One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed, and this is the best performance I have heard and I have literally heard them all. Doubt followed by pure Heaven and Bliss. I imagine it will work this way when my time comes shortly. I hope my Lord does not send me away. If he did he would not be "My Lord."
Music expresses a beauty that no words or paint could ever perceive. This music is heart of an Angel, unstoppable and breathtaking longing for peace and love. Ralph was a true genius and angelic soul who gave his heart for us all to understand each other and everything, just a little better.
I've always thought the 3rd movement of this symphony is one of the loveliest, most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. Thanks for posting it.
This is the most beautiful piece of music I have heard in a long time. I wish my father was still alive, so we could enjoy listening to it together - I know that we would both have tears flowing!
I have this stunning recording on CD and have had the privilege of hearing this symphony live at the BBC proms in 1999 on London. The whole symphony is astoundingly beautiful and moving. Mahler s 4th runs it a close second imho x
Thank you, I totally agree. There is a tender, compassionate glow in this piece that is absolutely heartbreaking in its beauty. Bathe in it, my friend :-)
LOVE...COMPASSION...and MORE...as only great music can express.Ever since the Adrian Boult recording,(as a young man)This symphony has had a PROFOUND effect on me.Scot Peacock...I think we would be good friends! Thanks.
david haynes David, thank you and yes, I think we would. I love the Boult recording too (EMI stereo?) Vernon Handley, who recorded this version I've posted, was Boult's protégé. Compassion is the buzzword here. VW had this incredible sense of caring for people around him and for humanity in general; his music is glowing with it. This symphony appeals for peace whilst also caressing the shattered wartime nerves of the people who heard it; it is a deeply compassionate reaction to the suffering we imperfect beings heap upon each other and, finally, a shimmering distant vision of the nirvana-like Albion that, for now, is just beyond our reach. This, to me, is the voice of Buddha, God, the Universal Consciousness* *(delete according to belief system)

Arguably the most beautiful short piece of music ever written.
