Farmer's Call for Help ▪︎ Saving the Lambs

- Опубликовано: 2 окт 2024
- With lambing season just around the corner I received a call from some farmers requesting help reducing the fox numbers.
After an impressive result on a property in that area a few weeks earlier, 4 of the neighbouring farmers wanted to engage my services to cull foxes and an ever growing rabbit population prior to lambs hitting the ground.
Word of mouth and reputation is everything, especially in rural communities.
Doing the right thing, being professional and getting results generally leads to more work and for you recreational hunters, more access.
After packing and saying my goodbye's to the wife and kids I headed off for another 3 nights of fox control.
First night was spent on a property I had been to before and yeilded a dozen foxes and handful of hares. After a bit of sleep that morning it was over to meet the new clients and familiarise myself with their properties before the sun went down.
The following 2 nights adding another 38 foxes and 50 odd rabbits to the tally.
All in all it was a very successful trip with 5 very happy farmers and a safer environment for lambing season.
The gear I'm running this trip is a Sako 85 Hunter chambered in. 223 with the Pulsar Thermion2 Pro XP50 LRF and 55gr Adi world class ammo.
My air rifle is an FX Impact M3 600mm barrel in .22cal topped with the Infiray RS75 thermal scope which was on loan to me for a couple of weeks shooting Cometa 18.13gr pellets @ 890fps.
Wish I was their to help, but Australia is one heck of a long canoe ride from Canada! Well done sir!!
Just a quick paddle across the the pond. 😅
Thanks mate. 👊
Take a bigger Canoe. lol
Really impressed with these air rifles & how effective they are. Well done!👏👏👏
They've come a long way. Extremely accurate and a pleasure to shoot 👌
Cracking shooting there. Only an Aussie would stand a fox by shouting "G'day"
Exactly why I do it mate. 😉
You could try OI MATE.😉
I'm a bit partial to G'day but oi gets a run sometimes. 😅
I love the way you call and shoot !
Thanks buddy. 👊
a legend, thanks for the late night content in the US!
Thankyou mate. Kinda cool knowing it's already getting viewed on the other side of the world. 👊
Awesome video few down there funny the don't say hello back hahahah
I think I'd have a heart attack if one did. 😅
Gee, as a kid in the Riverina I can remember dad and his mates going out to farms for a week shooting foxes and rabbits. It was the mid/late 50's and there were two utes, an Austin A40 and a Ford. The A40 was piled high with foxes, under a canvas tarp, the Ford had so many rabbits, that they had to bag them so as not to leave dead rabbits all over the Sturt Highway. The local Tannery took the hides and the blokes shared the meat out with all the neighbours. Not sure what happened to the foxes but they got money for every one from some government organisation. Not sure how many trips they went on but it all stopped early in the 60's. Your fox hunts brought back memories of dad and his mates calling to foxes to stop and I'd laugh every time, then cop a clout around the ears to shut up.
Hahaha.
That's awesome mate.
It's a shame we get bugger all for the foxes in NSW
You have to appreciate the G'day to get their attention and of course the one 'rooting' 'going out with a bang'. Love it.
Haha.
Thanks mate 👊
No cobber. Thank you for taking us with you and the good you are doing. Keepem comming mate.🤠
Cheers legend. Will do. 👊
Every time I hear gid day I chuckle to myself.
Lol. Works a treat 😉
Good, clean and humane pest control there, mate. A pleasure to watch a professional at his work, nice one.
Really appreciate that David 👊
they eat mouse also. now they gonna have mouse invation.
We already do.
@@hdj81Vlimited😂😂😂😂 No doubt RJM will sort that too. 🤙🏽
They're on my list mate. 😅
Greetings from Christchurch, New Zealand. Most enjoyable mate. I did laugh at that Bunny having a crack at dry humping the dead one lol. Cheers.
Thankyou mate. Dirty little bugger he was
Brilliant stuff yet again keep up the good work 👏👏👏👏
Will do mate.
Thankyou 👊
I used to hunt ferals on my farms, but over the years I just found myself unable to kill anything anymore. I can't explain why, and I still have all my weapons and enjoy target shooting. I have nothing but respect for other shooters for doing what you do.
Thankyou sir. Appreciate the support.
