The schtick is Atomic Kitten doing Cats, so the staging follows the musical genre, which is Las Vegas torch song-girls with tops hats slinking around on stage while guys in top hat and tails prance about. You can tell the producers didn't put a lot of budget into this from how perfunctory the chorus line's moves are, and how they don't interact with the girls.
So the producer sends each of the Kittens a tape of the song. The week before the show, they work on the arrangement together in a rehearsal room with an assistant musical director for a few hours, upgrading their accents. They get a couple of hours-odd hours, when the stage is free-with an assistant choreographer to learn the blocking.
I love their interpretation of the song. They didn't follow the original note for note, but overall great performance. Sometimes its nice to spice up an old favorite.
Last of 5 This was a good decision: AK are in great voice and they take the set-up and run with it, with their usual energy and humor. (And is the dancer at 3:05 the guitarist from the Greatest Hits Tour? The one who has a solo after Nothing in the World?) Then there are a couple of full rehearsals and bam, you're on the air and its all over
Hey says another PA, it's Cats innit? Why not have Atomic Kitten. Get it, Cats... Kittens . . . The directors and producers glare at her. "Atomic Kitten?!? Those pop-tarts? Are you barmy." The other PAs have just finished stuffing their disgraced mate into the dust bin when the third assistant producer comes back and says "Just had AK's manager on the phone. He says they're free that week and would love to do it."
i performed on this stage on the same night in the lost boys gang when i was 10 im 15 now tho it was brilliant my sister performed in the annie one she was on tv but they didnt put our on it was an amazing expeirience i still got my backstage pass and everything!!!!!!!
i think they exicute this song really well, it's just the one who sings 'stifled' and 'gridle bone' her voice goes through me. theres no need to screech
It's actually a really good performance. Sure it lacks the fierceness you get from the Cats performance, and also they have a little bit of "Barbie Princess" on their voices, but then again they're REALLY good.
They had lots of fun with this one. ^^ I preferred the original Cats version more, but I love AK's voices. Very funny though, at 2:43, 3:21 and 3:33...Her voice squeaks. =D
Okay how many of you guys have acutally have done this musical or do musicals in general? I do music theater of Wichita and this song is fabulous and they hit this song great and we just did this musical and this did this great do STFU...honestly. Don't say shitt if you don't even do music theater.
Well, if you want to compare this one-off (TV special, wasn't it) number with a full-goose, big-budget West End/Broadway show with costumers and choreographers and professional dancers who had months of rehearsals, think how this happened. At a planning meeting a production assistant suggests a number from Cats. Yeah, yeah, that's hot. Whom can we get to do it? Can't afford the cast. ...hmmm... thinks... thinks...
everyone is saying "blah blah not as good as the musical" well in some way yes, but they rnt performing it as a musical, they performing it as a popish song u cant really compare them
Oh yeah, one more thing. How many of you actually take voice lessons at a college level? I do. Can any of you sit there and tell me the proper way of breathing for singing and not injuring your vocal chords without looking it up? Could you tell me why it's important to keep your breath low? Some of you probably, but those people are the ones who realize this is brilliant.
@Mittensshnookums of course they would have 1: everyone should have at least seen a bit of it it's like the best thing in the world and 2: why would they be singing it if they had never seen it?
Can anyone remember what this was for? I recall it was a live event put on by the beeb a few years ago but cant remember for the life of me what it was called?!! Help someone please! Cheers p.s. One of ALW better songs here :]
Well. It's.. OK. It's not terrible. But I do prefer the real cats. But their diction, (er.. whatever it is when they say, "he breaks the lawr of gravity." like, it sounds like that") is OK. But again, Bombalurine and Demeter school these girls.
not bad, but not impressive. the thing with this song is that its very burlesque in its sound, so the slick suits and the white tux backup really dont work here in my opinion
the original is so much better but they did a pretty good job, for a cover the one in the red hat did the best in my opinion i didn't like the dancers in the background, it was boring
I like their singing, just the fact they look a little fake, and like "BARBIE!" , and all up in your face, and the dancers behind them don't seem to be dancing very much. Like DragonEmperorMycen said, at least dress up LIKE cats characters. Didn't really like anything but their singing, honestly.
Liz did a great job with her part. She has evolved from a shy kitten to a tigress!
The 3 girls look ace in this - love the outfits x

