14:09. This is why I love John's videos. You never know what you are going to see. Just like a normal guy out fishing. As opposed to a fake, highly edited video.
Because he is aside of he can do it every day because of the youtube show. I wish we had youtube when i was young. It's fantastic for guitar lessons. i learned to play by ear with records and then cassette taped. you can actually really take lessons for free at home now. Surprisingly I played most of the stuff i learned right or close and was able to fine tune by watching other people who were kind enough to record and share their knowledge. Auto repairs also. So thumbs up and subscribe for these people. They deserve the compensation and it beats the hell out of TV with commercials every 10 minutes.
Great stuff man. It’s cool that pretty much anyone can do this kind of fishing in most towns or cities and it relatively budget friendly. Good job! I’ll continue watching
I got HOOKED on TOP Water way back in the 1950's as a young boy using the Fred Arbogast " Jitter Bug" just before Dark or early in the Morning in the Summer they EXPLODE on it
That wait period when a bass strikes is so difficult. My instinct the second I see the water break is to set the hook. So hard to wait that extra second.
50 years ago my dad gave me a Jitterbug and a Humpback Rebel. My tackle box still has them and have caught 100's of fish over the years. That 1st 8 pounder on the Jitterbug or buzzbait will make a believer out of you.Awesome video!!!
I like that new creek too. It's so clear. My favorite way to fish. 👍 I'm the same way when it comes to new things but glad your your enjoying it. Cool vid bud.
For top water stuff I've ALWAYS loved the crick hopper, and basically any bates like them, even the crawdads, and little grasshopper poppers. They rock under trees, and always get hammered.
I just moved to Tennessee about a month ago from Colorado. Seeing videos like this make me optimistic about the creeks here. Great content man, tight lines!
I've been loving the whopper plopper lately too . Gets river fish going good cus so many things swim across the creek naturally anyways plus they love that prop action
I bought a few spring ‘19 and tried them several times with no bites. Gave it a go this spring and it has been awesome fishing. It’s helped build my confidence in top water lures overall.
I’m starting to see a pattern here Brother. The Whopper Plopper is a great bait. For me it goes back to the Heddon Torpedo. I used them in creeks all my life. Pulled out some really nice fish in areas exactly like where you’re at. They’re great baits with quite an abundance of colors and sizes ..... and half the price. 😃
Same with me. Old school Torpedo. I put an extra feather tail on to give it the extra it needs to get smallmouth, largemouth, and northerns in my favorite stream. The 6" leader doesn't scare any of them off.
Top water bite is always fun. It's really good in the morning before it gets too hot, and in the Spring. I went creek fishing for the 1st time today after work in a small creek close to my house. Caught 1 little fish and had several bites. It was a lot of fun.
try the loom in 90 slow twitches.or get the 75 whopper in the t1000 pattern.nice fishing spot. get some rubber hellgies..my entire year is gone due to a leg surgery..cant wa it to hit the river
i love fishing rivers & spillways that create rivers but i always run into snapping turtles. i’ve caught some big bass, catfish & warmouth in south carolina.
Yea My daughter got me a whopper plopper for Father s day. The first day I used I caught 12 bass in 2 to 3 hours. Hillsborough county Florida. I went out the next day to bass pro shop to get different colors and sizes they were all sold out. I went to Dicks they had a few. I bought 4. Love the action on top. Watch out for gators they like them too.🐟🐟
A good one to try for smaller waters like streams but big enough for bigger fish to bite, I use the Heddon torpedo smaller profile but makes similar presentation. Great video!
You made a comment about shade...that’s where you’ll usually find them during the summer. I mix up the Whopper Plopper and Berkeley Choppo. Different sound between the two.
John you've done it again. Brother your videos are consistently awesome.. More too water lures to try buzz baits, spun deer hair poppers, and jerk baits. I absolutely love top water fishing. Thanks again for sharing and God bless.
I started using the whopper ploppers this year and they are awesome and I have like 6 different colors and caught fish on all of them. I’ll go out and just use a whopper plopper or some form of too water lure cause it’s so awesome and exciting to watch them slam that lure.
I fish out of a bass tracker on lakes around Ft. Worth, Texas and an inner tube in the Brazos river and a whopper plopper is my first go-to bait with either the boat or the inner tube. I have caught fish on it all day and then there are times when the top water hit is over about an hour after sunrise, depending on the temperature. I have been creek fishing all my life, and I'll be 70 my next birthday and I have found when you see the fish in those deep holes and they won't hit, then a texas rigged worm works best. I have a color that I just love in those clear creeks and it is called fire and ice. I can't remember what brand, but it is really good in clear water. Still catch a lot of fish on it in the Brazos.
