The creators have said when the journey started the felt connected to the kids, that the kids were representation of them, where now Randy is their favorite and most relatable character.

With that combined with how much Trey and Matt love writing out Randy’s antics, I feel it would be a great way to satisfy both the creators and their fans.
@@lightingdragon4143 Eh, it could if they play it right. Especially if Stan plays a part in the ending argument. Honestly, I’ve been trying to keep an eye on Stan whenever Randy episodes come along because with all the shit that happens... I think Stan is just one bad day away from snapping.
I love how Randy bought the farm because he wanted a simpler life and tegridy in this idiotic modern world......Then he completely sold out, lost all tegridy, started making deals with Commnist China and evil Disney, started the corona and is completely failing as a father and husband. I love it!
Before the Season 23 finale came out I remember seeing a picture on the South Park Studios website that showed Santa with the four boys, only for the episode to say 'psych'. It's South Park at its most genuine. Pissing off people and not giving a crap.
I thought it worked perfectly with Randy being in control of the town for half the season, then he gets run out of town, and we had 3 or 4 "normal" episodes like Season 21-22, and then the final episode they had to cave ask him back again. They could do it every season from now on, have Randy open the first episode with Tegridy Farms in control of everything again, and then he gets run out of town mid season but always somehow is needed for the finale so he gets control again for next season... Trailer Park Boys does this with the boys going to jail at the end of every season and getting out at the beginning of the next season, swearing this time they're never going to jail again... I would love it! That finale episode with Randy, Jesus, and Santa doing fresh Tegridy coke is one of the best things I've ever seen. With the way things have gone since then in the world, we will look back on that episode in the future as an example of how open the world was in 2019, how much progress people were ready for, before this whole covid scheme started...
The problem I find with Randy is the character growth itself. He's one of the few characters that evolve during the show. The kids seem stuck, even if they were funnier early on.
Another example of Randy joining in on trends the kids are into is in Phone destroyer when he joined their group chat and even tried to play witht hem lol
I really liked him more when he was the major secondary character, but the Tegridy Farm stuff was okay. I liked him more in episodes like the coach of the Sarcastoball team, the sport he created, or the World of Warcraft episode.
It makes sense for Randy (and even Gerald to a small extent) to have become larger focal points of the show as Trey and Matt got older; they related less to the children and more to the adults and started writing more for them.
I think one aspect of Randy getting more popular is that when we watched south park when we were younger we identified more with the 4 kids, and now that we're adults we tend to identifie more with Randy
Yeah, but Butters was kind of forced and not well received because fans at the time thought he was meant to be Kennys replacement. The great thing about Randy is its more organic :)
Just gotta say, your videos are the perfect thing to watch after after I binge my favorite tv shows. Thank you for all your hard work! I hope you're doing well!
Randy is a real scientist. Dr. Mephesto is obviously more of a Dr. Frankenstein like character. Thus you go to Randy if you want to know about real things that can happen and you go to Mephisto if you want to make a manbearpig clone.
While only mentioned once, Clyde's dad is also a geologist, and also Randy's friend Nelson, of course more geologists more likely came as the series grew
I think the reason Randy became so much more involved in the show then the main 4 boys was because at the beginning of the show Matt Stone and Trey Parker had more childish mindset but as the series went on Matt and Trey both grew up and realized they connect more with Randy and thats why he became more prevalent and got more development
They seem like they can’t help themselves but make more teggrity farm episodes. They seem to really like Randy as a weed farmer. They like it so much it’s sorta their main focus. They’re passionate and I like that
I love terrify farms. 1 it’s super ironic, 2 it gives us more towelie screen time which I love, and 3 it gives the writers another setting to work with. I can only imagine how difficult it is to create more interesting stories when you’re confined to just a small town lol
Randy, basically the main character of modern South Park apparently. I stopped watching the show a decade ago so I have no idea. But I’m gonna watch this entire video.
I the Trey has joked it should be called the Randy and Butters show. On a side note Randy always wanting to be cool and hip reminds me of us all getting older.
I really really love the Tegridy farms arc, and especially the episode where Randy goes head to head with the nation’s vaping situation. It felt like such a breath of fresh air for the series. A welcomed change.
The pride he was taking in the fighting was supposed to be like a juxtaposition of how much the kids didn't give a crap about something you'd think they'd be taking that much pride in.
Great video on the evolution of Randy! Very accurate and well written. Good job! On a side note; as someone who watched EP1 when it first aired (and every episode since), I appreciate how the show has aged with me. Probably one of the reasons it's still around.
When I first saw "You're Getting Old" I thought it was the end of South Park. Now I feel like if it had been the last episode of South Park it would have been brilliant.
Thank you for this video! I love your reviews of the South Park specials, it’s great to see a character background especially for one that grew so substantially through the seasons :)
Fans: Can we have Randy Marsh take a back seat for a while and... Matt and Trey: NO! NOOOOO! *Smashes their head through a glass cabinet door and china plates*
I’m so glad that you made this video on my favorite South Park character! I’d love to see a South Park video comparing/contrasting Stan and Kyle. What’re the real differences between the two of them, and what does a typical Stan episode look like vs. a typical Kyle episode
I would like to point out that doing anything in the sciences is a nod at being obsessive, it takes a truly insane amount of devotion to take a topic that might bore most and learn it to the point in which you can form a whole career around it
Honestly, Randy is my favourite character in South Park, although I haven't watched the show in years, I remember always finding Randy to be the funniest character in the show. The 'We must stop pointing fingers, Finger Pointing gets us nowhere...Steve!' will always be a line that'll have me in stitches.
Randy is one of the big 3 in south park leaders thats being cartman, butters and the man himself randy marsh they are capable of starting revloutions and utilize charisma beyond the limits
I love the way South Park traveled, with the characters and setting, not everything stays the same and it’s always cool seeing “fresh” material for the show which has been running for nearly 25yrs. And being able to access every season and episode made without censorship is a blessing. I’m Hispanic myself and I laugh at all the pokes they took @ Mexicans on the show, people just gotta understand South Park targets everyone to be equal or else they wouldn’t target anyone at all.
Season 9 was Randy's breakout season. Losing edge had him as a secondary story or at least split with the kids. 9 episodes later we have him in the spotlight with Bloody Mary. Whenever I think of my favorite episodes, they happen to have Rand at the center
Randy being more prominent in the show is similar to what happened in The Simpsons with how Bart was originally supposed to be the focus but then Homer became the breakout star.
Awesome video man. The first episode of South Park aired the same year I was born and my parents loved it, so I've literally been watching for as long as I can remember -- even though I was aware of how the characters and show had changed over the years, I'd never considered how they evolved over time like this. I think that's a testament to how talented Matt and Trey and the rest of their team are, it was so natural feeling that it never called much attention
Randy has always been my favorite since the show first started...He’s hilarious and reminds me of myself and so many other people in my life all combined into one man...He’s an absolute Legend
I kind of disagree with everyone saying they see more of themselves as randy. I just think they made him so ignorant he could do the craziest shit and get away with it. And they found comedic gold and never looked back. I mean randy is often portrayed as all the worst qualities about adults. He’s basically a cartman or garrison esc character. And that’s why he’s so funny.
Randy at this point is basically becoming the face of south park with how much he appears in it and the fact that matt and trey are actually starting to like randy more then the actual south park kids now.

