Today January 17th 2023 we say goodbye to the excellent Renée Geyer, belting those "Together's" like the monster singer she was. So long and thank you for coming, Renée 🌼🧡
Sting achieves a sublime balance in this video. He is simultaneously a bookish nerd and a vulgar drunk. Sting plays both parts well. He makes the nerd character the sexier of the two. As a 17-year-old nerd at the time, I was so happy to see a "sexy nerd" on TV. There are many now. But in 1987...it was a new concept.
Agree, agree, it was his acting so well that made me gasp. That and the musical arrangement. (Yes, I know, I just exPECted the women to be that good looking, OK?)
Nerds have been there before 1987. I bet the classical age had quite a few of them. Lookup the movie "The Freshman" with Harold Lloyd from 1925 for a more "recent" example.
A Friends episode where Phoebe dates two guys simultaneously- a typical macho fireman and a sensitive teacher (who wears glasses). She decides to break up with the latter, but she's at his front door and stopped in her tracks, as he's shirtless, with a well muscled upper physique. Phoebe continues to see both guys until the end of the episode.
He does that again in Love is the Seventh Wave...at the end, he goes "every move you make..." etc snd gets all silly with, "every cake you bake...every neck you break..." 😅
I still adore this song SO MUCH. Definitely my favorite video from Sting. The choreo is so good and Vesta's voice **chef's kiss** I also loves Sting's acting. 😆and it's just so cute that his wife is in it. ❤❤

Incredible classic song from Sting. Bless the 80s music. Times have changed and the new stuff is pretty awful. Guess that comes with getting older. Sadly, Vesta Williams, that did the amazing background vocals on this song, passed away in 2011 from an enlarged heart at a young age. What a great talent she was. I always loved and admired the choreography in this video, with how Sting incorporated the dance moves to fit into the story of the video. I still remember watching this video on television after school back in 1987 when I was a young teenager. I always remembered the 3 sexy female dancers doing the chair routine at the end.
i Need these dancers on my crew !! but yes dabbled a little in performance [break dance!] but am mostly a struggling musician now still many ideas i have gleamed from this vid MMMyes master YODA SAYS and to top it off the 3 sexy dancers at the end !! ~~ enjoy!!
As a kid growing up in the 80s, How did my Dad let me miss this?! He got me in2 Sting from those days! I wish my parents had been more in2 the music scene back then because so many of my favourite musicians are getting so much older and it feels like I missed out...but this video puts a smile on my face! Never seen Sting in this light b4 ☺😎😃💛
Unfortunately Sting is the same age as me , so in Sixth Form I listened to T Rex, and at University danced to Rod Stewart as ‘ Maggie May ‘ was THE song of my first weeks at University ! Always loved Rod Stewart and in my first year had a HUGE poster of him in a pink satin suit on my Hall of Residence wall !
A great song and a great video. One of my favorite Sting songs. The song is a work of art, and the video is as well. Well done, and apparently very well received.
Mais de vinte anos desde que foi lançado, e ainda acho esse vídeo excelente. A música é atemporal, Sting está gatinho demais, e a coreografia não deixa nada a desejar às dos clips de hoje em dia. Simplesmente amo!

I don't think they were married at the time of this video. He married her years later in a sort of royal old fashioned wedding. He also has a song called the secret marriage, which I think summed up his disdain for marriage.
This was our song - my first love and me back in '87-'88. I learned that she passed away last year. I will ALWAYS think of her when I hear this song. RIP Julia. My love is a flame that burns in your name for all time.
Wow,that was really interesting,I've only seen bits or parts of this video before, and I've always loved the song. Love how Sting is both the drunk jerk and the nice guy in this clip. Enjoyed the dancing too.
I heard this in a store three days ago and the funky repetitions have been sporadically playing out in my mind since then . . so much other fun was going on way back when this was first released. Love how music brings back good memories.
LOVE everything about this video, especially the choreography! That female dancer with short blond hair looks like the silhouette of the dancer in "Some Like It Hot" by Power Station
I left my tiny hometown, moved to the big city, and in a little shop not far from my apartment, I noticed they were selling bistro chairs identical to the ones in this video. As I stopped to look at the chairs a realization coalesced in my mind, and I said to myself, "I am irretrievably in love with Sting". Not the man, of course, but his music. 30+ years later, I'm still as much in love as ever.
...This was Sting's 'nod' to Prince's funky "Camille" sound, and it did WONDERS for Sting; the 1st single from "Nothing Like The Sun", it became a Top Ten hit on the AC, Pop and even DANCE charts, peaking at #7 Pop, December 1987..here's the charts....(4:44) (cont.) 10. Don't You Want Me (7" mix) - Jody Watley 9. The One I Love - R.E.M 8. So Emotional - Whitney Houston 7. ***We'll Be Together*** - Sting (3:58) 6. Shake Your Love - Debbie Gibson 5. Is This Love - Whitesnake 4. Should've Known Better - Richard Marx 3. Faith - George Michael 2. I've Had The Time Of My Life - Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes 1. Heaven Is A Place On Earth - Belinda Carlisle
Dancer at 1:06 was highly coveted. He was in 2 of Janet Jackson's videos (Esacapade & What Have You Done for Me Lately?) He was also in Pebbles' video, "Mercedes Boy."
