If you grew up listening to The Beatles, whether in the 60's, 70's, or even the 2000's... it's safe to say that those men changed your life. Thank you John, Paul, Ringo, and George.
The Beatles changed lives of those people who listened to their music in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 2010s; and they are still changing lives for the better for those who are listening in the 2020s.
It’s not even my least favorite on the album. I Want You and Golden Slumbers are the two songs I’m not very fond of. I don’t dislike them. They happen to be my least favorites.
When asked what my favorite Beatles song is I have to say the medley. And I have to listen to the whole thing. I hate when radio stations play one song from it. Each song needs the others to sound whole.
My favorite beatles album! Side 2 is simply exquisite. I was lucky enough to be at the concert for montserrat in 1997. When Paul launched into Golden Slumbers with the wonderful George Martin conducting, tears came down my face. I was so embarrassed until i looked down the row and saw a big burly man sobbing and others were struggling not to cry.
The medley sounds like what it is: Leftovers, dead-ends, and uncompleted songs. But these throwaways were conceived and orphaned by two of the most creative minds to ever make popular music, so their trash is our treasure.
It is ironic that they shot the Abbey Road cover photo outside the studio for the sake of convenience, but it turned out to be one of the most iconic cover photos in history. It is also ironic that the medley was a collection of incomplete unrelated songs that somehow came together brilliantly.

Regarding the guitar solo "battle" at The End, I love to read Jonathan Gould's take: "Paul opens with a characteristically fluid and melodically balanced line that sounds a high A before snaking an octave down the scale; George responds by soaring to an even higher D and sustaining it for half a bar before descending in syncopated pairs of 16th notes; John then picks upon the pattern of George's 16ths with a series of choppy thirds that hammer relentlessly on the second and flattened seventh degrees of the scale. The second time through, Paul answers John's bluesy flattened 7ths with bluesy minor thirds and then proceeds to echo George's earlier line, spiraling up to that same high D; George responds with some minor thirds of his own, while mimicking the choppy rhythm of John's part; John then drops two octaves to unleash a growling single-note line. On this final two-bar solo, Paul plays almost nothing but minor thirds and flattened sevenths in a herky-jerky rhythm that ends with a sudden plunge to a low A; George then reaches for the stars with a steeply ascending line that is pitched an octave above any notes heard so far; and John finishes with a string of insistent and heavily distorted 4ths, phrased in triplets, that drag behind the beat and grate against the background harmony."
Since my second life is writing music (at my age??), this video reminded that I had just become online friends with Geoff via Jack Douglas....and then he died. A really nice guy. I still mourn. RIP, Geoff.
One other cool fact, initially the album sides were swapped. Think about it, starting the record with that warm and welcoming Here Comes the Sun, ushering us all in for what was to follow. And having the album end with the manic chaos at the end of I Want You (She's So Heavy) would have been an amazing way to finish up.
I smile when I see the young people line up to walk across the pedestrian crossing on Abbey Road. When I lined up to cross, the kids on front and immediately behind me didn’t know the significance of it all only that it was “like iconic”.
Absolutely love this album, and yes, the one track I skip over is "Maxwell's Silver Hammer". "Something" is sheer brilliance and beauty, everything about it.

I love all the Beatles' music but the medley is one of my all-time favorite pieces of music. If it comes on the radio I will sit in my car until the end (The End). But then, I do that with almost all of their songs so...
I will never understand the "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" hate. To me, that song is brilliant. I love the incredibly dark subject matter contrasted with the playful Vaudeville style music. It's not in my top 10, or even top 20, Beatles songs, but I like it better than some of Paul's other songs in the same style.
I love the album, from first song to last. I got it for Christmas when I was ten years old. It brings back a lot of good feelings for me. Cheers from Texas, I love your videos.
I'll tell you how much I love that album and specially the ending medley. When I purchased the original vinyl record when they released it I was so blown away that I played it over and over for hours. Then for weeks and then for months. Eventually getting a scratch on the record in the middle of the medley. "Golden slumbers" would just repeat the lyric over and over until I moved the needle. Then I found that by taping a nickel to the phonograph arm above the needle it would not repeat, but there was a small skip whenever it got to that point in the track. To this day, fifty years later, I still get surprised when that track doesn't skip when I listen on digital media. Sadly the old vinyl was lost long ago.
I had the honour to be present on a Beatles recording session at Trident studios in late 60's. For me this album is their musical autobiography encapsulated on vinyl....the fractures that created the genius. For me The End encapsulates it all....a 3 voice guitar rant over a solid beat where, for once, Ringo raises his voice. A settling of old scores, a clearing out of loose ends, but symbolic of the love and respect they had for each other and the journey they'd shared. In those days all performances ended with the national anthem....Her Majesty....The Queen. I don't believe for one second that they didn't collectively &/or individually know that this medley was going to be their final act of collaboration.