Over the years Marsh has become my favorite South Park character. He's consistantly changing and evolving while still being hilariously ridiculous. Only -M r - President Garrison is giving him competition in that field.
His son is mine. Randy is still one of my favorites
Fair, though i have to say, that whole season where 90% of garrisons lines were ‘oh jeez’ really annoyed me😂 i missed his total lack of tact and general offensiveness
You mean Darsh right?
I don't mind Randy being in the front. But I am glad that they have gone back to a bit more of the kids with the newest season. I like Tegridy Farms, but I think I like it being a side story arc more than just the main arc if you know what I mean.
your getting old hit me so hard. i actually moved to colorado and the landslide song turned me onto fleetwood mac and it is a song that will be played at my funeral
13:15 I loved they had Randy get in a "Hello there, children." in that episode, Chef's legacy is remembered.
The creators have said when the journey started the felt connected to the kids, that the kids were representation of them, where now Randy is their favorite and most relatable character.
Randy was someone that was always someone's dad we knew. 20 years later he is now that slightly older mate who won't leave his midlife crisis.
Randy displays a shockingly large number of ADHD symptoms.
-quick to anger
-prone to depression
-hyper fixation
-many hobbies and aspirations
-impulsiveness
And many more
He is a silly cartoon, don't read into it too much
He def has adhd lol

