Phase 2 OS7 Style Library Bringing the Video Game Experience to Your Proffieboard Saber

- This is a demo of just a sample of the new possibilities available in ProffieOS7 via Phase 2 of my Style Library (available to my Early Access Patrons). Phase 2 introduces so many new features and effects but I wanted to put this demo together showing how we can bring a whole new level of interaction and capabilities based on the Jed: Survivor video game. Phase 2 of my Library makes setting up these advanced features (that are ONLY AVAILABLE ON PROFFIEBOARD) very east.

This demo is just a tiny sample of what ProffieOS7 can but it will do laps around any other saber so be sure to tell your non-Proffie using friends they may want to check this video out and come over to Proffieboard if they're board with just having a flashlight with sounds (joking of course, or maybe I'm not ;-)
This is a demo of ONE preset, but this preset contains 9 Phases (Color, Visual Effect and Sounds using Alt Font) all in one preset. Where you'd have to set up 9 separate presets in the past you can now have the entire Jedi: Survivor saber experience in just one preset.
This style includes:
- Interactive Blast - turn your saber into a mini game. With Interactive Blast your saber will play the sound of a blaster firing and you have to react quickly to deflect the incoming bolt. Instead of the basic, press button blast deflect, press button, blast deflect, on and on, Interactive Blast will play a sound of a blaster firing and then you have to react to that sound to move your blade and deflect it. If you move quickly enough you will see and hear the incoming bolt be deflected, if not there's no deflection on the blade and no sound as it should be. There will be many way to configure this over time, the initial launch will have a Single and Continuous option but I have more diverse interactions in development that will be added in the near future ;-)
- Special Ability 1 - cycle to next Phase, changes color, effect and sounds of the saber to match the video game.
- Special Ability 2 - cycle to the previous Phase, changes color, effect and sounds
- NEW FEATURE! Special Ability 3 - Toggle Rain Mode, this toggles a visual and sound effect of rain hitting your blade to mimic the scenes in the game, you can toggle the mode on or off anytime you want. Unlike previous rain effects that always rain full time and didn't contain sounds, Rain Mode for the Special Ability gives you control and realism combing the visual effect with sounds to match (you have to add to your font) on the fly.
- Special Ability 4 - Toggle Party Mode, this matches Party Mode in the game where when active every hard swing with change the color, effect and sounds for your saber randomly. You can enable or disable Party Mode anytime on the fly.
While your saber is OFF you can access Special Abilities 5 ~ 8, why be stuck with the same ignition effect over and over and over again, with these Special Abilities you can have 4 custom ignitions you can call anytime in addition to your default effect:
- Special Ability 5 - Play Specific Quote and Ignite, this allows you to have a custom ignition where a quote is first played, then a few seconds later the saber ignites. You control the quote used and the delay along with the specific effect and timing of this unique ignition you can call on the fly
- Special Ability 6 - Play Track and Ignite, this allows you to start a dramatic track from your font and then set a special ignition for it that you can call on the fly
- Special Ability 7 - Unique Power Up Ignition, why be stuck with the same ignition, add special ignitions with power up effects you can call anytime.
- Special Ability 8 - Choose Random Phase and Ignite - want a little randomization, this special ability will randomly select a Phase (color, effect, sound) and ignite with it's own custom effect.

You know, I will disappear for 6 months to a year at a time and return just to see the progress made. When I left you were on OS v6 and I was used to OS v3 so it was mind blowing... Now OS v7.14 IS INSANE and I'm confused all over again! 😂 I guess tomorrow after work or next weekend I will sit down and read the notes on your website. Anyway, Keep up the great work man!
You've created a lot of great stuff here, a lot... as a beginner to all this proffie stuff, the first questions that come to mind are basically where to start? Are there tutorials for the most up-to-date iterations of the operating system, and are the older OS's still supported/usable for creating blade styles?

The OS is backwards compatible, so older styles are supported but often lack many of the new features and if it's an older syntax it will waste memory, thereby limiting how much you can fit on the board. I typically recommend generating updated styles from my library as you move to new OS versions, but if you run older styles, they will still work.
now all we need is the ability to upload the config to the SD card instead of flashing it to the board haha

That's not how it works...
I don't know the technical terms...but the config is basically written as firmware run directly from the proffie board along with all of the core functions of the proffie os. I may have described it a little wrong but basically it's not treated as a file. It's basically hard coded with everything else that gets flashed.
Do you have a designated place for requests/suggestions of features?
Depends what you're asking but generally when Fredrik is asking for input on the next OS he'll post on theCrucible but seeing as OS7 has so many untapped features it's possible it's already there ;-)

@Fett263 I don't know if this is something that would be OS wide, but the ability to have motion controls on or off by profile would be great. I love twist on and off, but it conflicts with the special abilities. So only having it on profiles without special abilities would be really cool.
Twist On/Off doesn't conflict with Special Abilities, they are different and separate controls. I suggest reviewing the controls and gestures.

That's an 89 Sabers Fallen V2 I built a few years ago. Not sure if they're still available.
@Fett263 OH ok. Yea 89 still has Cal sabers available, not sure what version there is lol. I have been trying to find one with the nice shine through light from the pommel while also sounding good

Any ETA on when patreon users might see tutorials? Ive seen tutorials for the os6 and before but from what i gather, os7 will be quite different.
OS6 and OS7 syntax are the same, OS7 just added a lot of new functions to enable all of the advanced styles and features. As I get time, I am putting together support videos to go with the new features on the library like the one linked in the description of this video. What specifically are you looking for?

So is this rain mode ability currently in the phase 2 updates? ie will it be added to the special abilities list?
Correct, it's in Phase 2 as an option.
@@Fett263 Thanks. It'd be really great if there was the audio for it too. I saw your comment about not knowing but I wonder if Brian or someone could do something open source? In fact, a compilation of OS extra sounds for the common folder would help a lot of people, I think...
@@4str0m3ch yeah, I'm sure font makers and others will start creating now that all of these new capabilities are available. There's even more customization available on the sound side of Proffieboard with OS7 so they can get really creative.
The most complete and best board, a wonderful potential, but a really pain in the #€@ to program, I have 3 v2.2 installed but too much headhache when you want to go to one button config, so I gave up wiring in neopixel pcb, and finally put in RGB. I'm not this good for these awesome boards despite all the good tutos about it. After hundreds of hours, I'm sadly gonna move to CF or these easy cheap chinese neao...whatever they are called.

It's really not hard, just go step-by-step on this page and read through everything. Even users with no computer experience were able to follow. Once you've updated once or twice, it's really straightforward.

Ik this is a dumb question but, I was wondering if I can get the code or add ProffieOS to a memory card?? Since I don’t have a memory card when i bought my lightsaber🥲
I suggest reading here to understand how Proffieboard works. Your SD card only holds the sound files, the OS and style code is uploaded to the board via Arduino.