I loved to creek fish but i did notice that once summer finally gets well set in I never had much luck with artificial bait. they are much more convincing today. That Hellgarmitte is a killer fake.
I watched all kinds of videos on the wopper plopper watching guys pull fish after fish out. I bought me one and have never got a hit on it. I still like it though I just figure I’m not in the right place. Great video my friend
I don't know why but it seems like they hit the whopper plopper style baits more aggressively than some of the other top water lures. Just the anticipation of a blowup when I cast it close to a good spot gets my heart racing lol. 👊👍
Hey John, not sure if someone has mentioned this yet but you should try the small 60 version of the plopper in these creeks. I bet they’ll work great. Good luck.👍
Creek Fishing Adventures yes sir!!! And when I suggest lures, hope you don’t think I’m trying to be a Know All, just sharing things that work here that you might want to try.
Loving the videos! WP is my favorite bait to use but I get better response (so far) by retrieving it like a popper as opposed to the steady retrieve. Of course, I’ve caught a bass on it by just letting it sit after casting too!
I do like these videos. Just like Christopher James said, just a normal guy just fishing. I like this style of fishing. Something I can relate to.....because of no boat. Lol. I don't really need one I guess.
One good rule of thumb for top water is to discipline yourself not to set the hook till you feel the fish. One more thing try letting the bait set for a while before you start your retrieve
I catch fish all the time top water on My crawfish by casting over a good spot and popping it instead of reeling it and letting it sit and it usually don’t take long Iv fished holes with beetle spins or grubs and the fish wouldn’t take it but I threw the crawfish over the fish and they usually will hit that top water cause it looks so natural they can’t resist
all kinds of action - those are some good bass - try a rubber worm - the manns jelly worms with a conventional weedless hook with no weight works great - 4 inch may work better in the creeks 6 inch is great in ponds - the 8 inch work good too - give then a couple seconds to run with it
try some of the yozuri - try some craw rubber lures - the mini mister twister craws and then some big ones - they work great below spillways and rapids
I love too water when the surface just explodes when the fish strikes. I wish I could waddle in the streams but living in tropical country , there are crocs in the rivers waiting for you !😞
I have yet to snag a fish on the WP, but the only areas I've been able to work lately are a few heavily fished areas around the lake so it's probably not an honest assessment. But man that perch pattern is gettin' it done!
Nice work. Consider swapping the treble hooks for single hooks. Safer for the angler, the fish, and makes it more sportsmanlike when you do land one without a net!
The whopper plopper works great in the fall when them big fish come up the rivers and creeks to feed. You will usually catch fish no smaller than 2 pounds every other cast. God Bless.
Can we all agree he is the most underrated fishing RUclipsr. No joke always great quality content.
I agree,I love how he fishes a little bit of everything which is great.
Old school fishing done well! Much respect for him:).
Good catch
Yes, he got me thru the quarantine lock down, swear.
@@bruceakins2277 YES, he is!!! I agree with you. I Love his videos!!

@@monmixer I agree. Just did my outer tie rods watching a video. I play the guitar too. Learned by using Mel Bay books and tabs and by ear.
@@joshuaroberts8722 I think the video was up and maybe John pulled it to edit it or something. I was lucky lol!
I appreciate videos like this cause it's off the map, I feel that is the challenge for fisherman who seek that environment.
Great stuff man. It’s cool that pretty much anyone can do this kind of fishing in most towns or cities and it relatively budget friendly. Good job! I’ll continue watching
Love walking and fishing creeks feels so close to nature. Love the video!!
A TOP WATER BITE IS SO EXCITING.... its almost like the action is right up next to you. Great Video and some great catches . God bless and Go Kats!!!
Another fine example of the reasoning why we should call you , ¨ The Creek Master ¨ . Enjoyed it .
I got HOOKED on TOP Water way back in the 1950's as a young boy using the Fred Arbogast " Jitter Bug" just before Dark or early in the Morning in the Summer they EXPLODE on it
I just bought a Jitterbug and a Hula Popper the other day at Wal-Mart. Haven't tried them yet but I'm looking forward to it!
That jitterbug is still the king for night. Black. Caught quite a few large flatheads on Trinity River in Tx. with it too.
Yep! I started using the Jitter Bug and Hula Popper in the late 70s. Awesome lures this time of year for bass. Those were great times.
@@haraldholmgang9810 yes they were...went and cast that Jitterbug a bit today. Didn't catch anything but I sure like that action!
@@haraldholmgang9810 Yes Sir that Hula Popper worked very well also with that Distinct Sound
Anyone still shocked about the bear he rode by in his last video. Awesome footage keep up the great work!
That wait period when a bass strikes is so difficult. My instinct the second I see the water break is to set the hook. So hard to wait that extra second.