It's not for everyone mate. 👊
I suppose if you lose your entire flock to foxes, one might reconsider. This many foxes in one night... wowzers! Amazing there's any lambs left ... they're like a plague of locusts.
Absolutely
I used to love fishing. Then I got a job where I did a lot of scuba diving and now I just don’t like fishing, as a sport, anymore. I’m not a big fan eating them either so there’s that too. I do appreciate this hunting though. It’s a good thing.
Thanks mate 👊
Brings back memories from years ago Here in the UK well done mate Pete
Thanks Pete. Appreciate the support 👊
Great shooting once again. I'm sure the farmers were pleased, and hope to see more of your videos soon. Cheers from Texas.
Thanks David. Already booked in fir another visit.
No rest for the wicked as they say. 👌
Hello from Ireland Real Great videos Thanks Brother.
Much appreciated mate. Thankyou 👍
if im out exploring the wilderness at night and suddenly i hear a bloke call out from the distance "g'day!"... IM RUNNING LIKE F$#k !! lol
Haha. You'll be fine mate 👍
My exact same thoughts.
🤣😉
Nice shooting sir.
Thanks Joe 👊
Enjoying it as ever from the UK.Especially being stuck indoors( total purgatory) after a recent heart attack. So many thanks for the therapy. Please keep them coming and more piss taking of Hollywood if possible lol
Hahaha.
Hope you recover and can get outdoors again soon mate. 👌
Best wishes for a full recovery neil
Excellent shooting mate, happy farmers.
Thankyou 👊
Outstanding shooting, highly entertaining all whilst cleansing the area of stinking foxes etc. The local wildlife and farm stock will now get some welcome breathing space… Brilliant 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it mate. 👊
That bunny was doing a victory dance
Only until he wore a pellet
Absolutely outstanding marksmanship and very professional. Really enjoyed your videos.
Thanks Tim. Much appreciated mate 👍
Magnificent mate you’re a true environmentalist
Thanks champion 👊
Your fire control is flawless, not even a hint of movement when pulling the trigger. With marksmanship there's always the temptation to be restless and jerk the weapon when firing.
I have my moments mate like all of us. I appreciate the compliment though. Thankyou 👊
The cross hair shaking with the car running had me wondering..but...shot was made!
Exhale and gently squeeze my friend! Nice shooting.
Thanks mate 👌
Great shooting!
Hello from North Carolina, 🇺🇸
❤🙏👍🏻
🫡
G'day mate.
I still find it very surreal hearing that someone from the other side of the world is watching my one of my videos.
Thanks buddy
Sensational shooting, very very efficient, the thermal is certainly a game changer when it comes to lambing season. We're just about to begin the winter season over here in the west and this will be my first year with a thermal, very much looking forward to it after watching your videos. Do you whistle them up at all or just set up and wait mostly? Also can't believe you found Jeffrey Dahmer's pet rabbit all the way over here in Oz 😂
Really depends on the property and how many mobs are lambing. Overwatch works well on the smaller places. They don't respond all that well to a whistle this time of year.
G'day mate 🎯😎👍🏻
Hey champion 👊
I know I'm new to your channel, but the "G'Day.!" to stop them is epic.! Thanks for the sweet vids mate.!
Haha.
Gets em every time.
Well, almost 👌
Welcome to the channel mate
Great vid. You'll never run out of targets. 👍
I tend to agree mate. Not in my lifetime anyway 👌
Had these been emu's this man wouldn't have returned....
Great work Rod 👍👍
Thankyou Greg. 👊
KFC, nice touch of humour. Making Hollywood jelous of not being there... man, quite alot for a moon lit night. around here there's lots of movement of young, last years kits. breeding season is on it's way. i love stalking foxes calling out during mating season, as you would know, unlikely to respond to calls. great video, nice shots.
Cheers mate.
Always tough this time of the year when they're reluctant to come to the whistle or a caller.
Love the challenge though.
Great shooting. Love to see those rabbits pop in the air!
Cheers mate 👊
Ruddy hell that's a whole lot of foxes. Was the full total 27+ 38 = 65? Unbelievable. Can't imagine the type of damage they could have caused come lambing season and the local wildlife. Great work - has the season been good for them in this area or something?
50 all up this trip mate.
Been a fantastic season with bumper crops and lots of critters and insects to feed them up.
