Love your well researched topical videos
Love this video and how you present the information! 🧐💡🔖📖
I assumed it was related to the disease Dr. Sacks treated, but wasn't sure until you researched it! Thank you!
I love Neil Gaiman's writing, though I haven't yet seen Sandman. Thanks for this video. I love your detailed research. As always, keep up the good work.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Well, now I need to check out the Sandman series.
Thank you for introducing such an interesting topic. Sleeping sickness is a scary condition that I'm glad we don't have an outbreak of *knocks on wood*
*knocks on wood vigorously*
FINALLY (no hate. I’ve just been waiting for something like this 😂)
This was a fun rabbit hole, thank you. My favorite Sandman comic is the one with the Shakespeare story.
There was a show about a decade or two ago on CBC Radio One's "Ideas". For their April Fool hour they invented a sleeping sickness that imitated death - people wouldn't wake up until they were buried. This, supposedly, started a tradition of laying the newly dead to rest with a bottle of poison tied to their little finger. Brilliant stuff. And I was convinced you were headed down the same road. Until you got to L-Dopa and then second & third year psychology biochemistry courses came flooding back to me. Remarkable stuff. Thank you for reminding me.

thank you for sharing, this was very interesting! i watched it with my sister (bc we both like the sandman show & comics) and she is insisting that i point out the fact that dr. von economo’s first name is similar to john constantine’s name. i doubt this was an intentional similarity considering that neil gaiman didn’t create that character, BUT it’s still interesting :) we enjoyed the video!
Very interesting, I hadn't considered that!