Randy: “What are you doing, Shelly?”
Shelly: (Pours lighter fluid on the shelves.) “Nothing, Dad. Go back to killing the family.” (Throws a match.)
Randy: “…Okay.”
I really want the development with Randy to kind of come full circle with Sharon leaving him and taking the kids. It’s become increasingly clear that everyone in his family hates him. With that combined with how much Trey and Matt love writing out Randy’s antics, I feel it would be a great way to satisfy both the creators and their fans.
Sharon has already left Randy twice before so I don't think it'll really have any meaning or Impact in the show at this point
@@lightingdragon4143
Eh, it could if they play it right. Especially if Stan plays a part in the ending argument.
Honestly, I’ve been trying to keep an eye on Stan whenever Randy episodes come along because with all the shit that happens... I think Stan is just one bad day away from snapping.

South Park is only getting better. I love the continuity they introduced and development of Randy as a focal character.
Me too I don’t understand why some people don’t like it. Starting from season 18 the continuity makes the show better imo

Randy Takes too much from the kids. Everything is just about how randy is a idiot now.
TEGRIDY!

@@zigga967 was great asf to me
I love how Randy bought the farm because he wanted a simpler life and tegridy in this idiotic modern world......Then he completely sold out, lost all tegridy, started making deals with Commnist China and evil Disney, started the corona and is completely failing as a father and husband. I love it!
In the process f*cking a bat and a pangolin
Before the Season 23 finale came out I remember seeing a picture on the South Park Studios website that showed Santa with the four boys, only for the episode to say 'psych'. It's South Park at its most genuine. Pissing off people and not giving a crap.
I saw that too. That episode even had the original opening intro too, but the four boys only ended up appearing for a minute or two.
With the way things have gone since then in the world, we will look back on that episode in the future as an example of how open the world was in 2019, how much progress people were ready for, before this whole covid scheme started...
one thing about Randy, he fully commits to whatever he does
The problem I find with Randy is the character growth itself. He's one of the few characters that evolve during the show. The kids seem stuck, even if they were funnier early on.
Another example of Randy joining in on trends the kids are into is in Phone destroyer when he joined their group chat and even tried to play witht hem lol
"Randy literally created the coronavirus. I'm not gonna show you how though. I don't wanna get demonitized." _Classic._
I’ve been waiting for a Randy video like this. He went from a background character, to one of the leads. A lot like Butters.
Yeah, but Butters was kind of forced and not well received because fans at the time thought he was meant to be Kennys replacement. The great thing about Randy is its more organic :)

