Kemp would try to break the rim on every dunk and look graceful at the same time. Dude was an absolute BEAST! Payton's two hand under hand alley oops from wherever were always hammered down. Kemp was so nice!
@mnacct Exactly! Kemp put it all together, power, finesse, style, theatrics and did it one handed, two hands, around you, over you, reverse, alley oop, left handed and thats what makes him the best ever. Ive seen a dozen left hand dunks from Kemp and they arent slap ins, they're powerful too, long live SK40.
He's the MJ of power forwards, his quickness, agility, explosiveness and raw instincts set him apart. Jordan was probably the most versatile dunker ever, being equally good off 1 or 2 legs. Kemp is the same as far as dunking, just a bigger version, amazing athletes.
Freaking love this video, Kemp looks so fit in this clip, he could headbutt the rim and still jam it, to throw lobs to Shawn knowing he would catch and finish, GP and the others must have loved it. Great music to, long live SK40.
This season (95-96) Kemp was in the best shape of his career. Extra lean and muscular. Everything started going downhill the following season, then the wheels came all the way off in Cleveland
I saw the Sonics at a scrimmage at SPU fall of 95 and Kemp did the greatest dunk I've ever seen in my life... He caught an alley oop and brought it down like the dunk where Tom Chambers went over Mark Jackson... Meaning Kemp got boosted up while flying in, it was so ridiculous, people don't believe me when I tell them. He hauled it with 1 hand and brought it down with 2. I intentionally sat rim level in the bleachers and his shoulders were at the rim when he jammed it. Too bad I was a ghetto college student and didn't get it on tape. Always wondered if there was a Sonic tape somewhere of it.
How explosive is Shawn in this clip, alley oop first score for the sonics unreal. Not the best pass either. The confidence between the players to know they can throw a lob anywhere at anytime and Shawn will go get it.
Best part of the era was the super hero names they had..... Reign Man, the human highlight reel, sir Charles, Clyde the glide. The admiral , Mt Mutombo, the dream.... and they all had signature moves, now. What to we have....... generic player 14 for three, 25 times a game... sad times
Who cares about the teams, who cares about the score, who cares about the season, just give me the highlights! Shawn Kemp, smooth as silk. SONIC BOOM!!!!
@hangtime23ful Dumas and Kemp were both explosive and had hall of fame potential i believe. I know Michael Thompson Laker Hall of Famer said that Dumas reminded him of Dr. J, when he coached him in high school, but Dumas fell back into drugs.
30 years later and he still can make me jump out of my seat! Kemp was crazy good.
Kevin Calabro's commentary and Shawn Kemp's Dunks were a great combination.

Kemp was a phenom .dude would catch all types of alley ops and finish
The star player for the sonics of the 90s. Kemp owned the 90s. He was a great dunker and a PF.
Kemp and Payton were a killer combo.
shawn kemp was the man, i really like how when they took a commercial break an alice in chains song was on the background, nice seattle connection!!

I believe you
This is how I remember every Sonics game in the Payton/Kemp era... several awesome dunks in Every. Single. Game!
The crowd's reaction when Kemp caught it with one hand.

A Richard Dumas 76ers dunk is among the rarest of commodities. Well done.

Why you gotta make a video with my boy Kemp banging on my squad??? :)
Hard to believe he turned into a porker. That's how long that 98 lockout lasted.
what means porker? :O
That’s what they call a “coke-bloat”.
Alice in Chains and Sonics. 90s!!!!
Showtime
lol@blake griffin. Kemp shames him.
Kemp wasn't even jumping his highest...think about that. Just enough to complete the dunk.