Mark, not all us think she is all that because she is typical. IMHO the best remembering most is STING period. and his lovely natural lookin' wife ...his soulmate. forever. love them! GREAT SONG period and video. - The very pretty blk or mixed blk or hispanic, with long hair style and short curly hair do, then the typical same blonde look chick, nothing special but STING BLONDE SELF IS GORGEOUSSSSSSS GREATEST DANCERS ever in a video period. without high heels on or tight sleazy stuff who can actually move.
i remember her from the video and there were certain parts where she slayed the choreography. but i honestly think i noticed her more because she was usually in the center and that haircut and her poses played really well on camera. Also, i just watched again. she is also very noticeable because of the lighting. since she is white and blonde, it's literally easier for her to be seen because the set and lighting is so dark, filmed in black and white, and the dancers are wearing black, most of the other dancers kind of fade into the background, into the shadows. but it is great choreography and they all were wonderful.
I was 14 when this was released, and I happened to have to get my first pair of glasses. My sister (both of us being Police & Sting fans) convinced me to get glasses that looked like the ones Sting wears in the video. Btw, it now strikes me how Prince inspired this song sounds.
One of the best conceptual dance videos ever made, trough his reflection on the mirror, Sting use the theory of the Dolppenganger to tell the story trough a surreal choreography, it shows what a dance video could be far away of the genre or the sound. Brilliant.
Always thought this song was supa hot back in the day, and it was and it still is. Great funky feel, good for dancing awesome at a party lol Luv the B/W Vid, choreography's hot, just a cool funky lil number thanks Sting! 💗
All my respect all other artists the choreography in this clip is absolutely unbelievable just perfect brilliant I'm using a double it's really him of course that was absolutely mind-blowing

To have you with me i would swim the seven seas
I need you as my guide and my light
My love is a flame that burns in your name
We'll be together, we'll be together tonight
We'll be together, yeah
We'll be together, yeah
We'll be together, yeah
I see you with me and all i want to be
Is dancing here with you in my arms
Forget the weather we should always be together
I'll always be a slave to your charms
To have you with me i would swim the seven seas
I need you as my guide in my life
My love is a flame that burns in your name
We'll be together, we'll be together tonight
We'll be together, yeah
We'll be together, yeah
We'll be together, yeah
Call me baby
You can call me anything you want
Call me baby, call me, just call me
I see you with me and baby makes three
I see me with you and all the things you do
Forget the weather we should always be together
I need you as my guide and my light
My love is the flame that burns in your name
We'll be together, we'll be together tonight.
Sting writes some of the best romantic lyrics, which is a big part of his huge appeal! He deeply understands romance on all its levels.
~~ enjoy!!
Do you know the female dancers names? Especially the one to the far left, gorgeous lady!!
OVI-Wan Kenobi Paula Abdul the choreographer and dancer in this video
@@mizannwells8381 I thought I'd recognized the choreography.
🔥 👠 🔥
I love the look he gives his wife @3:36
Gran album de Sting!! ESPECTACULAR MUSICA!!! gracias!!!!
As a kid growing up in the 80s, How did my Dad let me miss this?! He got me in2 Sting from those days! I wish my parents had been more in2 the music scene back then because so many of my favourite musicians are getting so much older and it feels like I missed out...but this video puts a smile on my face! Never seen Sting in this light b4 ☺😎😃💛
love his hair like this
rip sting's awesome hair
Amazing how Prince was influencing absolutely _everybody_ around that time. It was so pervasive that it went almost unnoticed.
This is more Stevie Wonder than Prince.
@@cafinario Interesting - from a songwriting perspective you're quite right! But Prince's sonic style (and Wonder influence) comes through too.
Sting was a jazz musician before a rock star- it was not Prince.
Awesome! I remember dancing like a maniac at a school dance to this song!
The dance moves at 1:40
It's absurd, I love it
So satisfying :D
Souvenir de l'année 87!! j'adore ❤️❤️ !Sting en solo quel plaisir à écouter !!❤️❤️ Merci Mr Sting !!🌟🌟
This is a briallant video and just demonstrates how fabulous he is. I wish it went longer. The man is a genius. I will never go one day without
A great song and a great video.

✌🏻🇦🇺🌏✌🏻
I just love the endearing look he gives to his wife in the car.
+Ashley Gwynn I hope some day a man will look at me like that :-)
Its so deep.