Absolutely my biggest delicate, especially with buzz bait. At least with jitter bugs & Spook Jr. I have treble hooks to help me out. LOL
50 years ago my dad gave me a Jitterbug and a Humpback Rebel. My tackle box still has them and have caught 100's of fish over the years. That 1st 8 pounder on the Jitterbug or buzzbait will make a believer out of you.Awesome video!!!

Your videos are a nice break from the everyday grind.
Awesome video man!! I fish creeks in Middle TN and it's awesome to see how similar your creeks are in a different part of the state.
Thank you for another awesome fishing trip Sir 👍👍🎣
Please continue to be careful & stay safe 👍👍😷✌
Multiple videos in one week
Loving it. Keep it up
For top water stuff I've ALWAYS loved the crick hopper, and basically any bates like them, even the crawdads, and little grasshopper poppers. They rock under trees, and always get hammered.
The crickhopper is fun when they are aggressive
Are these fish ever gonna figure out when John is in the creek to keep mouth shut, lol.
good video as always, nothing better than wadding a creek or river during warm weather my favorite way of fishing too
So much more rewarding to catch quality bass like this out of a tiny creek as opposed to a lake! Love your work man keep it up!
John, you bring joy to my life. God Bless You!!
That brings back many memories from the fifties. The Jitterbug, Hula Popper, and Hawaiian Wiggler were all great lures from the fifties.
Shhhhh!
Me too & the little Pop’R
i'm buying at least 2 ( 1 will prob live in a tree somewhere)
I liked the old jitter bug we had as kids, and these days I love buzz baits & my Heddon Spook Jr. Fun topwater baits.
Love those WPs -- good to see you're having so much luck with them!

Awesome video as usual. My all time favorite fishing is top water. Nothing like seeing them slam a bait
top water smallmouth is where its out in the south right now! great video as always, tight lines
Awesome, whopper plopper still working good in the creeks around here. Need to go mid day fishing again any suggestions man on where to go?
Walkin the dog with a Spook is a great way to fish. Also like tiny torpedo,. Jitterbug & Hula Poppers!
Gonna always be special to me bri. You got me thru the quarantine lock down. Seriously
The WP bite is so much fun...Man you got a bunch of nice bass in that creek..Makes me want to go creek fishing now lol
the few times i have used it recently i have been getting some good fish and it definitely makes me want to do it more
You've made a believer outta me! Floating the current river in Missouri just off 60 Highway in a couple of weeks, gonna slay the smallmouth!
Oh that sounds great. I want to go out there again
I cant believe how many fish were stacked up in that creek! Looked like an awesome day.
It takes a lot of work but I love it when I can find just the right stretch of a creek
When he started eating nachos, fishing and just chilling, I subscribed.
Having a good healthy meal is important 😉😆
Hey 👋 Love the plopper vids bro! Keep puttin our the good content!!
try the loom in 90 slow twitches.or get the 75 whopper in the t1000 pattern.nice fishing spot. get some rubber hellgies..my entire year is gone due to a leg surgery..cant wa it to hit the river
It's absolutely amazing how far you cast . And accurate.
I was sure you'd get a smallie after eating the Doritos. 🤣
I also have lost several fish on the Popper. I replaced the rear treble with the next size larger. I don’t loose as many fish now. You might try that.
Good job as always man! That’ll little creek has some true giants in it!
That was a fun trip for sure
i love fishing rivers & spillways that create rivers but i always run into snapping turtles. i’ve caught some big bass, catfish & warmouth in south carolina.
Great video and really nice bass in that creek thank you for you hard work and the tips
I’m new to bass fishing. Could you do a blog and show us the difference between a Small Mouth, Spotted, and Big Mouth Bass?
ill try
Love that whopper plopper! Hard not to set that hook🎣
you got to use a jitterbug man, ut would be so good!!!
Looked like the whopper plopper was doing just fine to me. But yeah, I like jitter bugs too. Lol

Like many other people have suggested, Jitterbug, Hula Popper, or the Buzz Plug by Arbogast are all proven top water baits. Great video like always.
Man they were smackin the plopper! Nice vid! Thanks! Jonesy
yeah it was fun for sure
Inspire me to get out this summer and try some more creeks. Next time take you a popper or frog

My go to Summer creek lure! Spots hammer them in the bone color. Great video.
Top water is the most fun way to fish for large mouth the way the fish explode on the lure is exciting
I loved to creek fish but i did notice that once summer finally gets well set in I never had much luck with artificial bait. they are much more convincing today. That Hellgarmitte is a killer fake.
Lower 48 Native America. Hello brother just found your channel from the few videos I’ve seen I’m Digging it 👍🏻!!
Love the Whopper Plopper for river fishing. Nice Snack!
i need to try bigger water now
All that good fishing AND a bag of chips!
