Hey, I always respect the hell out of your taste. There are about 50 albums on here I haven't really listened to, and I'm going to systematically check them all. As feedback though, i think it would have been better to discuss a wide swathe of bands rather than pick deep cuts. For example, i think it would be better to exclude kreator, but include slipknot. I think there's a lot of potential to discuss some of the lesser genres. Perhaps you should plan a video where you just pick one album / band from each of the like 40 subgenres.
Great list, and I will add some albums for progressive and similar subgenres: Prog / avant-garde: Ihsahn - After, Ihsahn / Emperor is also mastermind of the black metal Prog: Devin Townsend - Terria, Opeth - Watershed, Frost* - Milliontown, The Contortionist - Language Sludge / extreme prog: Cult of Luna - Mariner, The Ocean - Phanerozoic I / II Softer prog / Pink Floyd style: Steven Wilson - Hand cannot erase Industrial: Nine inch nails - The fragile Extreme / industrial: Strapping young lad - Alien Also big respect you mentioned Agalloch - The Mantle + Alcest
Just made a playlist of all these albums for anyone interested: ruclips.net/p/PLugvOSDcrFA7cL-j1SOJqM9kXbzdevdjx Some albums were only available in the form of individual songs, keep that in mind.
I just discovered your channel, and I really like it! Especially the album rancings. What I love about metal is that it's like a whole universe. There's always something new to discover. You'll never reach the end. Depending on my mood, I can either listen to some Iron Maiden or Morbid Angel. In this video, you came up with some albums that I have maybe heard of but never really paid attention to. Put some of them on my playlist to check them out.
Skydancer from Dark Tranquillity actually came out before Heartwork so i dont think Heartwork is the first melodeath album... Some of my personal favorites throughout the years: At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul In Flames - The Jester Race Children Of Bodom - Follow The Reaper Death - Symolic Morbid Angel - Altars Of Madness Obituary - Cause Of Death Cannibal Corpse - Tomb Of The Mutilated Emperor - Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk Immortal - At The Heart Of Winter Dissection - Storm Of The Light's Bane Dawn - Slaughtersun Dimmu Borgir - Enthrone Darkness Triumphant Cradle Of Filth - Dusk And Her Embrace Candlemass - Nightfall Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses Agalloch - The Mantle Mastodon - Crack The Skye Between The Buried And Me - Colors Cynic - Traced In Air Gojira - The Way Of All Flesh Opeth - Still Life Edge Of Sanity - Crimson Enslaved - E Behemoth - The Satanist Vektor - Terminal Redux Rivers Of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name Ne Obliviscaris - Portal Of I Amorphis - Queen Of Time Orphaned Land - Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs Ensiferum - Iron Killswitch Engage - Alive Or Just Breathing The Agonist - Lullabies For The Dormant Mind Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys Iron Maiden - Seventh Son Of The Seventh Son Black Sabbath - Heaven And Hell Judas Priest - Stained Class Megadeth - Rust In Peace Slayer - Reign In Blood Anthrax - Among The Living Overkill - The Years Of Decay Dark Angel - Darkness Descends Sepultura - Beneath The Remains Slipknot - Slipknot Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine Pantera - Far Beyond Driven Nile - Annihilation Of The Wicked Cryptopsy - None So Vile Suffocation - Pierced From Within Dying Fetus - Wrong One To Fuck With
Prong is also a super underrated band, and I really think everybody should at least listen to either Cleansing or Rude Awakening by them. Cleansing I think most people would like since it's the best mix of all their genres: thrash, groove, and industrial. Also it has the absolute BANGER that is Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck. Rude Awakening is a lot more industrial focused, which won't be as big of a catch-all as Cleansing, but I prefer it more personally. The tone of the guitars is just SOOOOOO good. Without Hope and Mansruin are my favorites. Really though, I want more people to listen to Prong. They've influenced bands like Korn, NiN, Demon Hunter, Pantera, and White Zombie; yet barely anyone talks about them.
Great choice for Judas Priest. I'd have struggled choosing just one Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Motörhead album. I'm more of a Powerslave, Ride the Lightning, and Ace of Spades fan myself but I definitely love your picks. All are phenomenal.
I was two albums away from catching up on my music backlog and now I've added 20 more to that list. Something's gotta drown out the Christmas music I'm about to get bombarded with!
