I think a big mistake people make is not getting the players cards at hotels if they're going to do any type of gambling. This is the best way to get rated, comps, etc... If you get high enough rating they'll waive the resort fees, valet fees, etc... Great video Norma, always love watching your vlogs and tips and tricks videos. Someday I'd love to meet up and collab with ya! Take care!

Thank you so much for pointing out the tip about being nice to staff (even when things go wrong). I can say first hand that this tip came in handy for us a week ago when we had issues at Luxor with our room not getting cool. While the end result was us having to move over to Horseshoe at midnight and having to check out and reschedule/replan a lot of our planned content on a whim, I cannot say anything bad about the staff at Luxor and how well they handled it, and how willing they were to work with us just because we were calm and worked with them to try to get the matter resolved.
As someone who works in hospitality, this tip really hit home and staff is always more willing to work with you when you are calm. So many great tips in this one.

@@larrybudsock6507 I agree... but there were no rooms at all. The MGM app literally had everything but Vdara listed as sold out when James checked it. Which prompted me to then pull up my Caesars app and look for available options.
But circling back to Norma's topic of the video, be nice to staff - We didn't yell at the person at the desk when this happened nor did we demand, we explained the issue, asked them about solutions to it, allowed them to provide said solution (bringing a fan up, doubling our dining credit, and checking the AC), and then when said solution did not work, we went back down and worked with the staff to find a workable solution which was them releasing us from the room and us going elsewhere.

The biggest mistake is not having some plans. Have a few restaurant reservations and maybe a show or two. Then I have a list of things that you want to do but not on a certain day or time. That way there's always something to do when you have lost your gambling budget for the day. So your not tempted to chase your losses.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! For mentioning the crosswalk in front of Paris!!!! It is BY FAR the worst crosswalk issue I've dealt with anywhere. I use it daily and nearly see someone's death DAILY. The city or county or both NEEDS TO completely remove the middle section where people stand and rework that whole intersection to fix the issue. The lights are TOTALLY mistimed with how long it takes people to cross. I remember from one of your F1 videos last year you had a close call in that exact spot! My HOPE is that when Bellagio's expansion is being done they retool that area to make it as close to a true 4-Way intersection as possible.

Looking beautiful as always Norma, 😍 I love your grey top! To get from the airport to the strip, I usually use public transit! It is not obvious where the buses are, though! They need to put better signage. But, basically, when you get out of the gate, you want to keep going straight all the way to the other side of the airport, then go down to the bottom level, and when you go outside, go to the right, and you should see a few public transit buses parked there. In other airports there's usually signs that say "ground transportation" and then "public transportation this way" with an arrow...they need more of that at LAS! 🙂
Also, what would really help is to extend the monorail to the airport! 🙂 One downside of taking the bus, it does take longer, 40-60 minutes, versus 15 minutes in a cab, but it's a lot cheaper. 🙂

You are 100 percent right on with the jaywalking which is my biggest pet peeve when I get off the bus at RIP Tropicana Casino and bike/walk my way towards CityCenter for work. I just shake my head when hordes of people rush in to cross when the light is still palm red especially the crosswalk between Denny's and M&M store by Hard Rock Restaurant and MGM Resort area.

You are correct about the resort fees, however you can have them waived if you show that you have been spending in the properties associated with what ever brand you are staying with eg: MGM or Caesars
If you can "tier up" as I like to call it you can have those fees waived for your stay and you will also receive better bounce back offers from the company you were staying with....In this case always charge EVERYTHING back to you room to show your spending to the company and solely gamble at any of that companies properties

Great tips as always Norma. I'm from the east side of Canada and I do look forward to my Shakeshack burger and In-n-Out but I normally frame that with the more expensive eats so that I get the best of both worlds. As well there still are pretty good mid price places to eat if you know what you are looking for. One of your suggestions I always follow is check the temp before you fly. I've been there in 117f summer and 50f late fall with radical changes between day and night. Thanks as always for all you do.

Informative video, though I partially disagree on two items. First, I prefer to use a taxi over Uber to and from the airport, mainly for convenience. Uber pick up spots can be confusing to find, and they are often placed in inconvenient spots at the hotels, requiring a longer walk in the hot weather. With the fixed pricing in place, taxis are just faster and more convenient.
Secondly, it’s not only international travelers that haven’t visited certain fast food and chain restaurants. In-N-Out is primarily a west coast operation, and I can tell you where I live there is only McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC and Jack In the Box. You can bet when I fly to Las Vegas I will visit places like Raising Cane’s, Whataburger and Dairy Queen at least once. It allows me to try different things at lower prices.

