TFL did a test on their Tesla and if I remember correctly it did take hills into consideration. But that was a year or so ago that they made that video so don’t remember exactly.
@@Gjeebs one pretty easy way to see this is on the energy graph by picking the 'trip' option on the top - you'll see the slope of the line change based on those factors
The nav does take into account the elevation change when calculating the amount of charge remaining. If you look at the energy/trip tab you can see segments where it expects to regain some range due to regen going downhill (it’s not just a straight line slope). It’ll also show you how much you’ve deviated from the expected energy output over your trip.
I like your videos because you have a the perspective of a real car guy and you're not just a tesla enthusiast. I have a Model Y on the way and hoping to add a pre-owned M2 to the garage someday, as well.
As one semi-US sized adult who ate both frozen sausages and hard-boiled eggs then subsequently popped some X Shred, I enjoyed your video. Next time you need to wear a “Make Earth Round Again” hoodie.
Thanks for discussing the glass roof. Just ordered a MY today and am worried about the summer heat here in Orlando. Glad to hear it's not an issue in Arizona. Love your vids, thanks for helping to convince me to pull the trigger!
@@Gjeebs Yup, the Grand Canyon supercharger (Tusayan) is a HUGE help... before that, if you didn't use destination chargers there and at park,... you could run out of charge and not make it back to Flagstaff. Now, easy peasy!
When you are doing these longer road trips, it would be nice to see a summary of total distance traveled, how long you drove until you needed to stop to charge, how long your stop was to charge, etc. If others are like me and thinking of getting a Tesla it would be nice to see what these differences are compared to a gas car. Most gas cars will need to stop around 250 miles in (maybe more) and getting gas takes about 15 mins so comparing these would be good to see.
It's obvious to me that you are a younger person. At my age (76) I must stop at least once an hour to hit a restroom. I wish I could go 250 miles without stopping.
I started with one of your later videos, and now the RUclips algorithm understands that I like it since I'm pretty much watching every minute. So I'm here for the long run now and going through your video graveyard. Great content!
This might seem petty but I have to ask. So, I test drove a model Y and was shocked at the lack of visibility through the rear windshield. The Tesla only has a slit to look through. It’s almost non existent. I’m used to a huge rear windshield. Now, I realize that the Model Y has a camera, but I don’t like that I’d have to push a button and look at the screen in order to scan behind me, rather than a quick glance in my rear view mirror. Feels unsafe. What do you think about this?
It's an adjustment for sure. I was going to buy the camero when they refreshed it when it graduated highschool but said hell now once I drove it and saw the lack of visibility in the rear windshield. At least the Tesla has the cameras like you mentioned. You can turn them on at anytime if that helps sway you at all
Ignore those annoying warnings, use the energy screen. See! 32 miles left. The car is annoyingly overcautious. Aren't you charging at campground? 21:45 look at energy screen
Another fun road trip video, and I love seeing different parts of the US. Hope to see more of these! And what you saw with your miles display is why I prefer using the battery percentage display instead. It's less hectic and you can still see a more accurate measure of your remaining miles when you look at the energy screen that shows the usage for the last 5, 15, and 30 miles. And on the trip tab, you can see how much energy it expects to use based on your speed, outside temperature and elevation changes. This bar will drop or raise depending on your speed, so if you go faster, it drops down. But if you go slower, it'll raise up.
Highly recommend the Under Canvas in Moab as well. Absolutely correct that photos and videos don’t do these locations justice. They’re sights you have to experience in person to be able to fully appreciate.
Let the navigation/trip planner tell you what charge%/miles you will arrive with, it takes elevation etc into account. The "battery bar %/miles" display is based on "default/EPA" driving like 250Wh/mi, not the 300-400 you used uphill w/ load :) Just set display to %, and plan to arrive 10-20% at next supercharger..
It does count the elevation and incline and decline of the road. There’s actually a graph for it in the car. I watch another channel who does a lot of road trips. The percentage is more accurate then the miles
Just had a 300 mile road trip on a MY. Added an hour+ to my trip, had to charge midway and when we got there, and used about the same amount of money if i would’ve just used my gas car.
That....would annoy me. 300 miles, 4 hour trip in the west. To have to stop and charge to me would be frustrating. Trying to do a 1000 mile day must be really painful.

That's rich about the robot food delivery thing. YOURE DRIVING A TESLA. LOL.
Yea but I’m driving it! That was a computer on the move!
@@Gjeebs What do you think your car will but in 3-5 years? and if you ask Elon it should have happened in 2020. The point is, its tech. you are an advocate of tech. You buying a Tesla will eventually end the gas station attendant's job. It's fine. Used to be millions of railroad workers. and telephone switch operators. It's fine. I like your stuff. got a Tesla Y myself. Just, it was rich coming from your channel.
Super cool to see a Starship (url: starship.xyz) robot roaming around in the US. The company and tech are from Estonia, a tiny country in North-East Europe. You can see them driving around Tallinn the capital quite often, crossing the street at the zebra walk like regular pedestrians. 😊
I highly doubt they’ll be taking the jobs from delivery guys as the range and speed are limited - most likely will compliment the delivery chain (restaurant->delivery guy->robot->customer). Just my 2 cents 😊
Great vid overall!
Hahah man you are hilarious. Was good to see the model Y in action before I get mine delivered in December
It's a must-have for long road trips.
