That Ferris Bueller line is because the same actor who played Ferris (Matthew Broderick) was also the lead actor in the movie Godzilla that released I think in 99.
The Ferris Bueller line is Broderick was in the Godzilla movie 1998. Ferris B came out in the 86
Always good to see you my dude. Congrats on the wedding and thanks for watching as usual entertaining af.
Would love to see Crypt on one! :)
Put Crypt in an ERB, EXPEDITIOUSLY!!!
He could play Oliver Hardy if they ever put Stan and Oliver in an ERB. Or one of the Three Stooges.
we had the three stooges already tho@@lucianseekinglove
When we gonna get crypt in a battle
Godzilla saying "I'll still destroy ya" is a reference to Destoroyah who is one of Godzilla's enemies
who also killed Godzilla Jr as well.
FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE NOTICED THIS!!
Bryan Cranston was in the 2014 Godzilla. He was featured in the trailers-only to……spoiler alert….die early on..people were disappointed majorly
oooooooohso it's a double! I wonder why they said 'Cranston' rather than Walter White...
@@BeautifulEarthJa Because Bryan Cranston is the actor...? Why would they say "Walter White"?
But it’s ALSO a breaking bad reference because Walter gets cancer in s1 and we all know he’s going to die eventually and in the end he succumbs to the cancer
@@TheHaas123that's how I interpreted the line. Getting the cancer was the death sentence.
@@anthonyferguson9282 yeah it’s a double which is dope
Damn, I despise you - 5
You make weak tokusatsu - 7
Soft, like some tofu - 5
Yep, that’s a haiku alright.
No its not...its a kaiju haiku
@@ryanscoffeehour6404Speak in a haiku, got a 300 IQ, see what I might do
@ApexRambo Spoke in a haiku, he got that iq for real, he really haikued him.
When you have 2 brains, one head and one ass, you can be quick and deep thinker.
8:42, In the original Godzilla movie, they used a metal glove and rubbed it against a double bass to make the roaring sound.
I caught that too! It really is incredible the deep cuts ERB can get into!
I got that one as well
I thought it was leather
@@mitchellwhitem.8052I also heard this, they wore a leather glove they dipped in pine tar resin and rubbed it against a double bass
7:25 in 1998 there was a Godzilla movie, considered one of the worst American ones, that stared Matthew Broderick who played Ferris Bueller.
Yup. First Godzilla movie I ever seen. Born in 93
Oddly enough, that one was one of my favorite Godzilla titles...though I was born in the 90s.
@@bloodwolfgaming9269 I think that's a consensus I see a lot actually. If you were born around that time you like it. Before or after it? Probably not lol.
Not to mention, that in Final Wars, they rebranded that one as "Zilla" and brought him into the movie just so they could kill it with the "real" Godzilla.
And they had godzilla lay eggs in it. 🤦♂️
It was also his second verse in the battle. So the 0-2 line was also a reference to that
Yup lost two rounds. O-2
@@justintime1993Godzilla is a walking breathing atomic breath plot armor because of the contract that Toho made Legendary sign lol.
Also o2 = oxygen if that wasn't obvious lol
@@deathkage779 Kong is living plot armor.
@@BigBadWolf995 no he isn't but whatever helps you sleep at night.
I am so glad you caught that "rap Godzilla" bar. Scru missed that one and it made me sad.
I think he got it, but it was just so obvious he didn't need to touch on it
@@123austinl It was indeed extremely obvious, though since he did point out other Eminem references, it'd have made sense to point it out, but it's not a problem.
ngl I do dislike these observations where the (usually) op just assumes that someone missed it, even if what was missed was overtly obvious anyway.
I dont see many people talk about how it referenced both eminem’s songs “rap god” and “godzilla”. They see rap god but miss out Godzilla so he basically saying twice in one line he aint eminem
@@mosanity Exactly! I caught that right away, and Crypt caught it.
They also missed the following double about prey/pray
I was not expecting a Rampage bar. Rampage is an arcade game where Lizzie, a giant lizard, was one of the three giants that you could play. Mixing it with Beauty & the Beast, chef kiss
Also the movie Rampage about the giant silver gorilla, which ties in top the "I ain't bringing no Silverback" line
Course the "Kong" character was named George
As a Godzilla fan all my life, it felt really satisfying to hear all the niche things that ERB added to the verses, shows they really did so much research.
Congrats on getting married hope it goes good
Omg He Will Never Rap The Same😢 🤦♂️.