I can't believe I didn't put two and two together about drunk driving in Vegas. In general I think a big mistake is to not be aware of your surroundings especially while on the strip. All the landmarks and sights are fun, but they're also distracting. Not only could you get hurt tripping over something or wandering into traffic, you also run the risk of pickpocketing if you aren't careful. Big fan of these videos, you've been a big help when it comes to prepping for my trip in the fall!!

Me and my daughter were there in March and had opposite experience at airport with taxis vs Uber. We tried to find Uber pick up but was not easy (granted, we are from smaller city in Canada but we saw no signs and trying to follow directions from others we did not do well at). We found the taxi pick up easy and it ended up being $7 less! We tried using uber once more day after and heck of a time again finding Uber pick up spot at the near-by hotel we had to go to and then it dropped us off in the Paris garage way at back. Taxi was much easier to use in our experience, and we enjoyed the deuce bus as well! 😊

It is to the best of my understanding illegal to sell the drinks from coolers on the strip. What the people will do is pick through the garbage for water bottles and then fill them in the resort bathrooms. When they hand them to you they will twist off the cap first. Also remember that glass bottles and cups are also illegal on the strip that is why the resorts have plastic cup stands by the doors to put your drink in before you walk out.

Regarding taxi or rideshare from the airport: we fly to Vegas 3-5 times a year. Rideshare IS usually cheaper BUT you have to walk further to pickup points in the garages and wait in a longer line most of the time. You can generally walk straight out from baggage claim and get right into a cab or maybe have only 1 or 2 people ahead of you. For us time is more important than saving $5 or $10 so to your point, yes it’s the start of your trip and we like to get it rolling quickly LOL

Some go above and beyond And deserve to be rewarded. And if you want a basic experience then don't tip. But a couple bucks have helped me a lot. Cut 30 minute lines for buffets for a couple bucks. Valet has left my car right out front and still brought it a couple feet to me so I don't have to wait. I was standing in the middle of the Bellagio buffet and I finished my juice and a worker asked to take my glass. I got a room upgrade to a 1 bedroom 3 bathroom suite at the Bellagio ON A COMP ROOM for a couple bucks. That got me a $1000 room. Got a free upgrade at the vdara from the 8th floor looking at the back of the Cosmo to the 52nd floor overlooking the Bellagio fountains for a couple bucks. Did the open bar on the high roller and the bartender was making everybody a drink at a time cause it was pretty full. Couple bucks and he gave my group of 6 multiple shots. Moved to better seats for free at a cirque show and you know those seats aren't cheap. I noticed this my second time in Vegas back in 2013. Pre uber. Was waiting in the long taxi line. I've cut 30 minutes lines at buffets for a couple bucks. Valets have left my car right out front so I didn't have to wait for a couple bucks. Moved to better seats at a cirque show for a couple bucks and you know they aren't cheap. Upgraded from the 8th floor to the 52nd floor at the vdara overlooking the bellagio fountains for a couple bucks. Did the open bar on the high roller and the bar tender was making 1 drink at a time cause it was pretty full. Gave him a couple bucks and he gave my group multiple shots. We got upgraded to a 1 bedroom, 3 bathroom spa suite at the Bellagio ON A COMP ROOM. that was a $1000 room for free. For a few bucks. You do with all of that as you will.

Glad you feel that way but it's not going to change. If people got paid more companies would just charge you more. @@joshuadrake1993

We usually bring some unique eatable goodies from home that people like and give them to the front desk personal and other people who help us along the way. It puts a smile on their face. 😊

I would add that people who don't visit Vegas often tends to drink alcohol way too much when they're in the city and they don't drink water. My first visit to Vegas, I got so dehydrated that I felt like crap the whole day and didn't get to do much on my first day in Vegas.

This is a great update to previous "do's and don'ts" videos you've done. Your videos are always extremely informative. You are such an asset to Las Vegas--and to anyone visiting (I will testify to that!). Thanks, Norma!!!

The biggest mistake would be to not watch this video and miss the great advice given by Norma. The production is top notch. great job Norma.
