Fun Fact: Godzilla has two brains, one in his skull where it should be, and the other is in his ass (technically it’s where his tail meets his torso, but same difference really)
I thought that was one of the deepest cuts in the whole battle.
As a bonafide Godzilla junkie (complete with $2k in Godzilla tattoos), the references in this battle were absolutely not the casual, wiki-researched material I was expecting. There were some DEEP cuts. The “ass-brain” line was a reference to Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2 where they tried to kill him by destroying a secondary brain in the lower spine. The “you didn’t get cooler in the 90’s” was partly a reference to the ‘98 film (as evidenced by the Ferris Bueller bar) but was ALSO a reference to Godzilla vs Destoroyah in ‘94 where he died by melting down (supported by the “destroy ya” line). The “recycled crap like All Monsters Attack” might have been the deepest cut though. Also called “Godzilla’s Revenge”, it was probably the weakest entry because of Minilla but ALSO because of the heavy use of stock footage. This battle was 100% written by another lifelong Godzilla fan, there’s no doubt in my mind.
Dont forget the oxygen destroyer, the name of the weapon that killed Godzilla in his first movie :D

Everybody overlooks how Kong shot himself in the foot with that "only beauty kills this beast." Just means he feeds into Godzilla's simpanzee line.
No so sure about that. It is true Kong wants some companionship because it's normally accepted (depending on the reboot universe) he's the last of his line. Godzilla at best had some begrudgingly respectful allies, I wouldn't call them friends. And to be fair, those actresses over the years they used are good looking.

"here's your sign" is a reference to Bill Engvall's comedy routine where he gets stuck talking to stupid people and thinks they should have a sign around their neck that says "I'm stupid" so you know what you're getting into before you start talking to them, and then provides examples of such interactions, ending with "here's your sign"
Plus at least one gorilla in captivity has been known to learn sign language and communicate in it.

The "I'll make an ass out of you like Nintendo did" bar is a reference to Universal's Lawsuit against Nintendo over Donkey Kong (because they wrongfully assumed they owned the rights to King Kong), which Nintendo thoroughly embarrassed them over and won.

The "They left your balls on the cutting room floor" bar is a reference to the RUclipsr Goji Center's video "Do Godzilla and Kong have balls?" that a meme spawned from ("No Dick, No Balls, and probably no butthole either since this guy feeds on radiation")
The "You're the only Honda Vehicle that don't retain no worth" bar is a reference to Ishiro Honda, the director of the first Godzilla film in 1954 (as well as many others throughout the 60's and 70's)...and also yes, Honda cars lol.
And finally, "And just like Bryan Cranston you've been dead since the first act" is a reference to Godzilla (2014), where...yeah Bryan Cranston played a character named Joe Brody and he died in the first act despite being heavily featured in the ad campaign for that movie to get asses in seats.

Minilla is one of Godzilla's offspring. (Also the "destroy ya" line is a reference to one of Godzilla's enemies Destoroyah.) And Donkey Kong is inspired by King Kong and another word for donkey is ass. So by changing the name King Kong to Donkey Kong, Nintendo figuratively made an ass out of King Kong.
Also they came up with the name "Donkey Kong" because the concept they were going for was "dumb monkey"

I think it's more a reference to how gutted the og movie was, as it made it clear that the atomic bombings caused godzilla to exist, but the american version removed that because...well, duh
The Nintendo bar was in reference to how Universal tried to sue Nintendo due to the character Donkey Kong, because Universal felt they owned the name "Kong" or something like that. And not only did they lose the lawsuit against Nintendo, they ended up having to pay a large sum of money to Nintendo in the end.
The whole "Hollywood left your balls on the cutting room floor." could have two meanings. The first being that in the Japanese films, they made no effort to hide the fact that Godzilla was a product of nuclear war, mainly when the US bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Though in the American made movie of 1998, they rather downplayed that detail...like they didn't have the balls to call themselves out in such a way. Though, also in that movie, they made Godzilla a female that could reproduce asexually and one of the whole points of the movie was Godzilla came to the city to find a safe place to lay her eggs.
With Pacific Rim, the first movie did rather well but most people would agree that Pacific Rim 2 was a massive flop that failed hard.
Minilla (Mini Godzilla) was the name of Godzilla's baby/son he had in one of the earlier Japanese films.

For the Brian Cranston line, In the Godzilla remake, probably one of the biggest named actors in the movie was Brian Cranston and they killed him off early on in the first act of the movie after making it seem like he was going to have a much bigger role.
"I'll make an ass out of you like Nintendo did" is actually a reference to a court case Between Nintendo and King Kong's owner. You see when Nintendo first released the Donkey Kong arcade game, Universal Studios (King Kong's "owners") tried to sue Nintendo for copyright infringement on King Kong's name. Not only did Nintendo win the lawsuit, but they also showed that King Kong was in public domain, meaning that Universal never owned King Kong in the first place. It was so bad that even the Judge for the case questioned Universal on why they thought the lawsuit was a good idea. The verse is Godzilla basically saying that King Kong is such a joke that Nintendo made him their bitch, crazy verse of Godzilla's part Fr🔥🔥

Also, next to the haiku my favorite line would be the Ghidorah one, because he wasn't just talking about triple digits, he was actually saying in triplets, bc he switched his flow to triplets for that section, since Ghidorah has three heads

The "monster verse" part is a reference to the warner Bros and Legendary studios kaiju Cinematic universe which is called the monsterverse.
I loved the 98 movie so much as well. But i think the major issue was that it was a Godzilla movie. Had it been a generic monster movie it might have been received better.

