Finally found this. Did not expect it to be so difficult just to find the song in its traditional tune on RUclips. There are hundreds of creative and new versions but none of them are what I need. Thank you for this beautiful and educational song!
This song was recommended along with 2 others to me so that I could learn and sing along during the Shabbat service and feel more a part of. This is the best of the 3_A wonderful recommendation, indeed! 🌷
Apart from the huge English (American) pronunciation, which IMO slaughters the Hebrew a fair amount more than a little bit, I've finally found the version I got used to hear at the end of the Shabbat parasha here in Italy. Many many thanks. Todah rabah.
it's wonderful to have you follow the written words as you sing so I can practice reading at the same time as learning the melody. I am looking for melodies for all of the Sim Shalom Sidur prayers and psalms as I'm late to the "party" of reading Hebrew. as a child I did not learn Hebrew just went to services.
Pleasantly sung a-cappella performance. Despite my search being for Hebrew learning / lyrical pronunciation guide videos, your clear and well paced 2 minute gift here shall nonetheless serve as exceptional lead in eventual “follow-along practices”. שלום אחי
This is probably the most popular version and dates back to the 19th Century and the Russian cantor Eliezer Gerovitsch. Some Sephardic congregations have additional lines added but the melody is exactly the same.
The Lord of the Universe who reigned before anything was created. When all was made by his will He was acknowledged as King. And when all shall end He still all alone shall reign. He was, He is, and He shall be in glory. And He is one, and there's no other, to compare or join Him. Without beginning, without end and to Him belongs diminion and power. And He is my G-d, my living G-d. to Him I flee in time of grief, and He is my miracle and my refuge, who answers the day I shall call. To Him I commit my spirit, in the time of sleep and awakening, even if my spirit leaves, G-d is with me, I shall not fear.
in judaism, you don't pronounce the name of g-d. no one knows the pronunciation now anyway, so it would be disrespectful to try and guess at an approximation of the tetragrammaton.
Adon olam, asher malach,
b'terem kol y'tzir nivra.
L'et na'asah v'cheftzo kol,
azai melech sh'mo nikra.
V'acharey kichlot hakol,
l'vado yimloch nora.
V'hu haya, v'hu hoveh,
v'hu yih'yeh b'tifara.
V'hu echad, v'eyn sheni
l'hamshil lo, l'hachbira.
B'li reishit, b'li tachlit,
v'lo ha'oz v'hamisrah.
V'hu Eli, v'chai go'ali,
v'tzur chevli b'et tzarah.
V'hu nisi umanos li,
m'nat kosi b'yom ekra.
B'yado afkid ruchi
b'et ishan v'a'irah.
V'im ruchi g'viyati,
Adonai li v'lo ira.
For the ones who can’t read on hebrew❤️
Thank u very much

Much prefer this version to the newer melodies.
I'm so glad I found this today was looking for the original music rhythm for this prayer

Alas these aren't much use in countries where we don't have the same tunes...
English speakers definitely can't pronounce Hebrew properly...😢
You made a mistake at the name of Jehovah! Not nice to blot out the name of the Gods of Israel.

@@spoondrifts.Because we don't have multiple sources on the name, Hebrew sources.
