When comparing pickups, play the same parts on both pickups back to back. It makes it much easier to compare versus playing 2 different parts of the same song.
I mean you're right, but it doesn't really matter in this context because lower resistance here does mean higher output. He's doing an apples to apples comparison of very similar pickups so here, that's fine, even though it's technically wrong.
No one gives output measurements because it's inherently inconsistent to measure. So what do you propose we do? Impedance hopefully tells us how much wire we're working with so it's better than nothing!
i came here because im getting a tele built and wanting some dp51 pickups, but you got a sub from me purely from the "thats how your mum likes it" call. well played sir
Hm, based on this demo I prefer the stock pickups in my Squier Classic Vibe '50s Tele 🤷🏻♂️ But! I guess it also depends on the amp you are using, that’s a big part of it too. But out of your two, I preferred #2 with the volume match.
Honestly, I strongly preferred the Nocaster in all of them, I thought it had more of the "tele tone" and responded much better to dynamics. But to each their own. The DP51 is too bright for my taste.
I find my Nocaster 51 neck has as much clarity as my Fender Twisted neck pickup! And in this blind demo I preferred the Fender strat neck and Nocaster pup.
Aced the test 👏🤯. The smoothness of that DP with overdrive gave it away. That chunky neck sound is the issue with one tele of mine, but is solved in my Nashville Tele. The Strat was slightly thinner. It’s crazy how attuned our ears can become over time to a certain sound profile.
For overdrive I prefer the original pickup by far., clean about the same. Listening with Apple earbuds. Will re listen through monitors and headphones later. As for the Strat PU play a Strat.😊
@@PherotoneStudios The way you listen to these comparisons really does make a difference lol. That's why I always take tone demos with a pinch of salt. I listened on my laptop with decent quality headphones
I find those pickups to bright! Prefer a warmer fuller sound. I like pickups that rock like strats. The Fender Tex-Mex is fuller sounding. See reviews on youtube. You will like it unless you like bright type of sound, chicken picking type of the 50's. I found that harsh to the ear and would use tone control to warm it. With 250K pot + .047uF cap. Brighter with 500K - .022uf combo. The lower the cap, the brighter the sound. The higher the pot also brighter sound. There is a lot of room for experimentation! Thanks for your excellent reviews. Good work. 😊
I got the hot vintage alnico 3 set, it's like 10 ohm in the bridge, 8 in the neck. The 3 has less out put so I still get a decent chime in the bridge and the neck is jazzy. The key is to get the ash body for this vintage sound. It's true single coil.
The twisted tele comes in the fender mexican baja. I don’t play about with pickups very often but it’s the best! (To my ears) I think people really undervalue low outputs for bareknuckle and the likes. Just let the amp work x
@@PherotoneStudios true I mean in general I do like hot pickups though. But I have a guitar with just like medium output and they sound absolutely fantastic
For clean sounds, the Montys, but Fender for driven sounds. However, I didn't hear enough difference to convince me to go for one over the other. When playing clean & strummed hard, the difference is even less. I listened on headphones.
Identifying the difference between the strat and a tele is very easy. Play a tele almost exclusively for 30 years and it's obvious. Immediately, I could tell that the tele was first and it was only confirmed when the strat was played second.
i could hear subtle differences with my worn out old headphones, i'm getting some new high quality headphones soon so if i remember i'll have another listen with those out of interest. I did slightly prefer your new lower output pickup, especially for clean sounds, but i think my favourite sound in the video was the strat to be honest. i've always thought the perfect fender setup might be tele bridge pickup and strat neck pickup.
I hate these blind tests. Just tell me which is which while I'm listening. Also, I feel like these are too bright. Neck pickup should be dark. Bright is what the bridge pickup is for.
After listening to this and other " shootouts" between upper priced pickups. More often than not there is a negligible difference between them. And in my humble opinion not worth spending upwards of $100. On something with a pennies worth of difference.
The thing I dont get with the monty set is they are not actually an accurate copy of Petes Fender pups. Montys dp set use alnico 5, Nocaster 51 use alnico 3, so they have no actually copied Petes original pups at all 🤔🤔
that’s a tune with a current working title of ‘EZ’. It’s a lot rockier than in this video. It’s a good tune to test intonation due to the open strings. There’s more of that song in my Crimson Guitars Descendant video
Idk if I wanted a stratty sound I'd get a strat but being it's a telecaster, why would u want to make it sound like a strat. I could here subtle differences but nothing significant enough to warrant changing pickups. I mean if I would have invested in pickups to make my guitar sound better & this difference as shown in this video was the same, honestly I'd feel as though it was a waste of time & money....
It's unfortunately nonsense here on YT since you can't hear barely any difference due the bad sound quality! And I own high-end HPs. 1 is maybe a little brighter and detailed but not worth the update 'cause of EQ. In natura maybe there're differences ...
Out of interest, what did you listen through? What I’ve noticed that in the room and during editing, some things are very obvious but once uploaded to RUclips, their compression seems to remove a layer of audio or something so it’s hard to tell
They sound the "same" to literally all humans except a few tele players. And to them, when you adjust the amp. Sonic "Expertise" is one of the best ways to burn money ever invented.
would it really be so effin' difficult to play the same riff on both pickups, instead of always playing the first half on one and the second on the other? just to hear an actual, straight up comparison. your entire video has this frustrating aspect of never playing the same two tones on different pickups.
When comparing pickups, play the same parts on both pickups back to back. It makes it much easier to compare versus playing 2 different parts of the same song.
Ohms is not a measurment of output....it's a measurement of resistance in the coil.
I mean you're right, but it doesn't really matter in this context because lower resistance here does mean higher output. He's doing an apples to apples comparison of very similar pickups so here, that's fine, even though it's technically wrong.