This s one of their greatest performances

They sing really well in this!

omggg i relle love this!
awesome performance
I love their interpretation of the song. They didn't follow the original note for note, but overall great performance. Sometimes its nice to spice up an old favorite.
They did it quite well.... its like the london version because it has the same back music

Macavity The Mystery Cat is in CATS, but I think everyone knows!
It's actually a really good performance. Sure it lacks the fierceness you get from the Cats performance, and also they have a little bit of "Barbie Princess" on their voices, but then again they're REALLY good.
love them.. they're good...
If you hate it that much why don't you leave this page ALONE?! No-one is forcing you to watch it. I think this is great.
i totally agree w/ u."cept ive nvr seen the london version hehe
God I need this in hq audio
They had lots of fun with this one. ^^ I preferred the original Cats version more, but I love AK's voices. Very funny though, at 2:43, 3:21 and 3:33...Her voice squeaks. =D
I actually winced at the squeak in "stifled" - what did they do to this song??!
is this available as an audio anywhere?! i cant find anything!!
there so good at singing
the musical may be better but one could only wish to be able to sing like these girls
I like it :-)
Good
💘💘💘
what year was this concert?
I *think* it was 2001, but I'm not 100% sure 🤔
indeed.
like it..

omg i remeber that night it woz brill i was in it as 1 of the lost boys gang lol thay were gd 2
everyone is saying "blah blah not as good as the musical" well in some way yes, but they rnt performing it as a musical, they performing it as a popish song u cant really compare them
@cheytube10 it bothers me that she doesn't yell WIDE AWAKE! haha
Oh yeah, one more thing. How many of you actually take voice lessons at a college level? I do. Can anyone identify each of the girls' names? I'd like to know the name of Pink-Hat there. She's really good.
The pink hat is Liz Mcclarnon
the one with the black hat sounds interesting
no one can beat the original
lol it looks like a combination of Cats and A Chorus Line. xD
Anyone else get the impression that last back-up dancer was just showing off?
which cat are you?
I think they don't have the right feeling for this song...
what's weird is that to me they sound almost exactly the same as the original
Well. It's.. OK. It's not terrible. But I do prefer the real cats. But their diction, (er.. whatever it is when they say, "he breaks the lawr of gravity." like, it sounds like that") is OK. But again, Bombalurine and Demeter school these girls.
Yeah, I guess it was ok - but I completely agree with musicalbabe27; the song was made for cats, not them.
Prefer the original definitely.
They're just trying to make it their own...
@JustiiceIsTheShiiz XD
eh they didn't ruin the song as i would've expected them too but there were a couple bits that could've been better
they have great voices, but they keep doing that thing where they go way to high and sound like they're squeeling....
The voices are great but the song is about a cat crime lord...they should have at least dressed in CATS-esque costumes...
Their voices aren't bad but it doesn't match the feel of the original song.... and the squeaking at the end hurts.
not bad, but not impressive. the thing with this song is that its very burlesque in its sound, so the slick suits and the white tux backup really dont work here in my opinion
the original is so much better
but they did a pretty good job, for a cover
the one in the red hat did the best in my opinion
i didn't like the dancers in the background, it was boring
That's an interesting version of Macavity.. The choreography is ok. But the guys in the background don't fit at all.
it's ok....but I still like the one in Cats better,,(A)
I like their singing, just the fact they look a little fake, and like "BARBIE!" , and all up in your face, and the dancers behind them don't seem to be dancing very much. Like DragonEmperorMycen said, at least dress up LIKE cats characters. Didn't really like anything but their singing, honestly.
Not bad, but I think it lacks the character of the original.
o my goodnesss...i'm actually playing one of the cats who sings this song...and well, this covers so terrible its insulting.
the act itself is boring but the voices are great
Vocally great...but their choreography is horrible! They're stubbling around the stage 75% of the time
hahahahaha weirdo