Nowhere to be found on this list: (in no particular order) Tiamat -the astral sleep (death metal at his best) kataklism - sorcery (amaizing) WASP - the crimson idol (best concept album) Theatre of tragedy - velvet darkness they fear (masterpiece) Sadness - ames de marbre (strange small band) Elend - lecons de tenebres (you guys NEEED to listen to first 2 albums from this band) Orphaned land - Sahara (gothic metal with oriental influence) Also: Paradise lost but not Icon and Candlemass but not Tales of creation?
Great picks Questy! Obviosly I'll could make some changes incorporating davin townsend's ocean machina, hollenthon's with villest of worms to dead, slipknot's iowa, haken's the mountain, zeal & ardor's devil is fine, ensiferum's debut and sepultura's chaos AD
Nice to see you put Be'lakor in there. They're fantastic. I would have probably included Death's "The Sound of Perseverance" in the Thrash category. It's their best album imo, and it's got one of the best instrumentals of all time on it, too.
Well, for Black Metal list I would put Emperor - Anthems...instead In the Nightside. For Doom metal definitely missing My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans and Saturnus - Paradise Belongs to You. But overall, good job for the list.
Something weird happened while watching this video. Since 1989 I always said that "Altars of Madness" is the best Death Metal Album of all time. But I just realized, when "Left Hand Path" appeared how much I still love this album, and that I should relisten to it again. Then "Altars of Madness" came and I realized that I don't want to listen to it anymore. This means that "Left hand Path" has passed the test of time, and is now after 31 one years officialy the best Death Metal album of all time! At least for me.
Great list! For most of these albums, I am 100% agree, they are amazing! ..Part of these, I still miss to listen to, or I am not agree with your choices.
Hey there I love your videos, just wanted to give you a quick heads up, the first concept album was Tommy by The Who (1969), and King Diamonds first solo album Fatal Portrait is a concept album as well ☠️
@@gui4816 they take all of the heaviest elements of black, death, grind, thrash, prog, and hardcore to make one of the most brutal albums I’ve ever heard (Monolith of Inhumanity)
Carcass; so underrated. Glad to see you got them here. Bill Steer rips on guitar. Check out his Firebird cds (different than Carcass but great nevertheless). Thanks skelly bones. Alice in Chains-Dirt is a great cd however so dark makes me want to do hard drugs again after listening to it.
Finally someone recognizing the genius of Cirith Ungol. But I do find the Doom Metal section sort of lacking, apart from Candlemass of course. Where are Pagan Altar, Saint Vitus, Pentagram or Asphyx? Plus, a top 100 album list without Crystal Logic by Manilla Road or Hellhammer's Triumph of Death is definitely incomplete! When it comes to Epic Doom there are quite a few absolutely fantastic newer bands, Atlantean Kodex obviously most prominent, but you could also check out Smoulder (Sarah from BangerTV is their vocalist)
Dang, I've only heard 21 of these so far... guess I have a lot of catching up to do, but that's nothing I didn't already know. Granted, I have heard some other albums by some of these bands or parts of the ones you listed such as with Darkthrone, Death, Killswitch Engage, and Nightwish.
Icon is a Gothic metal album. Surprised u didn't mention My Dying Bride in the doom category with The Angel And The Dark River. For Folk metal I'd pick any album by Elvaitie.
I’d also add: when the kite string pops, take as needed for pain, musat seremonia, chainsaw dismemberment, a gate throught the bloodstained mirrors, konkurs
Great list. Literally agree with each band's selection except Meshuggah. I'm just not a Nothing guy. Destroy, Erase, Improve created the genre IMO. GREAT JOB though.
When you were saying it’s the law that you have to like Bolt Thrower, I just had Saw is the Law playing in my head. 😂 I know it’s not Bolt Thrower, but you talking about Sodom made me think of it. Luv U Questie
Great video maybe the best you ever made but I would change one or two things. Instead of Bloody Kisses I would have put Turn Loose The Swans. Also I would make one extra. Maudlin Of The Well Bath/Leaving Your Body Map. Quest if you have never heard this check it out. You will love it!
Things I liked about this list: 1.- Mentioning that Ride the Lightning is better than MoP; 2.- Maiden's Powerslave is better han TNOTB, but "Children of the effin damned"; 3.- Annihilator gets some love (used to be my favorite band as teenager); 4.- Carcass' Heartworks was chosen. 5.- No fear of speaking of Mayhem and Burzum together ;). 6.- I freakin' love CATHEDRAL. 7.- Katatonia & Paradise lost get mentioned, as underrated doom bands. 8.- ALCEST is one of the best bands around. 9.- Nightwish get mentioned under the risk of making the list cheesy. 10.- Rust in Peace is indeed Flawless. Lastly, I don't know if these were mentioned because I was kind of distracted during the vid, but I'd just add Slayer's Reign in Blood and Still life by Opeth.