Godzilla was inspired by the bomb, but specifically the Castle Bravo disaster, where we treated our first h-bomb on an island in the pacific and ended up irradiating some Japanese fishing vessel who hadn't been told they were in the fallout zone. Godzilla was literally a metaphor, and then in the US they completely cut that out because it was "anti American." Kyle Hill has an incredible video on the castle bravo disaster.
Such a great battle they pulled out references of the references will help to explain some of them. First off the line "the mammal help raise you up" is reference to king kong vs godzilla 1962. After Godzilla 1954 and godzilla raids again 1955 they just stopped making godzilla movies until the pitch of having the two titans clash king kong and godzilla. Which led to godzilla making more movies after the success of the film. Minilla is godzilla kid which is a child which led to godzilla being more friendly then evil monster of the early films. Which is why king kong made a reference "how could you make a kid if your suit is made of rubber". The Bryan Cranston line is reference to Godzilla 2014 the best actor of the film just to die in the first act which made the film drop in quality. Also love that they showed king kong on the ballons show how king kong vs godzilla 1962 a way to transport king kong to godzilla and king kong use a tree on godzilla throat. That's everything so far there might be more but great reaction.

The balls left on the cutting room floor is based on the US removing all references of US atomic testing making Godzilla. & making Godzilla lay eggs in that one movie.
More lines backfire on Kong than Godzilla. Godzilla tagging in for Frankenstein was from King Kong vs Godzilla '62. It was Toho's 10th anniversary & thought King Kong vs Frankenstein wouldn't be big enough. Result: Godzilla is now the longest running franchise in cinema history. Kong tried to come back, but Universal AGAIN messed that up for themselves. Currently, the MonsterVerse can use Kong so long as they do not refer to him as King Kong. The Godzilla Anime (Films & Series) did better than Kong's. AND Godzilla latest solo feature (Minus One) is considered one of the best films ever made, period.

The "Balls on the Cutting Room Floor" line is because they made Godzilla female in the 90s movie and laid eggs when his gender's always been ambiguous (Though we refer to Godzilla as he) in all other movies.
It's also a reference to how the anti nuclear war aspect is downplayed in the U.S. films.
2014 for example was going to heavily play into that element, but the military threatened them so we ended up getting a neutered version of the film.
I would love to see a King Kong movie where Kong and Anne Dawn Darrow become a couple.

Well Kong came first in '33, and since then he's had a movie just about him, a Japanese solo movie in 1967 where he fought Mechani-Kong, a remake to the 1933 one in '76 that is just about him, another two remakes in 1998 and 2005 also just about him then the same thing in 2017. The only non-solo movies he's had are King Kong vs. Godzilla and Godzilla vs. Kong (also the new one coming out this year), where Kong himself helped boost sales frankly.
Meanwhile Godzilla's had movies with lots of other popular monsters featured in the titles (as 'versus' movies) and posters: Anguirus, Mothra (multiple times), Rodan, Jet Jaguar, Megalon, Gigan, Titanosaurus, King Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla, Destoroyah, Megaguirus... the list goes on. Kong has had more solo films overall, but he also hasn't been milked anywhere near as much as Godzilla lol

I have listened to this song a bunch since it came out and prob 6 different reactions and NOBODY (myself included) made the band Gojira (who I listen to) connection and as soon as you did I had to pause and walk away with a face palm because of what you said about their “monster verses” but also, they founded the band with the name Godzilla originally. Ok. It’s official. I thought it was another Hitler/Vader story set up but now I know it has to be. Can’t wait for Godzilla Kong 2. There is enough left unsaid for it, maybe not a 3rd but they HELLA SMART, if anyone can make it 3 it’s them. OH WAIT! How many movie incarnations of this battle was there? Without question, due to Godzilla having more worldly prominence, Godzilla will have the most solo outings and Kong's solo films are seldom a success.

King Kong vs Godzilla is the 3rd in the series, the first Godzilla movie in color and essentially jump-started the franchise as we know it by setting the tone for the series up until the first reboot in 1983. And after Godzilla: King of The Monsters (2019) did sub-optimally, Godzilla vs Kong brought the Monsterverse back from the brink of cancellation by outperforming the other films in the franchise once again. So Kong's line about nursing films back to health does have some weight to it, Kong was there before Godzilla and he's been there for Godzilla twice now in two extremely pivotal moments in the franchise's history.
Although I think you could argue the Monsterverse movies were what got Kong back into the limelight.
