    I would say the Texas Special neck pickup with the Monty's in the bridge would be a great combination. I think it would be more balanced with what you are going for. The Monty's has more grit in the bridge, but the Texas sounds better in the neck.

      I hear you but bear in mind my pedals were setup for the Texas specials. They could have been dialled in better but I’m still learning how to do these vids properly. I’d say the TS are more ideal for aggressive music whether it be rock or country. DP51s are more ideal for mellow music like singer songwriter/r&b stuff.

    I have a set of Monty's DP51 pickups. I haven't put them a guitar yet. The Texas Specials sounded great. The Monty's pickups are a little dark, but they recommend a 50's wiring with no tone or cap on the bridge. They sell a wiring kit. That should make it brighter.

    • @alexbarbermusic
      @alexbarbermusic  2 года назад

      True but the Texas specials are really hot and bright pickups so I bet the DP51s would still be darker with the 50s mod. That being said, I wanted a more mellow and lower output type of pickup anyway. It’s been a few months now and I’m very happy with them!

    Nice demo! A refreshing change from the overly distorted, million note per second demo's. The neck pickups are a toss up. I'd give a slight edge to the DP in the bridge but it's so minute (my-noot) that if the guitar came with Texas Specials I'd probably leave them in. Otherwise I'd seriously consider the Monty's. I have his PAF's in my LP, glorious! He makes fantastic pickups.

    Great Demo. I think Monty's nailed the spirit of whatever Fender Custom Shop Nocaster Danish Pete has in his Tele, but the MIM Twisted Tele pickups sound so much like the custom shop versions that using one of those and just buying the bridge from Monty's might be a way to save some money. On Edit: Monty's apparently already figured out people preferred the Twisted Tele so won't sell bridge PUPs separately. I guess we all can decide whether or not the Monty's set is three times better than a Texas Special and an MIM Twisted Tele from Reverb, Ebay, or Gbase.

    • @alexbarbermusic
      @alexbarbermusic  2 года назад +2

      Fair but keep in mind that just because something is more expensive it doesn’t mean it’s better. It’s good to support smaller businesses. That being said I’d watch a comparison of the MIM vs Monty twisted tele pickups!

  • @derekjohnson5720
    @derekjohnson5720 4 месяца назад +1

    Montys danish pete set are not correct. The Montys bridge uses a alnico 5, petes fender had a no caster 51 in the bridge which uses alnico 3. Petes neck pup was a fender twisted tele pup. If you want petes original tele set get a nocaster in the bridge and a twisted tele for the neck

    Summary was too funny. Rly good job. I'm looking at nearly the exact same thing so I'll follow your journey. My take was more highs on the TX, more mids/lows DP's. You made a great point on dialing in your pedal board. Danish Pete's Twisted Tele neck (at 5.9k DC Resistance) and Nocaster bridge (at 7.1 DC Res) versus Texas Sp Cust Shop (at 9k neck, 10.2k bride), you would think there would be a bigger difference huh. Tone was still good for both. Maybe it'll show more with overdrive and distortion. Pete's tone (and play) sound SOO good on his Purple (not quite Custom Shop) and Anderton's did some Custom Shop's with the same pickups that also sounded ridiculously good. Question: Did you also look into pots, switch and any other electrical components? Really good video. Thanks. Was helpful to me 👍

    • @alexbarbermusic
      @alexbarbermusic  2 года назад

      Thanks man!! In hindsight I wish I did a pass with a distortion pedal because I think that would have demonstrated the differences better. Also I should have dialled in my board to be more neutral. I haven’t considered upgrading the pots or anything yet but maybe down the line!

By the way your background setup is extremely clean/lean/unbulky/simple. You happy with the Apple mini ?