Well he's the American Randolph, so we'll see
chances it doesnt
@@vertigobeatz7118tf you mean?
Petition to get crypt on erb as Paul Bunyan
3:13 “make an ass out of you, like Nintendo did” is a donkey Kong reference. Ass being another word for donkey. Also Shigeru Miyamoto- the creator of donkey Kong- said that the 1933 King Kong film was an inspiration for the donkey Kong character. Also the “its beauty kills this beast” at 3:43 is a reference to beauty and the beast, which Miyamoto also said was an inspiration for donkey Kong. Also also, at the end of the King Kong films- when kong is dead on the street in New York after falling off the Empire State Building- Carl Denham (Jack black’s character) said “it wasn’t the airplanes. It was beauty that killed the beast”. Also also also, the story of King Kong often gets compared to the story of beauty and the beast
They also tried to sue Nintendo over the Donkey Kong bit and LOST and had to pay them a crap ton of $$ for the damages and made them look like an ass that way as well.
Dude, you caught about 20% of the references in that battle, but love how much you enjoyed it.
Wait fucking what. That means I caught like 10% on my first listen. I'd say I did semi decent based on that my knowledge comes only from seening two King Kong movies, one being the OG and one Godzilla movie. Idk which one. Rest of my knowledge is from back of the day 9gag and other sources of memes lol.
@SimoLEnko i wasn't dissing you, just saying that erb went DEEP on this one. They dug into commercials from the 90s comic books from the wighties, movies from the 50s and 30s.
Dudes did MAJOR research on this one.
If you're not an old school nerd that is steeped in the lore you'd have no chance.
Just sayin, this one deserves the name epic.
@@christophjohnson3777 And this ain't no exaggeration. This is probably THE most loaded battle they've done to date, and here's hoping they keep that studious energy up. Just as long as they never do a Leonidas vs Master Chief ever again...
@@Nazhulian yeah, I'm a zilla fan from way back, and i didn't catch half of it first go round.
Leonidas v mc had a couple good punches, but they coulda done so much better there.
The worst ones to me were the presidential election ones. Always pretty one sided, and not very well executed on either side.
The Actor that played Ferris Bueller was in Tristar's version of Godzilla which came out in 1998.
As a bonafide Godzilla junkie (complete with $2k in Godzilla tattoos), the references in this battle were absolutely not the casual, wiki-researched material I was expecting. There were some DEEP cuts. The “ass-brain” line was a reference to Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2 where they tried to kill him by destroying a secondary brain in the lower spine. The “you didn’t get cooler in the 90’s” was partly a reference to the ‘98 film (as evidenced by the Ferris Bueller bar) but was ALSO a reference to Godzilla vs Destoroyah in ‘94 where he died by melting down (supported by the “destroy ya” line). The “recycled crap like All Monsters Attack” might have been the deepest cut though. Also called “Godzilla’s Revenge”, it was probably the weakest entry because of Minilla but ALSO because of the heavy use of stock footage. This battle was 100% written by another lifelong Godzilla fan, there’s no doubt in my mind.
Don't forget the Iron Man and Thor line, a reference to both Iron and Thorium (part of his atomic rebuttal) but a reference to his run in Marvel comics in the 70s where in on fight Godzilla fought the Avengers and matched Thor in strength.
@@justinswinehart5361 Truth. Was an amazing video.
Crypt, I'd like to commend you on your reaction videos because it's a type of content that suffers greatly from people just playing someone else's work and not contributing anything to the experience just to ride on something popular. Yet, you go through the work of breaking down the verses, giving us, viewers, a better understanding and thus appreciation of the original work. And you do all this with an infectious energy and excitement that is just great.
One of the lines that slips through in Godzilla's double-time/chopping third round is that "Destroy Ya" can easily mean "Destroyah" as in Destroyah the Oxygen Destroyer which was one of Godzilla's most powerful foes. Kong called himself "an oxygen destroyer" leading into the Destroyah oxygen destroyer rebuttal (I already beat THE oxygen destroyer, what are you?) into Ghidora was smooth.
Also, another cool thing about the "chopping" 3rd verse is that it started off as a rebuttal entirely to Kong's atoms/oxygen lines. Atom splitting is the source of nuclear fission/power/bombs. He literally "chopped" his "atom-splitting" lines. A very nice touch!
King Kong entered the chat w/ a reference to the old school atari game “Rampage” which featured 3 playable monsters. 1 was a King Kong type, but I can’t remember its name (George?), and 1 was a Godzilla type named “Lizzie”.
