This vault, for example, is BEAUTIFUL. Shannon’s focus was on FORM and it shows. Form is most definitely not the focus of the current CoP. I couldn’t figure out why gymnasts started throwing skills with every form break imaginable until I understood how awful the scoring is now. Whoever is in charge of the CoP has no real appreciation for gymnastics.

This is the era of gymnastics that I miss and imo was the the height of the sport. This was the time with artistic and interesting mounts, combos, skills and dismounted that were truly unique and beautiful, unlike now a days where all the athletes do the same few skills and it's focused more on the power and height they can get to be able to squeeze as many flips and twists into. All the routines look the same. There's no individuality in the sport anymore

This was the best of the best. The best vaulters of today - Rebeca and Simone - are just as good. They aren't able to flare out before landing, but that's because the vaults they are doing are much harder.

It's been many years since we've seen perfection in women's gymnastics like we see in this reel. That's why people who watch the Paris Olympics are amazed by performances that can never, ever compare to the perfection of this moment. Nowadays they build athletes with some talent, without being top level, just for marketing, just to make money, pure talent doesn't matter anymore. It's like reggaeton that's useless, it's not music, however, it works to sell.

@roddo1955 you're right. Gutsu got a 9.95 with sloppy leg form. If anyone else did that vault, score would have been lower. Miller flared the vault out. It was intentional. Also hard to get past the fact that Gutsu didn't even qualify for the AA final. She shouldn't have been there in the first place.
I feel she was denied the gold all around, since it was the last appearance of the unified team. The Russian gymnast hopped on landings and stepped back… she received higher scores on some routines. My friend who was a judge in their day will mention why and explain it to me all the time.
I find it incredible how, in moments through life, a person can achieve grace and beauty, caressing perfection. In that moment she was pure and God smiled upon her.

This was the Olympics that everyone had basically slated Kim Zmeskal to win 1992 Summer Olympics and out of she had a series of huge deductions. Out of nowhere Shannon Miller blew through and won All Around Silver only being beaten by Russia’s Tatiana Gutsu. I hope I’m spelling all of these names right. It’s been a long time, but I remember that. Kim Zmeskal and coach Bella Karolyi were favorited to win.

This was the Olympics that everyone had basically slated Kim Zmeskal to win 1992 Summer Olympics and out of she had a series of huge deductions. Out of nowhere Shannon Miller blew through and won All Around Silver only being beaten by Russia’s Tatiana Gutsu. I hope I’m spelling all of these names right. It’s been a long time, but I remember that. Kim Zmeskal and coach Bella Karolyi were favorited to win.
