      You did the correct decision, the white except for the engine which is gone is more complete than the black mate one, I hope you don*t have to put the wire harness or the computer from the white car in order to see if that engine is in tip top condition.

    good grief, that has to be the most shagged Smart engine i've ever seen. I've had a Smart Roadster adventure at some point, the one with the first generation 2 valve engines. I've seen some rough ones, people think they are buying a cheap and cheerful car, only to find out they have to deal with Mercedes maintenance, and just don't. Years down the line the thing ends up at a specialist or this happens.

    • @HangarGaraj
      @HangarGaraj  Год назад +4

      Exactly what you see all the time in the states with older German and Italian cars, the cars may have depreciated but the maintenance costs have not.

    Thank you very much for the video! One question, do you know where the coolant bleed valve/plug is on the CDI Diesel engine? I did a cooling flush on my 2009 ForTwo CDI but could not find the bleed point location that I know should be near the cylinder head to bleed the air out of the tubing. Now the car is overheating with a water not circulating and full of air pockets. I've searched all over the Internet and the all the information available is only for the gasoline engine, not the diesel. Thank you very much😊😊😊

    a blown air-gasket is the end result of prior bad & nasty problems..!. .exept the Smart Brabus (that had much better all around parts and over the top cooling system) ,Smart cars are known for terrible cooling problems due this enclosed engine ,it needs to be ventilated and fitted with a thicker radiator with a manual command for the cooling fan..,adding a secondary extractor fan and enlarging the air scoops is a good thing also..scooping fresh air from under the block to cool dow the transmission ,all the plastic covers under & sides transform the engine bay in an oven so cutting parts of them is good to avoid heat-sinking problems (starts to render all parts fragile in there including the head gasket..!!)..

    from the looks of it... im gonna have crazy work cut out for me.. trouble im having with my smart fortwo is a faulty coolant thermostat which is bolted next to the alternator and ive only seen sketchy footage of others referencing a thermostat swap without exact footage on how to access it, the intake manifold is directly on top of the thermostat and it looks like the entire engine needs to be lowered to even begin to loosen that whole area. this is gonna be a nightmare.

    • @HangarGaraj
      @HangarGaraj  Год назад +1

      Lowering the engine isn't as bad as it looks. Undo the two rear brake lines, the fuel line, and the four main bolts holding the rear subframe in and the whole thing will lower down. The worst part in my opinion is undoing the coolant hoses that run to the front of the car, but you should be able to lower it just enough to do the thermostat without removing the coolant hoses.

I am however, equally afraid that I might get scammed by a shop (it's happened to me a lot) and am willing to at least take a look for myself so I know what needs to be fixed
    If you have any tips as to how I could find a trustworthy shop or at least know what I'll need to know before any work gets done to it

    • @HangarGaraj
      @HangarGaraj  Год назад +2

      It's pretty easy, there's four main bolts to drop the whole rear subframe. Worst part by far is disconnecting the coolant lines that run to the front of the car, but if you're just doing plugs you can probably get away with leaving those connected. You'll probably want to undo the fuel line as well.

    • @emmettloveless5614

    I repair computers. I know that there are going to be an insane amount of dissimilar screws & bolts (dia, thread count, pitch, head type) in that thing. How in the world do you marry these back during reassembly when you take them out, willy-nilly? I make drawings and tape my tiny screws where they go-- wth do YOU do???

    • @HangarGaraj
      @HangarGaraj  Год назад +2

      With this particular engine I knew it was never going back together so I wasn't concerned, but usually I take a picture of each bolt next to where it came from so I can match them up later. Or if I don't have a phone on me I use masking tape or plastic bags and write down where they came from.