The balls on the cutting room floor is a reference to the first hollywood godzilla movie, where they made zilla a female who laid eggs. And the main protagonist was ferris bueler
Actually he was asexual. Was able to reproduce without a mate.
“cause if you dropkick at me I’ll shove a tree down your neck”
That was a reference to two different Godzilla vs movies, “Godzilla VS Megalon” and “Godzilla VS King Kong” the original version of it
In Godzilla VS Megalon (even though Godzilla is barely in the movie and it was mostly centred around a robot named Jet Jaguar) there’s a scene where Jet Jaguar holds Megalon in place while Godzilla performs a - in the words of Boomstick from Death Battle - EPIC GRAVITY DEFYING DROPKICK on Megalon, which was one of the most hilariously dumb things ever in a Godzilla movie
And in Godzilla VS King Kong, there’s a scene where King Kong grabs a tree and forces it down Godzilla’s mouth
"You couldn't measure up to the Shin of Godzilla."
A reference to the movie "Shin Godzilla". While also pointing out that KK is supposed to be much shorter than GZ
I've always loved ERB and their attention to details on every battle. I got Godzilla taking this one in a close one
Godzilla opens up with "From the depths of the sea, it's the king of the monsters"
That's quoted from Snoop Dogg's Who Am I/What's My Name: "From the depths of the sea, back to the block"
Kong catches this and responds with "Don't you quote Snoop to me, I'm as old as Death Row"
Death row was first established in 1933 and the first King Kong movie was released in 1933. Death Row is also the record label that Snoop Dogg signed onto.
"Reppin' RKO": RKO nowadays refers to the WWE wrestler Randy Orton, but he's talking about RKO Pictures, the film company that released the first King Kong movie in 1933 (going back to the "old as Death Row" bit)
Plus with a Snoop quote of his own: "We don't love them ToHo's"
That's quoted from Snoop Dogg's Gin & Juice: "We don't love them hoes"
@crypttherapper The Ferris Bueller reference was that the Godzilla movie he was talking about starred Matthew Broderick as the scientist sent to discover Godzilla and what happened.
Loving it so far.
Super happy for you with the wedding, but your knowledge of Goji movies is definitely rough. Fun stuff though! Glad you enjoy this stuff too!
Godzilla has the sickest starting lines in a battle I’ve heard in a long time
Let’s go a new Crypt video!!!
Congratz on the engagement! Hope the wedding goes well!
i love watching ERB, But i love watching you react to ERB way more its amazing. Wish they made more videos just so i could watch you react them
Damn good reaction video. Love ya..I will be going to see them June 26th in Birmingham UK as it is only an hour from where I live
Damn I haven't watched your videos since you were a much smaller channel. You got over a Milly now bro! That's wassup!
Bryan Cranston starred in the modern reboot of Hollywood-monster movies & he was in Godzilla (2014, I think). He was fresh off Breaking Bad fame so I was psyched to see he was gonna be on that movie… but he died in the 1st Act. Upsetting due to how heavy the trailers used him.
Congrats to you and your Cryptette!
I haven't watched them in a bit but this was an amazing song to come back to. This was EEEPPPPIICCCCC
Pompeii was destroyed by Godzilla in that comic where he pulled a kratos killing the Greek gods.
Love this ERB! oh and first comment let’s go!! Hope this gets a kabillion likes 😅 but I never watched any of the Godzilla’s in the 80s to the 90s but I did watch King Kong where with the empire state etc, but I have watched the newer godzilla the 2014, Godzilla King of the monsters, Godzilla vs Kong then can’t wait to see the new one coming out Godzilla x Kong The new empire.. I was kinda sad that they didn’t have a bar or a reference to Rodan (I think that’s how it’s spelt) because I know they had that in one of the godzillas etc and I love at the end but where Godzilla came out the water and a little shoutout to the Mecha-Godzilla behind him but over all I love how you broken all these bars and punchlines.. and i lost it when you did that little tiny arm recreation 😂😂 love ya brother crypt I enjoy these videos a lot!
I think it was "Fuck you and the balloons you rode in (Rodan) on!"
Bro, it's worth watching Knox's reaction to this for some of the references. For instance, the Oxygen Destroyer was also a weapon used to defeat Godzilla in one of his movies.
Seems like no one caught the Bridges bar that Godzilla spit. Not only is he LITERALLY bigger than bridges, but it's a DOUBLE reference to Jeff Bridges, as he was Jack Prescott in the '76 Kong movie, AND it's a callback to Iron Man 1, where he played Obadiah Stane, aka Iron Monger, AND it's a callback to Thor, with the Bifrost, aka the "Rainbow Bridge."