You mean after he betrayed the one he had to be with her?
I don't think they were married at the time of this video. He married her years later in a sort of royal old fashioned wedding. He also has a song called the secret marriage, which I think summed up his disdain for marriage.
@@MelodyPaxton Agreed......
Sting is an amazing person and soul as well as musician.
Muy gracioso y bonito el vídeo 🥰🥰
Did I mention I love the way Sting looks at Trudie at 4:00? :)
この曲大好きだがPVこんなだったのか…w
最後の方でセットゼムフリー入ってくるのも好き
cant agree more
This is how a man is supposed to feel about a women he loves .. if he doesn’t he not in love girls. He wants marriage and children .
He had WAY too much fun with this video, lol!
I loved the Tintin sweater Nice
...This was Sting's 'nod' to Prince's funky "Camille" sound, and it did WONDERS for Sting; the 1st single from "Nothing Like The Sun", it became a Top Ten hit on the AC, Pop and even DANCE charts, peaking at #7 Pop, December 1987..here's the charts....(4:44) (cont.)
10. Don't You Want Me (7" mix) - Jody Watley
9. The One I Love - R.E.M
8. So Emotional - Whitney Houston
7. ***We'll Be Together*** - Sting (3:58)
6. Shake Your Love - Debbie Gibson
5. Is This Love - Whitesnake
4. Should've Known Better - Richard Marx
3. Faith - George Michael
2. I've Had The Time Of My Life - Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes
1. Heaven Is A Place On Earth - Belinda Carlisle
Wow. I was 15 then and that top ten is a SERIOUS time capsule for the soul! Great post!!
It also became a Top 40 hit on the Billboard R&B charts, peaking at number 39
Dancer at 1:06 was highly coveted. He was in 2 of Janet Jackson's videos (Esacapade & What Have You Done for Me Lately?)
He was also in Pebbles' video, "Mercedes Boy."
I see many other commenters mention the hot blonde dancer! She is what I remember most from this video.
Mark, not all us think she is all that because she is typical. IMHO the best remembering most is STING period. and his lovely natural lookin' wife ...his soulmate. forever. love them! GREAT SONG period and video.
-
The very pretty blk or mixed blk or hispanic, with long hair style and short curly hair do, then the typical same blonde look chick, nothing special but STING BLONDE SELF IS GORGEOUSSSSSSS GREATEST DANCERS ever in a video period. without high heels on or tight sleazy stuff who can actually move.
i remember her from the video and there were certain parts where she slayed the choreography. but i honestly think i noticed her more because she was usually in the center and that haircut and her poses played really well on camera.
I'm 46 years old now. This song sounds new to me!
Fantástico Sting sua música embalou minha adolescência e embala minha vida obrigado
There is such a charming moment at 4:16...
Fazia muitos anos que eu tinha visto este video.Simplesmente adorei novamente.Sting é e sempre será meu cantor FAVORITO. Meu doce loirinho Ingles.
Saaaanng Vesta!! RIHP Vesta Williams!! 💘 🎶 🌹 🎹 💘 🎸 💘
If I am not mistaken, the Late Great Vesta Williams sang backing vocals on this song. The choreography in this video = chef's kiss.
Gran video de un Sting treinta ñero de los años 80.
This record broke into the Top 40 on the R&B Charts in late '87.
Fascinating!
I remember that...and it deserved to!
It had hit the charts back in 1988.
I only know the album version and I keep coming back to this just for the novelty of hearing that 14-second intro. :D
One of the best conceptual dance videos ever made, trough his reflection on the mirror, Sting use the theory of the Dolppenganger to tell the story trough a surreal choreography, it shows what a dance video could be far away of the genre or the sound. Brilliant.
80s MTV masterpiece. In the top 20 for sure if not in the top10.
Hi I Recommend a song Called called 'The bond Villain' by Robert Nix
This song just MOVES me... always has.
I'd pick introvert Sting over obnoxious Sting any day! :)
My most favorite video from Sting. So freaking hilarious! ❤
Love that choreographed "drunken" dance at 1:43.
I love Sting! I totally love that outfit he was wearing in that video!
Smiles, hi there 🌺 😊
I'm currently in the CVS googling this song because I swear they have the best music I'll be shopping slow! ❤️🎶🎵🎤
Always thought this song was supa hot back in the day, and it was
and it still is. Great funky feel, good for dancing awesome at a party lol
Luv the B/W Vid, choreography's hot, just a cool funky lil number thanks Sting! 💗
my favorite song by Sting!
All my respect all other artists the choreography in this clip is absolutely unbelievable just perfect brilliant I'm using a double it's really him of course that was absolutely mind-blowing
Another great artist
He gets better with time
I was 13. My first free summer, this song was my favorite. Along with burning down the house. My favorite year ever….
essa musica é sensacional, marcou a minha infancia e minha vida, obrigado Sting
