I think I said this last time. Just when I think no one can add anything new to this conversation StopDrop&Retro makes a video . Mikenomics , I love it! Well done sir.
"And the Chameleon is actually . . ." (rips off mask) "OLD MR. SNES Jr.?!" MIKE KENNEDY: "And I would have gotten away with it too if not for you meddling kids!"
+shawnphase You're welcome! I've been having a ton of fun making these. But lately it's been hard to make content that's more entertaining than what's actually happening with this project!
older VGS proposal had $50 postage fee, when the legit cost would be $10 tops. 50k of 100 raised would be for development. SKIM all over it. Plus the obvious weakness of buggy cart-based product = would lose customers without costly beta-tests. N64 carts had troubles, VGS would be crushed. No update = no interest. Wonder what happens since gamegavel and retro magazine will live on. Good of Pat to call out how ALL in the community with stuff to sell, have to speak SOFTLY, nothing negative, or risk Mike Kennedy bashing them in return, in future.Thumbed + Subbed
+Art Bell Thank you for your subscription! The no update situation in this day and age is a definite disadvantage. He later told SEGA Nerds at the Toy Fair that bugs won't be fixed if they're "not catastrophic." Does this guy even understand that some updates make incremental improvements? Not every update is to fix a game killing bug.
+Jomaster The Second haha! Thanks! I hope this isn't the end because I love making them! But if I know Mike, he's not giving up the fight any time soon!
Jesus Christ. How hard can it be to make a real prototype? Just, like, shove a Raspberry Pie into a toaster or something and boot some open source indie games on it. It'd be shitty, but it'd at least be SOMETHING.
Well, there's also the part where Coleco told them that they too need a prototype, and then told Mike to go away when he had nothing to show them. Yeah, I'm gonna miss this saga.
StopDrop&Retro Goodness, I hope not. Anything in a Jaguar shell that isn't a fucking Jaguar is going to be looked at with INTENSE scrutiny from here on out, and anything Mike Kennedy is involved in will almost certainly be dismissed as a scam.
+xpcoin Maybe so, I'm just saying he created this mess and now has walked away and left them dealing with the fallout to some extent. Sure, some of that is self-induced promotion, but some of it is on Mike.
+Retro Active That has got to be one of the biggest tragedies in this story. I didn't want to address it in this video because I hope it'll just get swept under the rug if we don't focus on it. But the reason people are even going into that drama is because Mike ran away with his tail between his legs and doesn't want to take responsibility for what he's done. What a piece of shit. I have no problem with him ruining his own reputation but don't drag other people down with you. Stand up and take responsibility.
+StopDrop&Retro Agreed. Now you might argue that agreeing to work with Mike has subjected you to this particular risk, as you were expecting to make money and there are no guarantees. However, what Mike promised and promoted were nothing even remotely close to what he delivered/displayed at the toy fair and Facebook, and he already had Game Gavel and Retro magazine, so how could they have seen this debacle coming. Regardless, running and hiding is the wrong response no matter what, more so when others are left as collateral damage to deal with the fallout. Just a mess and a shame it went the way it did.
+Retro Active Exactly. Mike didn't throw away his reputation completely until he stuffed a SNES Jr. in there. I was convinced that once he got the COLECO branding his problems were over, things were falling into place. But I think the Toy Fair was the moment where people in the scene needed to take a look at the evidence, the fact that Mike refused to open the prototype and realize they couldn't support something that was obviously going into the realm of fraud.
+Anthony Snyder Thanks! I've got a lot of cool stuff coming up and I love to point and laugh at a shitty Kickstarter scheme! Hope to see you in the comments!
UPDATE: Coleco Holdings has relinquished the coleco name brand telling them(kennedy and retro vgs guys) good riddance because they believe they vilify their brand.
StopDrop&Retro =i suspect the rvgs from the start. kennedy's team do not research how did the ouya succeed, and least show their first working PROTOTYPE(a rule that must do for kickstater in technology category). do you think that coleco holdings did the right thing???
After hearing of this latest chapter in this RVGS/CC scam, I am tempted to cancel my Retro magazine subscription (I certainly won't renew it). The only thing that is stopping me is that I am afraid that if I cancel it, I won't get my money back or any new issues - if any new issues are forthcoming. There was about a six month gap between issues 9 and 10. Considering all of the trouble Mike is getting himself into, who knows if issue 11 will ever be released. In any case, cancelling will get me nothing, keeping it might still get me a few more issues. I love listening to your commentary on the saga of Mike Kennedy. Are you at all familiar with psychopathy and how people in sales tend to be more on the psychopathic side? I am not saying Mike is a psychopath, but his ability to shamelessly tell such baldfaced, easily disprovable lies time and time again, without apology or acknowledgement of his deceitful behavior, are indeed indicative of psychopathic tendencies. I have also heard how he has stabbed long-time, loyal friends in the back and taken credit for their work (e.g. Retro magazine). His RVGS/CC sales pitches came on pretty strong and some otherwise smart people were taken in and advantage of. This is one thing I hate about salesmen in particular, they tell you what you want to hear or what will manipulate you into handing over your money to them.
+senatortombstone Good points! That's actually where I've been going with this! Mike definitely has a sales-man's mindset but I don't think he's a psychopath, that's too broad. He's actually a narcissist. In fact, if you look at the old definition for a narcissist (I think it's the DSM-IV) it has nine points to define a narcissist and MIke meets ALL NINE POINTS. It's incredible. Oh, and I agree with the RETRO mag thing. Thankfully I only subscribed to year 1 but I don't think there's ever going to be an issue 11. If it ever exists, it's only going to be a digital download and probably only half the size as a regular issue.
+StopDrop&Retro Believe it or not, the Retro FB page indicated that issue #11 is going to the presses. The cover features three triforces, one with Link, one with Zelda, and one with Ganon. I do hope the magazine continues, as I enjoy reading about Retro games and I don't want to get nothing for my paid subscription, but yeah I would not be surprised if each issue is the last.