Blind Guardian - Imaginations from the other side Dream Theater - Images and words Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime Savatage- Streets Die Krupps - IV Paradise Now Strapping Young Lad - City Iron Maiden - The book of souls Judas Priest - Painkiller Heaven Shall Burn - Wanderer Grip Inc. - Power of inner strength
Excellent choice to go with Moonsorrow for folk metal! A good second choice would be Ensiferum, with solid other bands including Finntroll, Equilibrium, Russia's Arkona. Stuff like Alestorm and Korpiklaani never did it for me, they put the gimmick in front of the music and the result is a huge letdown.
I would’ve included the ‘crossover thrash’’ genre (85 - 90)...D.R.I.,Suicidal Tendencies,M.O.D.,Agnostic Front,Ludichrist,Excel,Corrosion of Conformity,Uncle Slam,Cro-mags,Attitude Adjustment,Crumbsuckers,The Accused,Cryptic Slaughter,Beowulf,Nuclear Assault,Stormtroopers of Death,etc.The early 80’s hardcore punk influence in general on thrash/death/ black metal is in concrete.
Only 100? We all know that's too little for how much good music is out there! Gotta do 1000 next 😈 I also gotta concur with another poster and say a top 10 NWOBHM albums would be a fantastic idea.
Great list!!! There are much better behemoth albums in my opinion though. You have fantastic taste for metal. My friends give me shit because I love all things metal. It’s easy to get caught up in one genre but there is greatness in every single genre .
Not so popular ,but great albums: Whiplash: Insult to Injury Vendetta: Brain Damage Voivod: Nothing Face Wargasm: Why Play Around Abstrakt Algebra: selftitled Acid Bath: When the Kite string Pops Coroner: No More Color Asphyx: Last One On Earth System of a Down: Steal This Album Big Dumb Face: Duke Lion Fights The Terror Buckethead: Enter The Chicken Comecon: Converging Conspiracies Dead Brain Cells: Universe Gwar: Scumdogs of the Universe Helstar: Baptized in Blood Therion: Vovin Jupiter Society: First Contact Last Warning Krux: KruxIII Omnitron: Masterpiece Rigor Mortis: seltitled
@@Questformetal I’m actually was shocked that for thrash you left off Vektor and Power Trip I would argue they were the 2 most important modern Thrash bands. Still really impressed with this list.

Intresting list, I was very happy and surprised to see i own most of the albums gues i need to get the rest =)
You have the best list so far for me my taste.
Yes. Finally a top list i can relate to. Good picks! Greetings from Germany!
These few albums of thrash I think blow up any of the more known bands:
1. Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence
2. Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death
3. Incubus - Serpent Temptation
4. Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
All great death thrash albums!!! I much prefer Beyond the Unknown to Serpent Temptation though. Epidemic of Violence is an all-time top 10 for me! 🤘
Slipknot instead of Kreator? You're taking the piss
Anyone that puts Slipknot over Kreator is a fraud. Stfu poser
Great list, and I will add some albums for progressive and similar subgenres:
Prog / avant-garde: Ihsahn - After, Ihsahn / Emperor is also mastermind of the black metal
Prog: Devin Townsend - Terria, Opeth - Watershed, Frost* - Milliontown, The Contortionist - Language
Sludge / extreme prog: Cult of Luna - Mariner, The Ocean - Phanerozoic I / II
Softer prog / Pink Floyd style: Steven Wilson - Hand cannot erase
Industrial: Nine inch nails - The fragile
Extreme / industrial: Strapping young lad - Alien
Also big respect you mentioned Agalloch - The Mantle + Alcest
I love lists like this, man! Thank you for this!
Another great video mate! Love this channel.
Just made a playlist of all these albums for anyone interested: ruclips.net/p/PLugvOSDcrFA7cL-j1SOJqM9kXbzdevdjx
Some albums were only available in the form of individual songs, keep that in mind.
Thank you, mate. ❤
Most of your fav albums are like mine fav. From the Black Metal check Mgla - "Exercises in futility", if you haven't.
Very very solid list, I have to say. Yeah. That's great, man !

At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul

Terminal Redux is my favorite of all time
Interesting that you chose Portal of I over Citadel for Ne Obliviscaris
My fav metal album ever is Somewhere in time , should be there.