Another excellent video Rodney. Your marksmanship is top notch. Great to see you punching big holes in not just the pests, but their overall numbers as well. You are an inspiration to the res of us. Thanks for sharing your efforts with the rest of us.
You're very welcome mate. Thanks for watching 👊
Jesus Rodney, you must be the only fella to get a KFC in the backwoods. And the added entertainment off rabbits.
I certainly am a lucky man. 😅
Nice..oportunity❤
Thankyou 👊
Me
I love the way he says "G'Day" to make them stop and look up. The day turned out to be not so good for them 😂
Thanks mate.
It works a treat. 👍
Great work as always. 👍👊👊
Thanks Terry 👍
Yeah, all other comments cover it but for me it's the pure marksmanship. Also, the environment thanks you.
Thankyou Michael.
It's always nice to get positive feedback mate.
Cheers 👊
Great work mate.
Thanks 👍
The huge 'leaping' convulsions on headshot rabbit and hares is spinal shock. I've had it happen a few times to me. They've been thrashing around so much I've run over to finish then off thinking I've only winged them, but they've been entirely decapaitated by the 17hmr round. It causes a flood of electrical impulses. Really freaked me out the first few times! .
Common occurrence with headshots, still make me scratch my head every time though. 👍
When I was much younger I shot a lot. One day I thought I'd done a perfect head shot at 150 MTRS on a rabbit. But he jumped and did flip flops for about 10 seconds. When I got to it. It's top half of the head was gone as was the brain just an empty scull. I did do a perfect head shot 😀 the little bugger did a death dance.
Yeah, they can be quite acrobatic after a brain shot.
@@RJMHuntingAustralia I used to use a M A NAUGHTON. made in Warrendite Vic .22 magnum floating barrel thumbhole stock bolt action. With a scope that I can't remember??? So accurate never missed. I started shooting at 11 and we would tap a plaster board clout into a tree so it stayed there then go back 50 MTRS and shoot the clout all the way in. We ate the bunnies so it had to be head shot only. I miss shooting ☹️ but watching you shoot brings back great memories.thankyou.
Sounds like a great little setup Bob.
Glad ur enjoying the videos mate 👍
The way he greets them before killing them. Total savage
Just being polite mate 😉
if I'm ever walking in NSW at night and I hear a G'day, I'm gonna shit me pants.
🤣🤣🤣 you'll be right mate.
Nice, awesome shooting Rod.👌
Thanks for that David. 👊
awesome job mate thanks for doing that
My pleasure mate 👍
Wow. Just highlights what a big problem those foxes are down under. Nice shooting
Definitely got our work cut out for us.

That’s a lot of rabbit stew that’s for sure. 😂
Yeah. It was good to get a few 👌
If this is your paid employment I'm a very jealous chap Great videos Thanks for taking us along All the best from uk 🇬🇧
I'm actually a full time firefighter and run the shooting business on the side mate.
A true environmentalist protecting the Australian natural environment, well done and thanks mate.

Sheep arent australias natural enviroment though they were introduced like foxes were, we just choose to eat one though 😋
Just found your channel. I love the content. You have a new subscribers.

7:33 - you are one sick Aussie!
Haha. I have absolutely no idea what ur talking about. 🤣
Australia Day just wouldn't be the same without Lamb, good job.
Haha. Oh the irony. 😅
my grandfather taught me to hunt foxes on horseback, with dogs for support. You shoot standing up in your stirrups and using a sight is dishonorable. Apparently, hunters on other continents are so different!
Well this isn't hunting, it is purely pest control and results are important. Good gear is a must.
First of all I’m impressed with your commitment to the work!
I grew up on a cattle operation and farm in the Rocky Mountains and I hunted every species of birds, small game, varmints, and big game.
But I was born with a weak stomach and didn’t handle the messy job very well after the game was down. I did it but I hated it.
Then I had an NDE and following that experience I couldn’t hunt anymore. My favorite pastime was over.
I continued target shooting and raised my boys shooting every type of rifle and handgun. But I couldn’t hunt at all. I miss those experiences and I wish you the very best.
Feral animals are a huge problem in many places. You do yourself proud with your professionalism in every respect. Well done!!!
Sorry to hear you're unable to hunt anymore Jeff.
It's definitely a lifestyle I am committed to.
Appreciate the kind words mate. 👊
It's important to take some time to balance nature, but always with respect.