the prototype system that was revealed to be using a capture card is the exact same one that was used in the john carlsen video demonstrating on his kitchen table. go back and watch and it is the same shell and capture board inside. the toy fair mini snes could not be used so they used the clear one to try and promote the kickstarter.
+darthv72 Nope, Carlsen's prototype was just a random mishmash of parts that were identified here: atariage.com/forums/topic/235430-how-has-this-not-been-posted-yet-retro-vgs/?view=findpost&p=3335358
+BawesomeBurf Thanks! The Mikeonomic system is easy once you understand that as much money as possible flows back to Mike or his companies and the scraps go towards trying to make what you promised people in exchange for their money.
"Shyster /ˈʃaɪstər/ is a slang word for someone who acts in a disreputable, unethical, or unscrupulous way, especially in the practice of law, sometimes also politics or business."
Yeah it compelled a lot of people who had never done vids on this type of thing before to do them, me included i wondered why on the last facebook post comments were hidden
Ah jeebus, I missed the whole 'prototype-video-capture-card' fuckery. I don't know why I ever turn my attention away from this never-ending fountain of comedic incompetence. Thanks for keeping the lulz fresh in our minds, SD&R! As far as lolcows go, this guy is as blissfully incompetent as Chris-Chan and as blatant a liar as Jason Genova. I bet that pretty soon Mike's gonna make a video admitting everything and at the same time demanding he should get forgiveness and respect for coming clean, just like the Pisslord himself.
+Jurrasic Park I love Chris Chan (not Christine though)! I love that you compared Mike to Chris, I can see the similarities. I need to give Mike a clown shirt.
+StopDrop&Retro Yeah, Chris REALLY needs to give up on this 'male lesbian' thing: he makes the most HIDEOUS female imaginable, and worse, he looks like a 50 year old woman instead of a man in his early 30s! But what really reminds me of Mike in Chris-chan is his blissful belief in his own competence in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, as well as his belief that money should just come to him for making an effort, no matter how half-assed that effort might be. Still, maybe you and some of us subscribers should have a mini-charity drive and see if we can't buy and send Mike a Sonichu medallion or a....damn it's a shame there's no real Coleco 'mascot' character or we could get one of Cchan's customized Amibos for him based on one, and see if he makes the connection or not. ;-) Whaddya think?
I know that this is not subject of the video but I'm curious to know your opinion: Do you ever heard of the game Star Citizen? Do you think he can be something that will really work out and be good or is it another possible scam?
+KamatsuKyoto I haven't been following that one too closely so there could be some issue I'm not aware of, but from what I do know, I don't think it's a scam. I know they're raking in tons of cash from the crowd and the "completed" game hasn't shipped yet but they're entitled to their success and they seem to be making progress. I don't think people who are shelling out hundreds, or thousands into digital content are making a wise choice, but that's their choice. I don't think the game is a scam because they already have so much up and running (from what I can tell). If they were pulling in this much money based ONLY on hopes and dreams, that would be another discussion. I think the biggest issue they will run into is satisfying their user base. I'm sure the people paying hundreds right now are expecting something big in the future and if their expectations aren't met that might not end well depending on how much of the community is unsatisfied. Any project that hasn't officially delivered has a possibility of being a scam because we can't get into the head of the creator and know their true intentions. But from what I know about Star Citizen it seems most likely that it is not. It's just making a lot of money and some people are paying a lot but I don't think that's wrong in itself. I'm not seeing any warning signs yet. I don't know if I'll ever get Star Citizens, it feels like something that'll end up being waaaaay over my head. Now something like No Man's Sky on the other hand, that is something I'm interested in!
+TortureVision I'm dying to know what he's going to do next. I'm sure this is not the last we'll see of him! Thanks for your comments, I'll see you around!!
I don't understand how they got any public money in the first place? Anyone who gamed during the 8 and 16 bit eras knows that the best games came from Japan. A failure right from the start.
+xghostpilotx I think cockroaches will be extinct before Mike gives up. Call me crazy, but I still think he has something planned to try to get back in with the community (I emphasize on "try" there)
+jlebrech That's the funny part, people do that all day on Kickstarter. I think Mike is just completely out of touch with what's happening currently. Hell, if he tried to do that SNES in a Jag shell with the Gamerztek SNES clone he might have actually had a chance of pulling off the illusion no one could figure out but I think he just doesn't know these things are out there.
I think that kickstarter has been setup to suck your money, why else are they so silence about the console, why else dit they use a snes jr motherboard and then claim to have a prototype. Also at the end, how that man say's we are here to preserve your old retro games, hahaha. I will be not affraid & surprised if this project will be turned into a piece of shit.
I think I said this last time. Just when I think no one can add anything new to this conversation StopDrop&Retro makes a video . Mikenomics , I love it! Well done sir.
+PK's Retro Reviews Thanks! The things you learn when following this story! I can't take my eyes off it! I hope this isn't the end
"And the Chameleon is actually . . ."
(rips off mask)
"OLD MR. SNES Jr.?!"
MIKE KENNEDY: "And I would have gotten away with it too if not for you meddling kids!"
+Lis Vaj I so wanted this to happen in real life. Too bad Mike's living in a bunker 30 floors below sea level right now.
Something tells me he googled ‘board with card slot’ and went from there .
5 years later and yeah, they're gone completely. All the social media presence is gone.
Excuse me, excuse me, I, I believe you have my...my cartridge.
i love your vids mane. i would say they are one of the funniest parts of this whole saga. thanks for going the distance.
+shawnphase You're welcome! I've been having a ton of fun making these. But lately it's been hard to make content that's more entertaining than what's actually happening with this project!

