I remember mother rendering lard when a pig was butchered. It has quite a strong smell rendering down if I remember correctly. Lard, camp dog, and the critter of the day equals mealtime, lol. Thanks for the show Brother. I enjoyed it as always! You folks have a good day.
There is a bit of a smell associated with it but not bad…..I’m wondering what was going on there? Maybe some was bubbling out onto the stove creating smoke?
There ain't nothing better than a great family dinner enjoying a roasted critter, no doubt Mr Mcgie. You need that salad to wash down and clean out your system. God bless yawl. Always love watching the whole family and Frankie at the table. 😂❤😊
I rendered lard and tallow for the first time myself this year; after learning how bad processed seed oils (commonly known as vegetable oil) are for you. I was told it needed to be pressure canned, but I’m going to flip my jars next time. That’s how they did it growing up. Definitely would be easier and save me a lot of time. 👍🏽
I do a lot of cooking with lard from my pigs these days. Make soap with it too. A coworker of mine gave me some TN bear lard (grease) and it’s amazing. I sure would like to get to hunting some TN bear.
We render lard and also beef tallow. Always use lard for pastry. Beef is great for frying. Never problems when I use my cast iron. Have a great day and God bless 💞
You did an awesome job ! I never made lard before the only thing close is saving some bacon grease . I enjoy my salad as much as the rest of the meal lol . Thanks for sharing and have a great day !
Sure looked good, thought you would make some mashed potatoes to go with it. McGie did you build that dinner table that you all eat on? Did your dad make the chairs?
Great video. I noticed one of your sons working on a popsicle bridge? I sure hope so. I so enjoyed the previous bridge videos. Hope to see a new one this year. I can remember my high school shop teacher building them and then adding weights until they broke. If if was good luck.
Growing up we always used a cheese cloth to stain them and ate the crackling's I eat some of them now but when I do it there’s just tow many when I do it can I freeze them or can them I love them
Buttermilk Ranch Possum is one of the best and distinct flavors! It tastes like Possum 🤙🏻😂 Thank Ye fer Always having vids eating Possum Wish I had some🙏🏼🤠
What do you do with the cracklings? Can you add them to scrapple? My family just doesn't like them like in "Little House on the Prairie" Or feed them to the dog and chickens?
Which one of your cook stoves do you like the best? I have the hearthmaster 240 by kitchen queen that I found used at my local hardware store for $1500. I like it pretty good but would like it better if it had grates instead of the solid brick floor.
I just told my wife that they would go good in scrapple! If I get a chance I’ll try that! We sometimes use it in cornbread. But if we’re overwhelmed with it the chickens love em!
I get the feeling that you would not have allowed the hordes of illegals into the country, who are in a sense another type of wild hog. Raising hogs for table pork is a highly useful and respectable activity.
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures I would not go to the trouble to trap, cook and eat that ugly critter if it only tastes like chicken! I’d just eat chicken. Smh

I greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I was given some bear lard several years ago and I loved it!
I've rendered lard all my life but always did it in very large iron skillets never seen it in a big pot
And I do agree with Frank I'd run off also when it comes to eating opossum
😂😂😂 but he did eat it!😂
Thank you for sharing your family and your wisdom😊
You are welcome!
Ordered several of the campdog seasons. I got the crab boil also for a low country boil. Thanks for the contact and discount 😂
You’re in for a treat!!!

Lard is fun to make and not hard at all. I usually have just saved the fat for sausage, but we’re overrun with fat right now 😂😂😂
Fantastic!!! Thanks for sharing how to do this. I'll be so happy the day I no longer buy anything in, homemade is best ☺
You can do it!
Sure looked good, thought you would make some mashed potatoes to go with it. McGie did you build that dinner table that you all eat on? Did your dad make the chairs?
No that table was made by Amish craftsmen.
Chicken/turtle= opossum 😂❤
😂😂😂
Outstandingly video love the lard making and critters in the pan 🥘 yummy thanks for sharing keep the cameras rolling from Florida

I need me some camp dog and a opossum. You always make me hungry!🙂
Yes you do! Fortunately both are easy to get!!😂😂😂
If we lived a little closer together I would trade blueberries for some lard.🙂

It's the best grease to fry fish in
You got that right!
My dog is just like that every time I process meat(I tried to be careful of my wording). I rendered deer fat this year, it was good.

No, that’s a myth,
"You don't get lard lessen you boil the hog!"---John Wayne as Davy Crockett in "The Alamo" (1960)
😂😂😂 Love it!
I get the feeling that you would not have allowed the hordes of illegals into the country, who are in a sense another type of wild hog. Raising hogs for table pork is a highly useful and respectable activity.
You would be correct…… wild Hogs are much less dangerous, as they are restricted by instinct.
What is the unit on your ceiling by your kitchen table? it is yellow and black.
That is a dewalt battery powered light. We don’t have electricity in our house.
What’s Opossum taste like? Don’t say chicken unless it tastes like chicken.🤔 Caleb likes it, it must be good!😊

In the cellar.
