    This boss fight is so funny from a narrative perspective because there is zero time elapsed between Metroid 2 and Metroid 3.
    Samus finds the baby in research colony Ceres. Suddenly the baby is lifted into the air. It's Ridley!!!

      I think the hardest Boss in Metroid Franchise is Nightmare from Metroid Fusion.
      I dont know how long it took me to beat him. I mean he fucks up gravity, before you even have the Gravity Suit, rendering your Missiles nearly useless while they are your only reliable damage tool against him.
      He just constantly floats arround uncontrollably, while you're stuck with slowed movement trying to ram you, except when you cling to the wall and "face him head to head" for a shootout vs his lazors.
      Charged Plasma Beam damages him too, but reeeeally slow and he eats a shitton of dmg before he melts down.

    This is how you do a fucking boss fight. In game cutscenes that dont over stay there welcome. A boss who changes up his style of attack. Not a bullet sponge but tanky enough to feel like a real fight. A feeling of being evenly matched and showing this rivalry not with words but how brutal both characters kick the shit out of eachother and the body language during the fight. This fight alone made this game go from like 7-10 to 8-10 for me.

      The lighting, music and atmosphere are some of the best the series has ever had (I love the tornado in the background), and it does a great job of giving Samus and the baby Metroid a stronger bond. My only problem with it is that it lasts too fucking long. Made the Queen Metroid almost seem like a pushover in comparison.

    • @Sparks7907
      @Sparks7907 7 лет назад +6

      Toa Matoro That is a legit fault with the game it dosnt really have bosses when you think of it. The metriods are more puzzles once you figure it out it's pree easy considering you run into the same ones again and again. However the Chozo robot and Ridley are really well done. If they can pull this off with all the bosses in that hinted at fusion remake we could have a contender with super and zero mission. For the length of the fights I feel it's fine considering they feel like they change as they go makes it feel fresh. Also helps sell that this is a big moment feel. To each there own tho I could see how it's length could be considered a problem to some.

  • @D0OMZ4
    @D0OMZ4 Год назад +30

    What I loved about this, is that it kinda adds to the Metroid’s love for Samus.
    Not only did it perceive Samus as its mother due to hatching right next to her, Samus also put her life on the line like a real mother would for her child.
    I like to think that this is why the Metroid had such strong feelings towards Samus in Super, recognizing her through its rage.

  • @MyGamer125
    @MyGamer125 2 года назад +111

    I like how protective Samus is of the baby Metroid (which apparently everyone calls Squishy). Like she felt guilty for actually wiping out an entire species, and sees this as her opportunity to redeem them, and have them be used for good. Maybe it was her connection to the Chozo. But if Mercury Steam ever makes a remake of Super Metroid (and they should), I hope they show just how pissed off Samus got when Squishy died

    • @JacobNintendoNerd99
      @JacobNintendoNerd99 7 лет назад +165

      It foreshadows the Mother Brain fight from Super Metroid most prominently, a situation where Samus fights a larger foe and is assisted by the hatchling draining the enemy. It makes the mother brain fight into an echo of the climax of the previous chronological game. It also sets up the intro to Super itself, since it causes Ridley appearing at Ceres to become much more personal- Samus just humiliated Ridley on SR388 a few hours ago, so now Ridley is retaliating by ambushing Samus and taking something he knows she cares about from her.
      However, it also foreshadows the adolescent Ridley fight in other m at one point when Ridley clasps his hand over Samus and pins her down, which is the exact same thing the adolescent Ridley clone does to Samus in other m, and Samus fends Ridley off in that instance until anthony blasts Ridley with a Plasma beam- much like the baby metroid knocks him off of Samus here, as well. It also sets up the idea of Ridley playing dead to fool Samus more clearly, rather than it just being something implied to have happened between Zero Mission and Prime 1; Ridley fakes his death here, in Samus Returns, and we see he's still alive and well from the post credits scene, having cast off his Meta Ridley implants that remained, become fully organic, and pursued Samus to Ceres immediately.
      Finally, it establishes Ridley had cybernetic implants and has the Prime 3 Meta Ridley armor which you can see in the unlockable Smash Bros Samus concept art gallery thing (which shows Ridley's armor is indeed silver, meaning it's just reflecting the green storm ingame and explains why the armor is silver in the post credits scene), but just partially removed from him. That alone insinuates he did in fact escape from the Urtragia Leviathan, like people have speculated for years since you can see what is potentially Ridley's shadow zip directly above Samus when the camera pans away, and that therefore Samus Returns is set chronologically after Prime 3 once and for all.
      Prime Trilogy has been canon, yea, but there were way too many idiots saying it wasn't, so hopefully this will stuff a sock in them finally.

      Jacob Heward
      I never really thought about the mother brain thing but it seems so obvious. But yeah I like how it makes his appearance at the start of Super Metroid make sense. He probably followed her there right after this fight.
      It also gives Samus an actual reason to care about the Baby Metroid (but other m is still ridiculous imo)
      Where is this post credits scene of Ridley still being alive ? I must have missed that I only saw the scene with the X parasite

    Clever on Nintendo's part to throw Ridley in this game as the true final boss. Nice way to trick old time players of Metroid 2 and to separate itself from AM2R. I also find it a nice way to connect it to Super Metroid in how the Baby helps attacks and absorbs some of the enemy's energy.