+Jomaster The Second haha! Thanks! I hope this isn't the end because I love making them! But if I know Mike, he's not giving up the fight any time soon!
StopDrop&Retro I honestly wouldn't be surprised if a documentary springs out from this.
Jesus Christ. How hard can it be to make a real prototype? Just, like, shove a Raspberry Pie into a toaster or something and boot some open source indie games on it. It'd be shitty, but it'd at least be SOMETHING.
So Mr. Kennedy, I'll go ahead and put your project into an IRA andddd... It's gone.

More than anything, I'm upset with the fallout that Mike has created with this mess, e.g. Gamester81, Pat the NES Punk, AlphaOmegaSin, et. al.

great episode! i just came across your channel and now subscribed!
+Anthony Snyder Thanks! I've got a lot of cool stuff coming up and I love to point and laugh at a shitty Kickstarter scheme! Hope to see you in the comments!

Good Analisys, you deserve more subs!

+Sauwercraud I'll do that tonight! That's a good idea, thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed the coverage!
It's so confusing the way he manages (or mismanages) the funds for everything. Love the Office Space clip at the end.

No content ID for office space? ;)
+wsl107 Not yet! Thankfully. Hopefully I chopped it up enough to where it won't trigger.
You know I'm going to buy that cartridge base console you have before it ran out of production.

totally pointless, why not just sell a case for raspberry pi with a customised emulation station. would be better than that monstrosity.

Mike Kennedy needs help. Let's start a GoFundMe for his psychiatric coverage.
Now that's a campaign I can get behind! The guy really needs help though, his Patreon is a joke.