Most definitely 👌
Congrats on 20k and hope you keep doing what you do as it is quite the joy to watch.
Thanks mate. That's the plan
They are popping like pop corn lol. great job mate . What rifle are you using? And what range?
Running my Sako 85 Hunter chambered in. 223 with 55gr Adi World Class ammunition. Average shot was around 180 - 200m on this trip
Great video. Bean hunting with a DJI matrice 30 with thermal. Best drone ever finding animals at night
Do you find you can get close enough to identify without spooking them?
The drone has a incredible zoom. There's plenty of info on utube.
Thanks
Pest control like this is critical to ensuring the food people rely on to be on the shelves at the grocery store. So before you start complaining about killing the poor foxes, spend a week without eating. Because if they are not controlled, that will the reality you're asking for.
Spot on Derek. Uphill battle trying to educate some people mate. 🤦♂️
Best wishes, all the way from "Pom" land. Fresh air, lovely moonlight and farmers happy to enlist your help. You know how to live!
Cheers mate. Good times for sure. 👌
Wow excellent shooting. What is the make and model of the gun you are using. and also what sites you use
It's a Sako .223 with a Pulsar Thermion2 Pro XP50 LRF thermal scope mate
Love your work. Great haul. Well deserved KFC.
Absolutely.
Thanks mate 😉
"G'day" cracked me up. Might I ask your accuracy, do you hit 100% of shots fired?
I'm pretty good at what I do but no, not 100% mate. I have misses occasionally just like everyone else mate.
Its that time of the year, cold nights, lambing ewes and pest control....nice work!!
Cheers buddy. Certainly is
Awesome content mate as usual. That air rifle looks like a lot of fun ..shit it does the job..
I absolutely love it Damian. Almost as much as my 223. 🤔
6:48 - How do they jump around after that? Nothing left to tell them to stop jumping.🤔
Very true. Freaky to watch though. 🤦♂️
Good on ya Rod 💪 Terrific effort! Very enjoyable video.
Thanks Josh.
Finding the time for video editing is the biggest challenge as I'm sure you'd know. 👌
@@RJMHuntingAustralia absolutely mate. I wish there was a good enough program we could just unload our footage into and it would automatically put it all together and a good video would come out the other end😂 although as time consuming as it is, it’s satisfying to bolt it all together and get a bit creative and have a good quality video to share. I suppose that why we do it. 💪 Keep up the good work!
Spot on mate. Pain in the arse but I love it.
We just need a film crew. 😅
@@RJMHuntingAustralia haha yes
Absolutely enjoyed your shooting, l love my fishing but knowing the good work you're doing, it's so addictive watching, of course l subscribed, happy hunting.
Much appreciated Stuart.
Thanks mate. 👊
How many Ft lbs is the FX putting out?
Running at 32 ft lbs John
@@RJMHuntingAustralia What is the biggest game you can take with that 32 ft lbs?
Hares and rabbits mate
@@RJMHuntingAustralia Will it not take a fox?
Can do. Shot placement has to be spot on though 👌
I used to hunt cayotes in Colorado when I was at the Univ of Colorado. $50 a head to the Dept of Natural Resources. Helped to pay my way through engineering school
That's a great incentive mate.
Shame they don't do that where I live for foxes, feral cats and wild dogs. 🤷♂️
Great stuff as usual mate. Good to see you back out there
Been super busy with the shooting mate. Hardest part is finding the time to do the video editing 😫
Was Great to meet you at the expo on the Sunday, thanks for all your info on the thermal scopes and monoculars 👍🏻
My pleasure mate. Hope you got something out of it. Was crazy busy. 👊
Which expo? Cheers
@@oldman_eleven deer expo
I hear you but you could make more money if you sell the fox fur. I used to have a had made of fox fur. It was nice and warm
There is NO market for fox fur in Australia anymore mate. 😢
Doing similar here. It's that time of year. Love your vids, but I for one would love you to show the ranges you are knocking these ferals off at
I try to range the longer ones on screen so you guys can see. Mainly the ones out past 200m
Hi love your work I live in south Australia if I can help anyone with fox or rabbits cats etc I don’t mind a feed of pigeons neither
Cheers mate. Appreciate the offer. 👊
Bloody great work! Love watching your videos! Cheers

Thanks for that Chris 👊
Love this footage. What percentage of shots are kills approx.