      Ridley shedding his implants is actually a brilliant foresight to the start of Super Metroid. Since the game is set several hours after Samus Returns, Ridley is still very weak in the Ceres Space Colony. Since he got his ass handed to him in SR388, it's a valid reason why Samus can easily damage him with the Power Beam.

    • @Eva-uw6uo
      @Eva-uw6uo 3 года назад +3

      @@Nyxael5845 ultra late, but considering that Ridley can supposedly regenerate, and the Prime Trilogy takes place between Zero Mission and Samus Returns (or 1 and 2 if you prefer) then basically this is the halfway point between Meta Ridley and Ridley. After this he was probably beat up but well enough to consume enough biomass (aka parents) to regenerate himself completely. Plus even though it's called a replica in his likeness, I like to think his brain's floating around in Robot Ridley.
      So Ridley went from being healthy to getting his ass kicked so hard he became mostly mechanical to being Ridley with prostetic limbs to being Ridley again. Such an inspiring comeback story, right before Samus fucked up his shit again and he was eaten by X Parasites.
      As all happy endings go~

    I think I’m in the minority in the sense that I feel like I will never grow tired of Ridley. He’s like the Bowser/Ganondorf of Metroid. Other villains may take the spotlight on occasion, but there’s something about him that I just always want to see more of. He’s unique. Part of that is how different he is in-game versus in lore. The lore that he’s a hyperintelligent military commander adds so much more depth to him than the ferocious monster you see in-game. They complement each other. Normally a villain would feel overpowered having both strengths and smarts like him, but it never comes off that way since you only see one of those sides of him in the games.
    Also, I feel like his sheer animalistic ferocity is unmatched as a villain, ESPECIALLY a recurring villain. Normally, villains like him are one-and-done. But his intelligence allows him to keep coming back in new ways.
    As for how he keeps coming back, my headcanon is that they’ve uploaded his consciousness into a computer. That way, every time he dies, they can use dna samples to clone a new body for him and implant his consciousness into that new body. They never have more than one exist at a time though, since they are prone to shredding each other to pieces to assert dominance.

    • @mattshinde3614

      Not to defend that OOC moment, but keep in mind that Ridley's actual, canon, 100%-he's-gone-for-good (clones notwithstanding) death was in Super Metroid, which takes place after Metroid 2/Samus Returns. It's a bit nebulous as to what's different about that death from other deaths, but it seems that the general idea is that Samus actually takes the time to literally blow Ridley apart (represented by him literally falling to pieces instead of just disappearing when he's beaten) before leaving him on a planet that LITERALLY EXPLODES - a demise so final that not even Ridley could survive it.
      Aaaaand then he comes right back in Other M, bigger and uglier than ever (as a clone, mind you, but still). At that point, I think Samus is honestly wondering if he's legit immortal - and, if you assume Ridley's as sadistic and intelligent as the manga and other supplementary material indicates (and also remembers Samus from his original self's genetic memory), he would absolutely take the time to rub it in and play up his apparent unkillability for all it's worth.

I like how he mostly looks like his normal/non cyborg self we see in Zero Mission/Super but with enough asymmetrical armor and gear that it makes it look as if he’s wearing some standard issue space pirate battle harness. Makes him feel a little more connected to the group he himself co-leads.

      Phase 1 and 2, just use all your aeion energy (beam burst and the green shield) cause at the end ridley only replenish it, at phase 3 super missiles, keep the green shield and keep an eye on the counter timing after squishy attack. Maybe is not to much help but it is what it is... i mean is a really hard boss, tru to collect all super missiles you can

    To add a little context:
    Samus has just rendered the Metroids extinct, save for the one larva she spared after it seemingly bonded with her
    Even before this game, Samus was already renowned across the galaxy as the foremost expert when it came to killing Metroids
    The Ultimate Hunter for the Ultimate Predator
    And now, they finds themselves fighting together against Ridley; the greatest, most persistent enemy of Samus, infamously known as the Cunning God of Death
    The circumstances leading to this fight are nothing short of unique

    The best part about this game is that Proteus Ridley and Aeion energy made other m non-canon.

    • @Kwev
      @Kwev  3 года назад

      How so ?

    • @BeeWaifu
      @BeeWaifu 3 года назад

      @@Kwev Proteus Ridley means that Metroid Prime is canon, which contradicts the statement made saying that they weren't and that other m was. Furthermore, aeion energy is necessary for a queen to be made (as well as the rest of the basic Metroid family tree). In Fusion the omega metroid (and subsequently every other stage before it that we see in Vats in the background of area X) are made possible because Sector 1 was painstakingly crafted to resemble SR388 almost identically, implying they took chunks of the planet to recreate the environment.
      The queen metroid in other m is, therefore, impossible under normal circumstances.

    • @Kwev
      @Kwev  3 года назад

      @@BeeWaifu There's a lot of urban legends based on mistranslation in your assumptions. First, Sakomoto never said Prime game were not canon, he said that he doesn't think too much about them when he makes a new game, because it's Tanabe's job.
      As for everything related to Other M plot, the game had one of the worst localization ever made. You might be interested in watching a video called "The Other M that never was" on RUclips. It's really enlighting !