This may be the greatest character analysis on RUclips ever made.
Just gotta say, your videos are the perfect thing to watch after after I binge my favorite tv shows. Thank you for all your hard work! I hope you're doing well!
Wait, Randy was the only scientist in South Park? Did Trey and Matt forget Dr. Mephesto?
Lol it seemed like they did but he actually plays an integral role in that episode. Maybe he lives just outside South Park?
I never thought of that
Randy is a real scientist.
I love how the creators pretty much told the audience “we aren’t doing this for you, we are doing this for us” at 22:50
"oh im sorry i thought i was in america"
might be the most unreasonably funny thing in my life
They seem like they can’t help themselves but make more teggrity farm episodes. They seem to really like Randy as a weed farmer. They like it so much it’s sorta their main focus. They’re passionate and I like that
Losing edge up until Lorde was my favourite Randy era.
Simpsons did it.
(Bart was originally the focus character, but over time it shifted to Homer). :D
Sharp
Nah they were pretty equal but after time it was more homer than Bart
I love terrify farms. 1 it’s super ironic, 2 it gives us more towelie screen time which I love, and 3 it gives the writers another setting to work with. I can only imagine how difficult it is to create more interesting stories when you’re confined to just a small town lol
I have been sans telly since Tegrity Farms. I think South Park is pretty much the only teevee show I miss 😁 Thanks for the vids ❤
Randy, basically the main character of modern South Park apparently.
I stopped watching the show a decade ago so I have no idea. But I’m gonna watch this entire video.
Wow you've missed so much. So if I were to bring up Butters, would that mean anything to you.
@@leephillips4402 butters was on the show a decade ago, my dude.
I stopped watching regularly around 2008-2009, so yeah. Butters was a thing.
The way I see it is that Cartman is the main kid character and Randy is the main adult character
@@JacksonWitsell Or Stan is the main kid. Randy is the main adult.
Honestly his character development is one of the best in all of television history
I the Trey has joked it should be called the Randy and Butters show. On a side note Randy always wanting to be cool and hip reminds me of us all getting older.
Should check out close enough on HBO max, it's basically that whole concept of getting old, but still enjoying the things you loved your whole life
This was a really good recap on Randy! haha been watching for so many years that I never considered his character development!
I seen all of south park multiple times through my childhood and now, I totally forgot he's a scientist
randy went from a total wild card to a one note gag character and everyone loves it
Thank you for this video!
Randy is South Park now grow up or go home 🏡
I’m so glad that you made this video on my favorite South Park character!
I’d love to see a South Park video comparing/contrasting Stan and Kyle. What’re the real differences between the two of them, and what does a typical Stan episode look like vs. a typical Kyle episode
0:03 didn’t even realize he used to look like that
I would like to point out that doing anything in the sciences is a nod at being obsessive, it takes a truly insane amount of devotion to take a topic that might bore most and learn it to the point in which you can form a whole career around it
Honestly, Randy is my favourite character in South Park, although I haven't watched the show in years, I remember always finding Randy to be the funniest character in the show. The 'We must stop pointing fingers, Finger Pointing gets us nowhere...Steve!' will always be a line that'll have me in stitches.
Weed jokes are too much fun to ever make Randy Marsh a geologist again.
Randy’s character progression has been nothing short of brilliant
I think the Finger Bang episode was the first time Randy's personality started to change.
"if you're going to fight for your tegridy, don't forget to bring a towel"
Season 9 was Randy's breakout season. Losing edge had him as a secondary story or at least split with the kids. 9 episodes later we have him in the spotlight with Bloody Mary. Whenever I think of my favorite episodes, they happen to have Rand at the center
Randy being more prominent in the show is similar to what happened in The Simpsons with how Bart was originally supposed to be the focus but then Homer became the breakout star.
I swear to God, the whole description of my personality comes down to "Randy Marsh"
I’d have never guessed 20 years ago that Randy would be the reason I’d continue to watch South Park.
I would never have guessed 20 years ago there would still BE South Park by 2021. Thank goodness!
@@DerHammerSpricht thank god, best show ever at this point

"Randy is a reflection of Trey and Matt."
Randy: *does the do with a bat and other animals*
Great analysis! I would find it helpful to have season and episode numbers on the screen when you're talking about them
I kind of disagree with everyone saying they see more of themselves as randy. I just think they made him so ignorant he could do the craziest shit and get away with it. And they found comedic gold and never looked back. I mean randy is often portrayed as all the worst qualities about adults. He’s basically a cartman or garrison esc character. And that’s why he’s so funny.
Yea every episode where Stan has to deal with him Stan plays straight-man to Randy's crazy-man. NEVER the other way around.
Not trying to be a dick whatsoever, but "esc" is actually "esque" lol. I agree tho!
Randy Marsh, the guy so ahead of the times he was playing a human hunter before World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.
So was Kenny
The fact Randy was singing Buffalo Solider goes perfect with this video it’s the solider they kept shooting but wouldn’t go down
That was super, thanks for asking!!!
Randy at this point is basically becoming the face of south park with
how much he appears in it and the fact that matt and trey are actually
starting to like randy more then the actual south park kids now.