Prove you wrong!
jokes on you, I AM racist! 🫵😆
Nowhere to be found on this list: (in no particular order)
Tiamat -the astral sleep (death metal at his best)
kataklism - sorcery (amaizing)
WASP - the crimson idol (best concept album)
Theatre of tragedy - velvet darkness they fear (masterpiece)
Sadness - ames de marbre (strange small band)
Elend - lecons de tenebres (you guys NEEED to listen to first 2 albums from this band)
Orphaned land - Sahara (gothic metal with oriental influence)
Also: Paradise lost but not Icon and Candlemass but not Tales of creation?
Great picks Questy! Obviosly I'll could make some changes incorporating davin townsend's ocean machina, hollenthon's with villest of worms to dead, slipknot's iowa, haken's the mountain, zeal & ardor's devil is fine, ensiferum's debut and sepultura's chaos AD
Nice to see you put Be'lakor in there. They're fantastic. I would have probably included Death's "The Sound of Perseverance" in the Thrash category. It's their best album imo, and it's got one of the best instrumentals of all time on it, too.
Wouldn’t really call it thrash, more like prog.
Awesome video. Just started listening to Candlemass and Bolt Thrower, both have some great stuff 👍
Well, for Black Metal list I would put Emperor - Anthems...instead In the Nightside. For Doom metal definitely missing My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans and Saturnus - Paradise Belongs to You. But overall, good job for the list.
Great list Questy, a few you missed - Summoning - Stronghold, Drudkh - AA/Blood, Taake - Nattestid/Doedskvad, Windir. How can you miss em 😢
Yes to the leviathan pick. Wrest is a phenomenal songwriter and drummer
I know that you have mentioned the Ulver album Bergtatt, but fuck I think it's so underrated. For me the best album of all time, it's just perfect
its not, everyone knows bergtatt.
At least for me.
will change...
Great list! For most of these albums, I am 100% agree, they are amazing! ..Part of these, I still miss to listen to, or I am not agree with your choices.
Hey there I love your videos, just wanted to give you a quick heads up, the first concept album was Tommy by The Who (1969), and King Diamonds first solo album Fatal Portrait is a concept album as well ☠️
The Nevermore / Sanctuary legacy can never be denied
Slowly introducing myself to metal. I’d it strange I went from the gateway band (Metallica) straight into Candlemas? (both are fucking amazing)
A couple good Death Metal Albums are Necrophagist - Epitaph and Disincarnate - Dreams of the Carrion Kind.
Great list! I almost agree 100% with every pick.
Missed Cattle Decap here, nice list tho
I think their style of genre blurring is not an entry point for anything
@@gui4816 they take all of the heaviest elements of black, death, grind, thrash, prog, and hardcore to make one of the most brutal albums I’ve ever heard (Monolith of Inhumanity)
Wow I’m watching right now on RUclips. I’m repeating this again
Thank you for this video
Tomb of the Mutilated/ None So Vile is a classic for sure
Carcass; so underrated. Glad to see you got them here.
Bill Steer rips on guitar. Check out his Firebird cds (different than Carcass but great nevertheless).
Thanks skelly bones.
Alice in Chains-Dirt is a great cd however so dark makes me want to do hard drugs again after listening to it.
Carcass is not underrated at all
Finally someone recognizing the genius of Cirith Ungol.
Nwobhm deserves its own top 10 away from the top well known bands .
Enjoyable list sir, but Eyehategod’s Dopesick should have been there. And Nuclear Assault Game Over.
Nice video fella ily
Icon is a Gothic metal album. Surprised u didn't mention My Dying Bride in the doom category with The Angel And The Dark River. For Folk metal I'd pick any album by Elvaitie.
good list. i would add somewhere in power metal: Riot, thundersteel. ABSOLUTE BANGER!
Primal Fear….
My Dying Bride - Turn Loose The Swans
I thought this was a banker
Thanks Skelly Bones
Great video maybe the best you ever made but I would change one or two things. Instead of Bloody Kisses I would have put Turn Loose The Swans. Also I would make one extra. Maudlin Of The Well Bath/Leaving Your Body Map. Quest if you have never heard this check it out. You will love it!
Also your prog list is basically my upcoming prog for dummies video 😂🤦🏻
Sick ass list, great taste
Things I liked about this list:
1.- Mentioning that Ride the Lightning is better than MoP;
2.- Maiden's Powerslave is better han TNOTB, but "Children of the effin damned";
3.- Annihilator gets some love (used to be my favorite band as teenager);
4.- Carcass' Heartworks was chosen.
Anthrax...."Among the Liviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnngggg!"