“Just how mum likes it”. Instantly laughed and subscribed
I have the Strat version of the Classic Vibe. Those pickups are very good as well.
Classic Vibes have surprisingly decent pickups for that kind of money.
Twisted Tele set is bad arse, I believe the neck has that taller bobbin strat style also
Really like the sound of the DP51's! Very straty like you say. Much nicer than what you had in there before!. Great vid mate!

I know the guys at Montys. Absolutely top blokes.
I preferred the 51 with a little dirt. But the cleans on the new one are fantastic. Picked the Strat out right away though
The best telecaster pickup is the Fender Muddy Waters signature Telecaster bridge. Glad to help
Nice demo. have you tried Jason Isbell Tele? the neck really straty at least to my ear. Btw, i might want to buy DP51. Cheers.

As soon as you kick on the OD it’s the nocaster by far
Neck Pickups are in different positions relative to the bridge,
You'd have to put them
In the same position for a better comparison

Interested in what amp are you using in this video? Sounds great
Would love to see you play an away classic / asap special
Ever think it might be pete's playing you like and not the pickup? Guitar players obsessing over tiny details is bewildering to me.
it's all cork sniffing b.s..
Some Telecaster players do NOT go through an overdrive, so the bridge pickups may be very different...
Try a Harmonic Design mini strat for tele.
I think the term and the concept of being terminally online started in guitar customizing forums
Preferred Guitar 2 (Nocaster) with drive, more midrange bite.

could not tell? I find the best way to test a pickup is with overdrives.
I preferred Guitar 2 in both samples. It seems to have more detail in the mids and sweeter highs.
So did I, which means we liked both pick-ups for different reasons
If they are cheaper than the Nocasters then it is very good.
I guessed guitar 1 was the Tele only by the harmonics. Tonally, it does sound very stratty.
Hard to tell once RUclips is done compressing and limiting the sound.
I honestly can’t really pick because they’re both sound good. Almost similar? There’s a difference but I do hear them in the same tier
And when the band joins in, there will be less difference and when you are live, there will be much less difference.
what guitar is it?

Dimarzio Twang King for the neck pickup end of story.