I loved Abbey Road and especially the medley of songs on the B side. I thought it was cleverly done and unique and a fantastic end to their musical career together.
As a lifelong musician side 2 of Abbey Road was and is my inspiration. I was a young teen when I was released. That album blew me away. When you compare the other music that was popular back then to any of the Beatle music, it was like music from the future. A few of my bands performed side 2, it was a crowd pleaser. It's a great song.
My younger brother's favorite song♡
This was an excellent episode. Great work and thanks for posting!
Love all the track's on this album classic
Every album the Beatles recorded was great.
Every vid on this channel has been insightful, and made me really listen to Beatles songs more closely than ever.
I love your videos. Even though I know all this stuff, I just love hearing you talk about it. You share the same awe and love of the Beatles that all who watch do!!
The medley is one of the greatest stretches in popular music.
This was fantastic. Thank you !
I WANT TO TELL YOU how much I love your channel for all of the Beatles work & research you dig to produce. Thank You.
I agree. I love the Medley! It was a Beatles thing to do! 😎✌🏽
Excellent, extremely well done, thank you
The medley is my favorite and I listen to it over and over.n
Everything you said in this video, I totally agree with. Well done! 👍👍
Strange. Maxwells hammer is a masterpiece.
Nope, the only weak track on an otherwise flawless album
@@hw343434 Couldn't disagree more. LOVE Maxwell and I don't understand the hate it gets.
@@hw343434 You're just a Paul hater who loves John. I see you everywhere shitting on Paul. You don't have to hate Paul to like John
Agreed. I feel like most of the hated beatles songs are hated cause one of the other members didn't like it.
The "medley" is, by far, my favorite part of that album, especially the four guitar solos. And, yes, Paul should have definitely let John sing Oh Darlin'.
I had never thought of that before, but now it seems so obvious
Aw, I really like Paul's vocal on that.
Great videos man . You have a good vibe. Easy to listen too. It's a gift and I'm glad your using it.
Very good video! Loved this album forever! A true classic that will live on! 🎶🎸💯
The medley is my favorite piece of music ever.
Abbey Road is my Favorite Beatles Album. I was a Senior in High School when it was released. I remember the first time I heard Come Together, Golden Slumbers, Something, and Here Comes the Sun on my Car Radio AM Station. Absolutely LOVED the Compilation Side! Right down to the Crickets 🦗in the Background!!! 😊
Man thank you sooo much for your vids , I love the stories you tell about The Beatles , would (or could you) make a vid about all the ideas for tours or albums than never became a thing.
Hope you see this comment
the beatles bunch segment is absolute GOLD!! love it!!
Loved all their songs, but George’s contributions the most, especially Here Comes the Sun.
Another efin amazing video! Keep it up!
I loved Abbey Road and especially the medley of songs on the B side. I thought it was cleverly done and unique and a fantastic end to their musical career together.
Abbey is my favorite Album of all time - its all class
The Love You Take, Is Equal To The Love, You Make!
Great job on these videos. Very interesting. Keep it up!
We even did Her Majesty.
The second side (Here's Comes the Sun to Her Majesty) the BEST they ever did! Love the whole album, but the second side is more awesome than words can express!! :)
I wore out the grooves on that album when I was a kid. Thank God for CDs!
Dude your enthusiasm is awesome. Love these videos
God bless you sir. What a wonderful video . It's clear that we share a deep and abiding love for Beatles music and for Abbey Road in particular. And the way you closed out this video is a fine match for how the lads closed out this album- both made me teary-eyed. And btw I have loved the medley since the very first time I heard as a 10 year old in the bedroom of a teenager in 1970 1971. She also played me the entire Sweet Baby James album the same Saturday afternoon. What a mindblowing day for me .😊❤🎶🎶🎶🎵
I just found your Chanel and LOVE the content! Thank you
6:35 honestly? love this moment. it's honestly surprising that he didn't put yoko first. seeing him be like his old self is endearing.
My son's best friend is named Maxwell after the song. Just after the album was released I named a cat Maxwell because of the song. I would like to thank the Beatles for their hard work they got it right.
Honestly, John could be a little bit of a hater sometimes.... Paul totally nailed "Oh, Darling" his voice comes out really raunchy, really rock n' roll, and the Abbey Road medley was a masterpiece so I don't know what he was talking about.
I adore the Beatles. A lifelong love for me. The Abbey Road medley is so awesome! ♥️♥️♥️
Abbey Road is my favorite Beatles album. I love the medley on side 2.
