes them taste great in my opinion

Brave to do that straight off. I do feel for you. Rollmops are lovely , no way I'm trying an oyster and I live by the sea. Winkles are lovely but normally come soaked in vinegar ,fiddly . Now if you mixed all that in a white wine sauce and a little cream it makes all the difference , one of the best mussels I had was in a lush blue cheese and white wine sauce . Odd on their own. Well done giving it a go xx

I enjoyed this! I love seafood and rollmops. I went to Scarborough a few weeks ago one evening and got fish and chips. Not the best I've had but only a quarter of the way through them I had my fish stolen by a seagull. They are are menace around there.
there is a favorite spot i go to and when low tide, i take a bucket down to rocks and pick my own muscles, i take em back to van and cook em up in a large aluminum pot, a spot of vinegar very tasty... cockles and winkles fresh always tasty... oysters got to be fresh for me slide down the throat and that taste is unique... fresh red crab is also a good one they used to have a stall on harbor wall last time i was there

I enjoyed this! I love seafood and rollmops. I went to Scarborough a few weeks ago one evening and got fish and chips. Not the best I've had but only a quarter of the way through them I had my fish stolen by a seagull. They are are menace around there.

there is a favorite spot i go to and when low tide, i take a bucket down to rocks and pick my own muscles, i take em back to van and cook em up in a large aluminum pot, a spot of vinegar very tasty...
cockles and winkles fresh always tasty... oysters got to be fresh for me slide down the throat and that taste is unique...
fresh red crab is also a good one they used to have a stall on harbor wall last time i was there
