    Hi Maria!
I agree not Karen here at all, just spectacular. I’m used to this because she’s covered a lot of Olivia, Joni, The Beatles, David Gates, Heart, Righteous Brothers and for the most part doesn’t sound like them but can do justice to the spirit of the songs. She’s of another time, my youth. It was my pleasure to surprise and confuse you. This song can do that. Oh and yes look up the original, it’s a beautiful song, of course. It’s from the 1980 movie Xanadu. I got a couple more that will be more familiar in tone, so to speak. I’m off to live my life, fabulously.
    Joe

Really liked your comments at the beginning, wondering about how Tori would sound, being that she does Karen so well. When I've seen other reactors doing a Tori cover of a Carpenters song, I always mention my incredulity at Tori's eclecticism in being able to go from contralto (Karen) to soprano (Olivia). I think she effects a subtly different timbre in her voice when doing Olivia, perhaps a little breathier and lighter. Unlike a lot of singers who try to blow your head off with histrionics, screaming, and talent-show-listen-to-how-high-I-can-go techniques, she sings beautifully in such a way that I'm moved. Every time I hear her sing, I start to cry. Listening to her is not fatiguing; it's the opposite ... when she's done, I want to hear her sing more.

Tori has a timeless voice, and I think one that is right on the level with Karen, Olivia, and even Linda Ronstadt. To answer some questions from other viewers, she does have a couple of originals on her channel on RUclips and I am sure there will be more coming. You have to start with covers to get your name known, but I don't know what her long-term goals are. If she chooses to continue to do covers, she will have a fabulous career because not many do it better. She is definitely a talent to be reckoned with.

I have read the comments posted so far and I do agree that she has a magnificent voice with a lovely vibrato. She's a pleasure to listen to. I'm glad, though, to hear that she is moving into doing her own material. That's how you grow in your art. I wonder, also, if she has done any performing in public? I hope so, because that is another way to hone your craft.

She did appear at the Carpenter's 55th anniversay in Downey CA. and there is a vid on the net from about 3 monthes ago, of her appearing live at a nighclub in the Twin Cities area. Check out her RUclips page, it's full of very pleasant surprises.

Hi Maria. Tori has two songs that are new and I believe are both written for her. One is Something to Believe in and Christmas Again which might as well be on the Carpenters Christmas Album if they had otherwise been written back then. Enjoy if you get the chance.

@@jbs256Since Tori has written her own songs not fully produced by her yet - the break out song may come from there. Or someone in the chain will write the one that does it. It's odd when you see old bands like Three Dog Night or Even Richard Carpenter with an eye for picking the songs written by other musicians to break the glass ceiling. Nicolette singing Neal Young's 'It'll take a lot of love' and driving that into the top spot with her large orchestration she is known for serves as another example. Tori is different and more grass roots. She has no schtick or theatrical bit. She is simply pure talent with a wonderful buttery smokey contralto and one of the most superb resonant timbres to her voice that I have not heard in ages. I have a funny feeling she is perfect pitch as opposed to relative pitch just by her saying her voice is not that similar to Karen Carpenter. Many of us would never notice.

Ok. This is and isn't a criticism. On the praise side, shes a remarkable musical mimic. You cannot teach that. I suspect she has something close to perfect pitch. And absolute control of her vocal apparatus and technique . And thats all wonderful. If shes content to be known as a cover artist (and that is a thing, and I'm not casting shade in any way about it) I don't have any criticism. But I hope she does something thats hers (maybe she already did, I don't know). Theres a grace period for covers. Shes still quite young, and like I said one of the best I've heard. But personally I'd like to hear her doing her own composition. Shes close to perfect at covers. But I'd hate to see her painted into that box. She'll dominate the cover genre, thats a given. I'd just hate to see her want to break out of the box (she can, too much talent and skill not to) and not be taken seriously as an original artist. She IS an original artist. But people have a way of only wanting covers. Ask Liliac. Great reaction!

She has two original songs out now. Christmas Again and Something To Believe In. She is in process with her first self written song. She is also a multi-instrumentalist. Guitar (here for the first time in a full song), keyboards and drums. She says for drums “I can keep a beat” so no Mr. Guder solo just yet. She’s wicked on the other two. See Crazy On You (on “I”) and Now And Then on any service. Those and others are Short Videos.

As someone who has regularly followed Tori over the last nine or ten months, I have spent a fair amount of time perusing the comment sections of reactions like this and it's not that uncommon to come across a similar sentiment to what you are expressing. The difference however, between the vast majority of those comments and yours is that you have taken the time to convey a much more articulate and nuanced perspective in expressing the view that you have. Sometimes I think people don't realize (or care, for that matter) how a statement like "She's okay, but she really needs to do her own stuff" comes across, basically disregarding the effort and actual talent necessary to produce the video they have just viewed. So I just wanted to thank you for taking the extra time to convey those thoughts, incuding giving Tori credit for the beautiful gift she is sharing. And I would add one other selection to what @jbs256 has suggested above. While it may be considered a cover, Tori's version of Georgia on My Mind stands out because there's no one she can be accused of trying to sound like other than herself. Give it a listen. Cheers.

Dan Wesley, on his review channel, says 95 % Karen, but 90 % Olivia, when she does an Olivia cover. Since both of those artists have moved on to the bigger gig, there is a nice niche out there for Tori to fill. The fact that she has mad technial skills, and is making tons of contacts in the biz, gives her a future is blazing. However, I can safely say that while very pleasant, Dan neither looks nor sounds like the great Cliff Richard.