Blind Guardian - Imaginations from the other side
Dream Theater - Images and words
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
Savatage- Streets
Die Krupps - IV Paradise Now
Strapping Young Lad - City
Iron Maiden - The book of souls
Judas Priest - Painkiller
Heaven Shall Burn - Wanderer
Grip Inc.
Metal hit it's peak with the big 4 (Tom, Dave, Jeff and Kerry).
Looks like 100 more albums for me, except those that I already know
I would’ve included the ‘crossover thrash’’ genre (85 - 90)...D.R.I.,Suicidal Tendencies,M.O.D.,Agnostic Front,Ludichrist,Excel,Corrosion of Conformity,Uncle Slam,Cro-mags,Attitude Adjustment,Crumbsuckers,The Accused,Cryptic Slaughter,Beowulf,Nuclear Assault,Stormtroopers of Death,etc.The early 80’s hardcore punk influence in general on thrash/death/ black metal is in concrete.
Only 100? We all know that's too little for how much good music is out there! Gotta do 1000 next 😈
I also gotta concur with another poster and say a top 10 NWOBHM albums would be a fantastic idea.
Great list!!!
There are much better behemoth albums in my opinion though.
You have fantastic taste for metal. My friends give me shit because I love all things metal. It’s easy to get caught up in one genre but there is greatness in every single genre .
Fates Warning "Awaken the Guardian" This is the most underrated album. "NO EXIT" From Fates Warning is a close second.
Great and Amazing Bands!WINDIR,HELLOWEEN, MOONSORROW!?
Did I miss Blut Aus Nord and Deathspell Omega? Maybe some Cattle Decap. Celtic Frost's Into the Pandemonium?
I'm really struggling to justify leaving Epica off the symphonic metal list. They've pretty much defined the genre in the 2010s
Not so popular ,but great albums:
Whiplash: Insult to Injury
Vendetta: Brain Damage
Voivod: Nothing Face
Wargasm: Why Play Around
Abstrakt Algebra: selftitled
Acid Bath: When the Kite string Pops
Coroner: No More Color
Asphyx: Last One On Earth
System of a Down: Steal This Album
Big Dumb Face: Duke Lion Fights The Terror
Buckethead: Enter The Chicken
Comecon: Converging Conspiracies
Dead Brain Cells: Universe
Gwar: Scumdogs of the Universe
Helstar: Baptized in Blood
Therion: Vovin
Jupiter Society: First Contact Last Warning
Krux: KruxIII
Omnitron: Masterpiece
Rigor Mortis: seltitled
Hey Quest for metal, check out the band Desire, it has only 2 albums, give me some feedback someday.
So many albums I could think of. I am surprised you could pick 100 DAMN.
Be interesting to know what you would pick 🍺
@@Questformetal I’m actually was shocked that for thrash you left off Vektor and Power Trip I would argue they were the 2 most important modern Thrash bands. Still really impressed with this list.
Dw in my personal top 20 thrash vid they will be given love 😉
I love your name
Exactly. Terminal Redux by Vektor blows almost everything on this list into space.
Ones I've listened to: Black Sabbath, by Black Sabbath, The Number of the Beast, by Iron Maiden, Holy Diver, by Dio, Master of Puppets, by Metallica, Rust in Peace (just got the damn non-remastered album), by Megadeth, The Legacy (I just bought it, and have listened to some of it, but not all of it, all, yet), by Testament, Reign in Blood, by Slayer, Leprosy, by Death, Realm of Chaos, by Bolt Thrower, Altars of Madness, by Morbid Angel, Twilight of the Thunder God, by Amon Amarth, Under the Sign of the Black Mark, by Bathory, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanis, by Mayhem, Filosofem, by Burzum, A Blaze in the Northern Sky, by DarkThrone, Storm of the Light's Bane, by Dissection, In the Nightside Eclipse, by Emperor, At the Heart of Winter, by Immortal, Nemesis Divina, by Satyricon, Nightfall in Middle Earth, by Blind Guardian, Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part I, by Helloween, The Satanist, by Behemoth, Images and Words, by Dream Theater, Lateralus, by Tool, Crack the Skye, by Mastodon, Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, by Candlemass (I've listened to at least some of one of their albums, and I think this one is it), Vulgar Display of Power, by Pantera, Korn, by Korn, Toxicity, by System of a Down.
Still a Noob.
Malevolent Creation - Retribution album
Everybody needs to listen to Brotherhood of the Snake by Testament. That album is up there with anything the big 4 has written
