- This was my second and boldest attempt to ring a church bell. No people were in or around the church except the people in my group.
Check out my first bell ringing attempt in Duntisbourne Abbots... another small Cotswolds village: • Anglophile Dreams Come...

🎵You can ring my bell, ring my bell🎵
If only there had been a sign saying that, perhaps the onlookers would not have been so scared! Ha ha
The spirit that has been guarding the church:no no no no no keep going keep going im watching
The bells, the bells "stop, stop, stop" said Quasi-Ian in panic 😱🔔😬🤣
He was funny, because he was desperately trying to get me to stop ringing the bell but at least he kept filming! 😂
Loved your expression of childlike naughty glee ringing that bell! And looks like you survived the experience -- unless you posted this from the great beyond 😁
Nobody cared that I rang that bell! Outside the church, there really aren’t any other people or buildings for quite some distance.
When I heard the ding I thought it was so fun!
The only one with courage in this video: a strong woman => Dara!! 👏👏👏
Brave and bold 💪
Dara "on the pull!" 🤣🤣
And everyone else on the run!
Ding dong! Nice job! 😂
Cheers!
You weren't chased by the vicar then.
The vicar was probably 5 miles away… no meetings in that building I think.
You are very naughty. Go and stand in the corner of the bell tower.😂
Trust me, I’m way too tall to fit in that wee bell tower!
So many bell references to use, I'm spoilt for choice, but I'd think I'll go with
"Run to The Hills, Run for Your Life"🐔🏃♂️
😂
Those bell pulls, they're just so enticing... :)
They are!!!
You and Chevy Chase would make a great a great combination on your "European Vacation!" Oh dear, not a replacement for Ian. Beverly DeAngelo would be there too. Just the slapstick comedy routines!
You are the Three Stooges and I'm Chevy Chase, LOL!
Please be careful doing this in churches, that was a single "down" bell so not gonna cause issues but if you do it on a bell thats "up" the rope could take you up with it as the bell will swing a full circle. The ropes shouldn't be hanging, let alone left unattended but you never know.
Yes I learned in Ledbury how hard a bell can pull your arm out of the socket! Check out the Ledbury video for my bell lesson...
Noted... don't dare a Dara 😬🤣
I’m daring Dara 😉
You're on a slippery slope Dara. Today unauthorised bell ringing, tomorrow armed bank robbery. LOL
No no no… you won’t see me anywhere near a gun 😉
Apparently the bell dates from the 14th/15th century
That’s amazing!
There can't be many places that you can do that! Looks like so much fun!! You looked so happy too! 😻😻
I WAS so happy!! Yes it is a unique situation there 💕
Very cool.
Haha Dara that's so good 😄but why for they run when you maybe a beautiful noise ? 😄💕
They were worried that someone would hear us ringing the bell and come and scold us! It was all nonsense, since there wasn’t anyone anywhere nearby 😂
Ooh, you drew quite a crowd!! Shame you scared the life out of them!! 😂😂🤣
The “crowd“ was the family of five who came to visit us. I took them to the church so that they could do some a cappella singing in a place with great acoustics. Also, I wanted to show them the fascinating historic interior of that church. As we were leaving I decided to try pulling the bell. We didn’t really plan to film the hysterical crowd, it just happened… hence the crazy camera work!
This singing will be part of the follow up video eventually 😉
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hi you can go on bell ringing experiences at churches across the UK.
Most of the time the ropes are not accessible to Paul. Also, I would feel bad about bell ringing at some random time if there were other people in the village nearby. I don’t want to alarm anyone!
However, we saw there was a bell ringing course an offer in Burford, and I am tempted to do that! 😂
@@MagentaOtterTravelsHi, I'm a bell ringer in the UK and we hold regular practice nights here and ring for services so everyone around the church is used to hearing the bells and it's a normal sound here. We mostly do change ringing with full circle bells so a bunch of ringers are required to ring the bells hence organised practice nights. It also takes a long time to learn how to do it
@@sgkingly8392 thanks for watching and commenting! I'm impressed you are a bell ringer. I later visited Ledbury... went up the tower to see their bells, and had a chance to try my hand at ringing on the "training bell". It was SO HARD!! I do appreciate that it is a very difficult thing to learn how to do properly. Here is the video if you'd like to check it out ruclips.net/video/gPKi6NKConw/видео.htmlsi=0JJsgptcCY5cW-sM
@@MagentaOtterTravels I find mini rings like that harder than proper tower bells because they are so light and you have to adapt your technique so you don't massively overpull and smash the stay. That and there isn't as much feeling through the rope (at least on the ones I have tried). The reason why there is a teacher with learners when learning to ring is because doing both strokes is incredibly difficult without practice and they are pretty much guaranteed to do something wrong so someone experienced is needed to stop something breaking or the rope flailing about the tower. Also if you did what you did there and not let go of the rope on tower bells you would have gone up to the ceiling because in the battle of human Vs bell the bell wins every time.
The hardest part of learning to ring for me was learning to ring rounds with other people after you learn the basic handling on your own. You can ring the bell then you have to ring with other people and it all just falls apart
aww come on, i wouldn't be scared while ringing that
It was great fun! My husband is too nervous ;-)
@@MagentaOtterTravels haha! I understand😆
@@MagentaOtterTravels haha! I understand😆
That’s me annoying my mom
Lol
Where is this church? It sounds like a german Zuckerhut(sugarloaf) bell from the 1200's.
It is a fabulous church across the road from Hailes Abbey in Gloucestershire. Watch this video to see wonderful places in the area. The church specifically is at 2:32. ruclips.net/video/GVEC6ngKU3Q/видео.html
Hahahahha :D You guys :D
We crazy!
@@MagentaOtterTravels and your husband is so scared 😱 how can you do that XD
Well rung!
Cheers, Liz! 🔔
How are people afraid of that
They were afraid that we would get in trouble! Pretty silly
why stop?
My husband was worried about alarming the villagers 😉
As a bellringer myself that is nothing like the bells I ring I ring harder ones
Absolutely. This is a tiny church with one tiny old bell. I'm impressed with serious campanologists like yourself!
You should not be ringing church bells without permission as there can be risks
Good point!