Dude I'd lose my mind if you got to be in an ERB. Heres hoping 🤞
Sharing this moment with you before knox hill 😊
"I'll make an ass out of you like Nintendo did" DONKEY kong. What's another word for donkey? BAR
the Ferris Beuler line refers to the 1998 movie Godzilla which starred Matthew Broderick
One thing that I would recommend is to wait for each side to finish their section and then to go back and analyze it for refrences. That way you can hear it with its original flow
I hope you get to be in an ERB’!congrats on your marriage! Great reaction!
Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller) was in a Godzilla movie in 1998. There was a easter egg at the end of the credits of a Godzilla egg that ether hatches or starts to hatch (I can't remember which).
Bryan Cranston was in a Godzilla movie in 2014.
Tenacious D is Jack Black's band, they just have a movie too
I love seeing reactors using headphones that I know from Dankpods' videos
The oxygen destroyer and 0-2 bar is so satisfying 👌
Godzilla's first line was a Snoop Dogg reference "From the depths of the sea" is the first line is Snoop's song "Who am I"
10:16 The bar about Bryan Cranston i think was a reference to the 2014 Godzilla movie featuring Cranston, who was all over the marketing for that movie but died in the first act of it
Ferris Bueller was Matthew Broderick and he was in Ronald Emmerich’s Godzilla in 1998
Petition for Crypt on ERB as Henry the VIII
THe 8:00, the Ferru Bueller reference is because the actor that played him, Matthew Brodrick played in the 98 film that was roasted to oblivion by Godzilla fans.
Brian Crankston being dead since the first act is a reference to the 2014 Godzilla movie where Crankston's character dies early
dude they really did their homework with this one, that double bass reference is actually insane
Crypt, your videos are fantastic. All the best in your married life ❤
"From the Depths of the Sea" Godzilla's opening line.
"Don't Quote Snoop on me" says King Kong.
I've watched alot of reactions still surprised no one catches that Sea G double like CG.
Matthew Broderick started in the Godzilla movie in the 90’s. He is also Ferris Bueler
"I know I'm pausing so much I'm sorry"
Dude that's literally why I clicked on your video
I love these guys too I’ve been watching them since master chief vs Leonidas
Congrats on the wedding crypt and you missed the RKO line
U missed the Godzilla and he said prey to me. Like Godzilla praying to him
Matthew Brodrick played ferris bueller, and he was in the Godzilla movie that came out in 98 I think was the year.
"Here's your sign" also references a running bit by comedian Bill Engvall. The bit is that he wishes stupid people had signs to identify themselves. So he'll tell a story of someone doing something stupid and end it with "here's your sign".
Congrats on you being wed!
Mathew Broderick fought Godzilla in the 1998 adaptation that's where the Bueller line came from
Bro. You NEED an appearance on their channel. Petition now😩
Hey crypt? Instead of using your mouse to pause RUclips just press the letter K on your keyboard. Press it again to unpause.
You seem to be missing your pauses and having to double click cause the computer or laptops not registering it.
It's noticeable on our end so just use the letter K.
The thunder bar reminds me of the erp Zeus vs Thor. "thunder down under nailing Natalie Portman" 😂
Matthew Broderick was in that crappy 1998 Godzilla movie where the concept was godzilla laying a shit load of eggs and they hatch
"You aren't even the bombest monster from the Sea G, Who's Kraken?" and "the beast who the beast from 20,000 fathoms couldn't fathom" are likely both references for the movie version of 20,000 Leagues under the Sea that was released the same year as the original Godzilla.
First line from how the Giant Squid from the movie became the gold standard for monster special effects until Jurassic Park as Godzilla became infamous for it's cheesiness. The later because I'm assuming Godzilla fought a giant squid at some point(?)
That Godzilla is saying "fathoms" instead of "leagues" is also a nod to how most people think the leagues are talking about depth (which is what fathoms measure) rather than distance traveled (which is what the title is actually talking about.)
Oh dude..
7:26 - The Ferris Bueller bit was because the Hollywood Godzilla from 1998, Matthew Broderick (the guy who played Ferris) was the main character, its widely considered the worst one
10:17 - the Bryan Cranston bit is from the 2014 Godzilla movie, where the movie was basically billed on his name as he just came off of making Breaking Bad, then they killed him in the first act.
