Funny story that "Fepsi" reminded me of. My mom Robin had this ongoing joke that when she did something naughty or that made someone mad she would say "that wasn't me. That was my doppelganger Fobin" she did that to all if us like me and she'd say "was that you or Felby saying that" she passed last year and I haven't thought of that joke since then. I don’t know why, as someone who moved here last summer, I get so irrationally excited when they talk in depth about North Carolina.
As someone who grew up and still lives there, I agree. NC doesn't get enough love.
It's surreal to me, having lived here all my life, it's hard to imagine these guys came from relatively humble NC

I went on a canoeing trip about 25 years ago and got stuck with my friends cousin from Maine, who nobody had ever met. We obviously didn't have much to talk about. So instead, he taught me a song to learn the 16 counties in Maine. I can still sing it to this day. I lived in the South and still have never been to Maine.
Don't know if anyone remembers the Apollo 1 mission that exploded in 1967. one of the astronauts gus Grissom on that flight lived in Lexington Park maryland and I live in his house today ❤

There's a great novel for upper elementary kids about that exact experience of watching the Challenger explosion at school just like you did: We Dream of Space, by Erin Entrada Kelly. I recommend it highly.
Hearing them talk about my hometown at the top of the episode and about how we had to memorize the 100 NC counties on that blank map in 4th grade just touches a special place in my heart.

I too was in elementary school and they wheeled in the cart with the tv to watch the Challenger. I think the class was more in shock not truly understanding everything but my teacher was devastated for weeks it feels like. So strange Rhett and Link were also watching in class.
I was watching as well on the cart tv in 1st grade.
Our whole school was standing outside watching it. Ocala Florida.
They really missed the perfect opportunity to put “cap” and “no cap” on their ping-pong paddles 😞

If the Pepsi thing was for a space shuttle Challenger mission in 1985 then it wasn't the one that exploded. The one that had the tragedy was in 1986. It had 3 missions in 1985.

I remember you day the challenger blew up was the day I stayed home from school. Only had regular tv and you saw it explode repeatedly
God, it was devastating. Such a shock, especially after the build up with all the Crista (sorry sp) McCauliffe stuff, and so much more. And somehow just the knowing everyone was watching, all of us at the same time.
I would think the most visited roadside attraction in North Carolina would be Gravediggers place.

my grandparents own a store in New Bern called ‘Nautical Wheelers’. the town has bear statues dressed as various things. my grandparents store is getting their very own ‘Nautical’ bear statue !!
The 7UP video game I played was on the NES and it was several mini-games, not a specific in-line platformer or adventure... But no telling if I'm blending games. My cousins rented it from Blockbuster so we only got to play it very briefly. I spent my VG rentals on the Domino's NOID platformer.