100% this trip Scott. A couple of runners made it 20m or so.
What damage do the hares do?

Where I work we have 5000 breeding ewes. I use my .223 but love using my 1886 marzin henry and enfeild. 303 fun hard hitting rifles. For rabbits I use a bsa modle 15 sports single shot rifle.
Nice. The old 303 kicks like a mule. 👌
That amount of sheep must keep you very busy especially around lambing season.
@@RJMHuntingAustralia I brought the .303 for downd cattle 1 steer broke its hip . We ate free beef for years. Broken legs . Cripples. We have a 400+ head cattle feedlot . Had to teach myself how to butcher beast's.
Handy talent to have mate.
What type of rifle were you using on the foxes and what distance was it
Sako .223 out to 350m mate 👍
I'm not anti blood sport .. but the only thing I shoot now is rats 🐀 . There's a time in your life when you respect wildlife .. also the destruction of felling majestic trees 😢
Misfiring signals from a smashed brain can make a dead animal do strange things. Great marksmanship and awesome video. No feral pigs in your area? Here they kill more lambs than the foxes do.
Thanks champion 👊
Nah, none near me which is disappointing because I love pig shooting. Foxes everywhere down here near Sydney
Farmer should buy a couple of Anatolian Shepherd dogs instead of killing wild life.
Foxes aren't native so called wildlife in Australia. They are a declared invasive pests and landholders are required by law to control them.
Great shooting again. Are you knocking those foxes down with an air rifle? I’ve been wanting to get a high powered air rifle for a while now but I’m pretty sure there quite expensive for a reasonable good one. Where are you shooting? Obviously the foxes aren’t shot at much as there bloody quite, down my way in the south east of South Australia there very skittish unless there just young ones as there always hunted
Running the .223 on the foxes mate. I'm in NSW.
The foxes get their fair share of attention from spotlighters but thermal is a while new ball game.
@@RJMHuntingAustralia that makes sense. I’ve watched a few of your videos now and those thermal scopes look great plus I’m in awe of your shots, especially on the run. I could never hit anything on the run with a scope but open sight was a different story
Took a heap of practice and my fair share of misses to acquire that skill set. Very rewarding when it all comes together
@@RJMHuntingAustralia it shows as your a cracking shot. What would you recommend for an entry level .22 calibre gas air rifle?
Probably something like an FX Crown mate. Haven't really played with many others
I hope when I go...it`s not with a backflip!
😅 me too
Hi sir your a good shooter.. i like to learn how to be good shooter..i have an airgun but my scope are too ugly to use.
A rabbit walks up to the Pearly Gates.
St Peter asks......
What's the point in shooting the rabbits? Are they considered an invasive species in Australia? I'm guessing they're not natives, but are they a pest?
I enjoy your videos and appreciate your work on helping out farms and stopping invasive predators like cats. Keep it up!
Thanks mate.
Yes the rabbits are an invasive species and a declared pest in Australia.

You guys lucky out there😂😂😂
In south africa theres HUMANS stealing stock of anything..
They also hunt other humans on farms, try to ambush them while they sleep is the modus operandi.
That's terrible.
We have our share of dickheads here too but yes we are very lucky in Australia mate
Well as they say, 'Necrophilia is dead boring' but if the rabbits are related 'it's only relatively boring.' Ah the old ones are the best. 😂
🤣🤣 Absolutely
All that with an air rifle. Cheaper ammo for sure. Farmers often take measures to protect their livestock from predators like foxes by using fencing, guard dogs, and other deterrents. In some areas, wildlife management practices are implemented to strike a balance between protecting livestock and maintaining healthy fox populations. Lambs rage against the foxes cleverly using an aussie. G-day
I was running the 223 on the foxes mate. Air rifle on the bunnies.
The G'day gets them every time. Well, almost. 😉
Great shooting You smoked them

In NZ I have head shot dozens of possums on rooves and in trees with a 1000 fps .177 single shot. Some times they never even twitch, other times despite major head injury they try to get away. One I shot inside our kitchen eating apples from the basket, a perfect head shot, all it did was put it's nose on the floor. I waited thinking it was playing possum but it was dead.
Awesome gear with good shot placement mate 👌
❤ What is the discription of your equipment, maximum range. I liked your gun , especially silencer, total cast of gun , telescope, silencer etc.
