      Wow! I truly mean it when I say that you’re probably the most underrated game dev channel out there. You have the quality videos of Game Maker’s Toolkit, and your channel will definitely blow up soon. As a game developer who’s also learning how to make better games, would you mind getting in touch? I would love to learn a little about how you make games, and I think we could learn a lot about game development together.

    I love how you achieved the visuals. How exactly do you apply the grainy look and pixel effect to your camera? I'm interested in that effect

    • @DawnosaurDev
      @DawnosaurDev  2 года назад +1

      Thank you! The grainy effect is done using Unity's Post Processing: film grain (set to a relatively small size and black & white). Then, the pixel effect is done using the Pixel Camera, another Unity package

    • @DawnosaurDev
      @DawnosaurDev  2 года назад +1

      Thanks a lot! Yes, not sure when but I'll 100% be making some more stuff in the future (even if not for a little while).
      Hmm, for some advice. I'd say that music can be really important for your video's flow & pacing. Oh and also, maybe focusing on one interesting part of your game for each devlog, which helps the video follow a core theme. That's probably what I'll do in future :D Hope that's useful!

  • @evantindle1564
    @evantindle1564 Год назад +1

    Any chance you’ll do a tutorial for this? I’d like to know how you achieved the perspective effect and what filters used for the pixelation, noice, chromatic aberration, etc.

    • @DawnosaurDev
      @DawnosaurDev  Год назад +1

      Probably not a full tutorial, but might be something I cover in more detail in my newsletter or something similar.
      But for now, here's the gist of how it works!
      1. All the walls have 2D colliders but instead of a sprite have 3D meshes.
      2. When you use a perspective camera these boxes will look 3D.
      3. The trick that makes them look almost like shadows/line of sight masks is that they are extremely tall.
      4. With a very high Z scale, they stretch past the camera and block out part of your vision
      5. Through trial and error I found these looked like a shadow effect.
      This by no means is a solid solution. But... for a game jam it worked really well :D
      For the post processing, I just kept messing with the affects until it looked cool. Keeping to a low colour scheme helped and some Screen Distortion made the chromatic aberration more noticeable. Oh, and all the artwork was behind the scenes Vector-based.
      Hope that gives you a rough idea to work off of!

    Hi im trying to learn game dev and have some basic knowledge about platform game. Im trying to make a game about a parasite possessing people similar to this with the grappling effect, upon grappling it would attach itself to the enemy and would be able to control them and use them to attack. How would the logic work? I've thought about parenting the object once it collides with something but idk how to make them move is there a way to move movement scripts of one object to another upon contact?

    • @iannecarl5956
      @iannecarl5956 2 года назад +1

      I have searched about stuff that might help but nothing comes up

    • @DawnosaurDev
      @DawnosaurDev  2 года назад +1

      Hmm that's really interesting. So the way I would try solving this is have a script on all the enemies that allows you to control them if the play is attached (likely a boolean) then you could here deactivate the player's movement (entering some kind of attached state) locking their position to enemies (so that it moves along with them) and adding an offset so it looks like its stuck to them as you want.
      This sounds truely like a really intrigueing idea that ( at least from how im pictuering it in my head) seems like a great mix of ape out and mario odyseey. Good luck with it!
