Echidna basically wants him to keep dying over and over to learn everything about every possible route before reaching the perfect ending. There's a side story the author wrote about Subaru actually accepting the contract

it's always bothered me that that is only implied in the anime, that you need to really read between the lines and squint to come to that conclusion.

Echidnas voice actress nailed her 2 minute speech in one take, absolutely amazing talent!

I agree, Mishima Tensei is in the same boat for that. Both have ports who can be unbearably cringe at times, but gradually become better people

@@codysteele3499 I feel like MT and R:Z’s main protagonists are good in development but both shouldn’t be compared cuz they’re different. R:Z’s protag isn’t a sexual degenerate, for example.
@@ma.2089 That’s what makes Rudeus character development different, but in a way greater than Subaru’s. Rudy is starting at a much lower point than Subaru is in terms of character.
Rudeus at ep1 season1 of MT is very different from the Rudeus of the S2 finale that just aired this past Sunday.

Rem's best girl energy is so strong she gave Subaru the motivational speech he needed when she wasn't even THERE. Incredible. I liked that scene a lot when i first watched the episode, and I think it's really well-done character writing. They could have had the real Rem show up in a dream or something, but the fact that it wasn't really her kinda makes it more effective because it showed how much he internalized the motivation she gave him back in Episode 18.
It's funny, two of the Witches of Sin share seiyuu with Oregairu characters:
1.) Witch of Gluttony, Daphne = Yuigahama Yui
2) Witch of Sloth, Sekhmet = Yukinoshita Haruno
there's three actually. Minerva the witch of wrath...same voice as Totsuka Saika...
5:02 This "Unthinkable Past" basically happened after one Subaru's many deaths at the hand of Puck from season 1. If you remember, after RbD kills Emilia in one of the loops because Subaru revealed his ability to her, Puck goes on a rampage in his "Beast of the End" form and kills Petelgeuse and the cultists. After that he tells Subaru that he is going to destroy the entire world of Re Zero "in accordance with his contract with Emilia", even mentioning that his sole purpose for existence is Emilia. The loop ofc. ends there because Subaru dies, but the Second Trial in this instance shows what would have happened in that timeline after Subaru's death: Reinhard arrives at Roswaal Manor to stop Puck because he is currently trying to end it all.
Oh, in that case RIP Puck 😭
I love how many people reacting to the anime doubt Reinhard winning cause they don't know how OP he is and that Reinhard vs Puck isn't even a fight.

Echidna is basically telling Subaru to die over and over again, and experience all possible options, so that the greed of Echidna is satisfied. That's what she wants in the contract.
I forgot how many times he died in Greed IF, was it 10 millions?

in the end Echidna will get him to his happy ending but before that point she'll have him explore every option of what might happen if he makes a different choice. In Greed IF (alt story where he takes the deal) he has Elsa (who he hired) kill him to reset just so he can tell Petra what the weather will be later
Seeing those alternate realities where the other Characters are grieving over Subaru's Death fucked me up so bad when I first watched it. Man this show is so insanely Peak wtf
The author has written a couple of what if stories based on the seven sins about what would happen if Subaru made different choices like if he did decide to run away with Rem in season 1 (a lot of them have light novel spoilers though). The greed one is about if he accepted Echidna’s deal, and what she had him do is abuse RBD to make every possible choice until he found a future where everyone lives, but by the end of it, he was so used to dying that he’d kill himself over the most minor things like telling someone what the weather would be like later
And even worse, echidna was getting bored of him.

The death in arc 2 where Rem and Ram killed Subaru is actually longer in the novels. Rem and Ram say they acted to defend Roswaal, but Emilia notices Rem killed him in a way that was fueled by malice. When Roswaal defends her, Emilia ends up slapping Roswaal, and decides to return to the forest and leave the election. Roswaal then remarks that this wasn’t the way things were supposed to go.
Whether each present persists after Subaru’s death will remain unknown until later on in the series. Or at least until season 3!!
Yeah, this scene was so good in the novels since it shows just how angry Emilia was at Rem for what she did.

Without spoilers but this is the proof of Reinhard's power, he is able to defeat puck( the beast of end) with hitkill, and puck was destroying the entire world, this is reinhard for you: THE SAINT OF THE SWORD

This is the point where every reacter needs to co sider when they will read or watch a video on the "What-ifs" of Re: Zero. I believe most of the Sins habe a story of "What if Subaru said...yes." Greed, Sloth, Envy....that world becomes wholly a new place, if the man with RBD decides he wantsbto do things differently. Honestly, as much of a continuity slut as I am, What If stories are just the best, even if they make my stomach curdle or do somersaults.

echidna doesnt seem to have a sence of morality so the way i see it was that she wasnt intentionally being creepy in this scene, she probably didnt think subaru would react this way as hes been pretty on board so far, imo i still think echidna is one of the more benficial witches you just have to have a clear boundry with her
Echidna is a sociopath. She cares about others but she doesn’t empathize. So she doesn’t get why Subaru is upset, and she isn’t malicious.

Echidna is the most “mysterious” character in the show cuz everyone completely misunderstands her. She wanted to form a pact with him to get the most out of RBD, but also respects his decision if he decides against it. She has no malice and is simply curious, but her actions would hurt Subaru and she doesn’t realize it. If she does form a pact, she will eventually become bored of Subaru.
I wouldn't called her the "Most mysterious" since I find Pandora for example a way bigger mystery or Flugel but she is still quite an interesting character and a top tier waifu.
@@dai-f8u I say “‘most mysterious” cus nobody has it twisted that Pandora is a bad person. On the other hand we get ppl completely mistaking Echidna for being a good person rather than a morally neutral and dangerous person.
Ppl have waifu’d her, which is fine, but for some it’s under the wrong impression, completely falling for her lies. It’s even funnier when we realize that her lie includes her actual form. The anime “buffed” her, she’s supposed to be flat chested lol

I’m anime-only, but I think there’s a lot more to Echidna than we got a sense of this episode. I think the “true” her is something we haven’t really seen yet, and probably actually wanted Subaru to turn down that contract.

There is more to her than we saw in the anime but I think that is different than what you think. I don't want to tell spoilers but one her past is somewhat of a mystery in the sense that we know some things that she did but we don't know specifics and we know that her attitude to the witch of envy changed overtime but we don't know why etc...
You’re making excuses, and you really don’t have to. In the novels it’s pretty much stated she wanted Subaru to take the contract. But she respected his decision to refuse her. Her reasons for using him isn’t malicious as she genuinely would’ve helped him get the best ending, even tho it would’ve mentally destroyed him. She only cared about learning new things, and while she has some care for Subaru, it’s not enough to not exploit him, even if it’s not out of malice.
You’re correct in that there’s more to Echidna, both confirmed in and outside the anime.

So echidna didn't want to contact with subaru that why she use her evil smile for subaru. She is ok with it if subaru want to contact with him but she really doesn't want to do that.
She does want to do it, hence why she asked. I think you’ve misunderstood the “after party” scene. She 100% wants Subaru to join with her, but if he decides against it she is fine with his choice. She respects the choices of others.