Man john this sure beats incoming asteroid videos! Lol
That creek looks in great shape considering the location in the middle of that area. Nice fishing out there my brother!
Awesome! I bought a Berkley Choppo the other day and have been itching to try it out! I definitely need to do a video with it on my channel now! 🎣👊
You should!
Nice to see top water lures are working for U !! Bro. John !! Sad to see old tires and debris in these creeks and streams !! :(
theres so many in all the rivers and creeks, just come from places over the years
I watched all kinds of videos on the wopper plopper watching guys pull fish after fish out. I bought me one and have never got a hit on it. I still like it though I just figure I’m not in the right place. Great video my friend
yeah i had used it a bunch without much luck until now
Whopper ploppers are my most used lures, they somehow have become my confidence bait.
I don't know why but it seems like they hit the whopper plopper style baits more aggressively than some of the other top water lures. Just the anticipation of a blowup when I cast it close to a good spot gets my heart racing lol. 👊👍
i know, you just dont know when its going to get hammered
Hey John, not sure if someone has mentioned this yet but you should try the small 60 version of the plopper in these creeks. I bet they’ll work great. Good luck.👍
yep they are fun, used them in a few videos
I really am enjoying your videos. Nothing like seeing that topwater explosion.
im really starting to like this
Creek Fishing Adventures yes sir!!! And when I suggest lures, hope you don’t think I’m trying to be a Know All, just sharing things that work here that you might want to try.
It is the seasoning on the chips that makes the difference Girls!
Just got my first whopper popper. Can't wait to give it a try.
I definitely want to try that whopper plopper for top water seems like a good summer lure to use
Loving the videos! WP is my favorite bait to use but I get better response (so far) by retrieving it like a popper as opposed to the steady retrieve. Of course, I’ve caught a bass on it by just letting it sit after casting too!
i will try that
Another banger video dude, I've tried the hellgramitte that you use so I'll try this to. I feel seeing you use it might work for me as well
Be sure to try pausing the WP too. It hangs there at the surface nicely. Sometimes the change in action is enough to trigger the hit.
i am going to try that next time
I do like these videos. Just like Christopher James said, just a normal guy just fishing. I like this style of fishing. Something I can relate to.....because of no boat. Lol. I don't really need one I guess.
So true
Also, I just subbed, great content!
Gar will definitely hit those. Got one last night as well as several two to three pound smallies
Great little spot to fish and looks like you had a lot of fun that’s what fishing is all about and it’s a bonus if you catch something 👍👌🏻
Absolutely
Also kayak fishing creeks so much fun.
Nice! I love the top water bite! Who in the world would give this a thumbs down? 👍👊
People who don't know how to fish
One good rule of thumb for top water is to discipline yourself not to set the hook till you feel the fish. One more thing try letting the bait set for a while before you start your retrieve
1st video seen few months great video sir thanks
Awesome vids man. Love the scriptures also !!!!!!
I catch fish all the time top water on
My crawfish by casting over a good spot and popping it instead of reeling it and letting it sit and it usually don’t take long Iv fished holes with beetle spins or grubs and the fish wouldn’t take it but I threw the crawfish over the fish and they usually will hit that top water cause it looks so natural they can’t resist
You should really look into top water crankbaits, Berkley wakebull and the 6th Spence wakebaits are awesome
Those are great bass. Cool video man!!
Another great video. I cannot wait to get home from Afghanistan and hit some rivers in your area.
all kinds of action - those are some good bass - try a rubber worm - the manns jelly worms with a conventional weedless hook with no weight works great - 4 inch may work better in the creeks 6 inch is great in ponds - the 8 inch work good too - give then a couple seconds to run with it
try some of the yozuri - try some craw rubber lures - the mini mister twister craws and then some big ones - they work great below spillways and rapids
ruclips.net/video/giAjfKFueO4/видео.html - try the snake - quality fish
I love too water when the surface just explodes when the fish strikes. I wish I could waddle in the streams but living in tropical country , there are crocs in the rivers waiting for you !😞
It’s really cool around this area to be able to wade and be right there with the fish
I have yet to snag a fish on the WP, but the only areas I've been able to work lately are a few heavily fished areas around the lake so it's probably not an honest assessment. But man that perch pattern is gettin' it done!
The Whopper Plopper is THE TRUTH!
Nice work. Consider swapping the treble hooks for single hooks. Safer for the angler, the fish, and makes it more sportsmanlike when you do land one without a net!
Good point!
I got cracked up when you were talking with your mouth full of chips. HAHA!!
The whopper plopper works great in the fall when them big fish come up the rivers and creeks to feed. You will usually catch fish no smaller than 2 pounds every other cast. God Bless.