I love how while ERB has been doing this FOREVER, they're just as sharp now as they've ever been. Still waiting on Vader V Hitler 4 though.
Much love Crypt!
Here's your sign is a Bill Engval comedy reference also.
Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller) was in one of the Godzilla movies I believe
Bryan Cranston was also in a recent Godzilla movie..
So the 98 reference is to the ferrus bullers movie godzilla where eggs were laid at the end if the movie
Matthew Broderick was ferris bueller and in the '99 Godzilla movie Godzilla also laid eggs in that one, Bryan Cranston was in the first movie of the newest Godzilla movie trilogy
The Bryan Cranston line is about how his character died in the 1st act of the 2014 Godzilla movie
Hehe. The fire back of Kong's opening Nintendo rebuttal with "The only game I play is Rampage, Lizzy" Refers to the Arcade game called Rampage. Where you destroy stuff as vaguely familiar monsters that have different names .The "Godzilla" character was called Lizzie. Course the "Kong" like character was called "George" soooo....
I loved the rap battle
To explain the “pregnant” thing and the Ferris Buller reference, there was a bad rendition of Godzilla made in America in 1998 starring the actor from Ferris Buller’s day off. In that movie Godzilla looked more like a T-Rex than his traditional look and like some amphibians was able to impregnate itself.
Not technically a spoiler since its revealed in less than 30 minutes, but in the first episode of Breaking Bad, Walter White (Bryan Cranston) receives a cancer diagnosis
The hardest bar I havnt seen anyone comment on or point out is when Kong says in his first turn that he is “the 8th wonder of the world AND the word when I rhyme”
The 8th word that he rhymes is when he says “the word.” He is calling himself “the word”, or as many people would say, “God”
Kong’s rhymes in order
1. “Pretty” (rhymes with “Lizze”)
2. “Arms” (rhymes with “bars”)
3. “Barkley” (rhymes with “movie”)
4. “Fuji” (rhymes with “movie” and “Barkley”)
5. “Health” (rhymes with “yourself”
6. “RKO” (rhymes with “death row”)
7. “ToHo’s” (rhymes with “RKO” and “death row”)
8. “The word” (rhymes with “the world”)
Crypt you need to react to XG tapes 1,2, 3-A and 3-B you’ll enjoy diving down that rabbit hole!
In 1998 there was a Godzilla movie with Matthew Broderick in it (It was essentially his plan that killed godzilla), Broderick was also Ferris Bueller. Also in the 1998 Godzilla the creature laid thousands of egg in madison Square garden, which were destroyed by Fighters
Some of the bars you missunterstood:
The 2005 King Kong remake, directed by Peter Jackson, stars Jack Black.
The 1998 Godzilla, stars Matthew Broderick, who played Ferris Bueller.
The 2014 Godzilla, stars Brian Cranston. His character dies in the first act of the movie.
You missed a lot of references from the '98 movie. Actor was Ferris Bueller and he/she/it laid a bunch of eggs at the end.
You missed the Frankenstein bar. If you see this, ask me. I give it to Kong in a very close one.
Brian Cranston was in the first godzilla movie. He was a big part of the advertisement for the movie, then dies in the first act of the movie
So when it comes to Godzilla the 1998 Godzilla movie had Godzilla give birth to babies. There are also over 30+ Godzilla movies with the most recent being Godzilla Minus 1. One of the bars that may have been overlooked was the Kaiju Haiku. Tokusatsu is the concept of dressing humans up in rubber monster suits
Mathew Broderick played Farris Bueller and Mathew Broderick was the main star in the 1998 Godzilla.
The oxygen destroyer has another reference. I forget which movie but in one of the Godzilla movies the scientists made an oxygen destroyer inside the sea so when Godzilla returned they would basically drown him and it was successful.
You a real one
Godzilla has had a child several times. The first one was manilla that Godzilla mentions in his second verse. The second was Junior who took over as king of the monsters after Godzilla died in Godzilla vs Destoroyah.
il be honest, If not for you, i would have never ever think of less than half the stuff you said xD thank you
That "Here comes the airplane" bar was disrespectful as hell 😂
The pregnancy line is about how Godzilla reproduces asexually (Minilla was referenced earlier in the rap, and is the son of Godzilla; there's also Godzilla Jr, the offspring of Zilla in 98, and the tail growths from Shin Godzilla in 2016, all of which are either explicitly asexual or are never implied to have been made with a mate), but Kong flipping it around to poke fun at the idea of Godzilla being pregnant as an ironic event because of his suit being made of rubber like a condom.
