Make Beautiful Silver Vintage Jewelry

  • In this video I will show you how to made this vintage styled silver necklace. I will be using a square labradorite cabochon to make this piece but you can really use any stone you like. As for the silver all you really need is some wire, sheet metal, fine silver bezel wire and a silver chain.
    If you are looking for more tools and materials that I use, well you're in luck! I made a page on my website just for that and I'm updating all the time so bookmark it to stay up to date:

    Love your design. One trick I was taught to make beads of metal was to make my own jump rings in different sizes. Then when you want beads of the same size just use the same size jump ring and head away. As long as you use the same size wire your beads will be the same. There are so many ways to get to the finished product. I learned so much from watching and listening to your explanations. Thank you!

    I'm floored. This is exactly what I've been trying to learn. Took 1 online course, then worked my way though a book - so I'm anxious to know how to do the rest. What you showed is EXACTLY what I've needed to know. As a lampworker, I want to include my own cabochon. Squeeee! I'm so excited. I realize this took you quite a long time to film, and all I can say is THANK YOU. To me - it's so worth it as I will go back and watch this over many times. You're the best! Thanks, Randy!

    My goodness - this is just what I've been needing to see. I'm new to all this and stuck on adding the balls/bail part. Now I have a better idea of where I can do better - lots of information here. Also, my silver balls were getting stuck on the solderite board even with reheating. SO, I'll switch to my carbon block and use flux.... two important change ups. All I can say is THANK YOU - I know this is absolutely free information and I'm so very happy. You, kind sir, are wonderful.

    Beautiful piece, and what a great idea to use the segmented/ball wire to create your balls! I'm definitely going to add that to my repertoire!
    I was also blown away by how you soldered everything onto the backplate at one time. It didn't really look like all of the solder had flowed, and I was skeptical that it would all hold, but clearly it did.

    • @GomeowCreations
      @GomeowCreations  6 лет назад

      +wendyannh soldering it like this can fail some times. If you do try this be sure to check that every part has been soldered. I took some time to learn the best solder placments to make this work every time.

  • @Tuhonen17
    @Tuhonen17 3 года назад

    Great video, and shows all the essentials in such short time! I have just a couple of small tips for anyone making something like this: if the bezel is a bit too small you can gently hammer it all around - it will stretch a bit and the stone will fit and you don't have to remove any material (this will also flatten the seam in case it's any thicker). Then, placing the spot where the ends are soldered together at the bottom edge will make it most invisible (sometimes seams can oxidize a bit differently from the surrounding material during time, this way it doesn't show on the side). Last, some softer stones need to be protected from polishing mediums so it's good to do most of polishing before setting the stone and just do the last cleanup afterwards. Just some small tips I've learned, your example is absolutely beautiful and needed none of these advice but thought I'd share them anyway!

    Very nice work of yours.
    I do it the same way, just instead of using solder like urs, i use a lil bit of paste on the easy moving parts, and afterwards i use solder, it makes me use much less solder, it makes it easyer, and plus, the purity of the piece is much higher because i have to use less solder in total. This is just my expirience, but as i see it works on u so well done.
    Thnx for sharing.

    Nice video! I haven’t even lit a torch yet, but this is what I want to ultimately make. I’m dreaming big, I know! I stumbled on your video, and with a lot of patience and practice, I think I can get a good start from what you showed! But there will be a lot of failures, but I’m OK with tha! I won’t use fancy stones... just beach glass for now. Thank you so very much!

    When making twisted wire, I get a standard household (screw in) hook and place it in the drill. I clamp the two ends of the wire together in a vise. Hook the wire and pull steadily to straighten it with the drill before twisting.You do not want hard areas in the wire before twisting. Pull the drill with strength and start twisting.
    Also, before I solder a bezel in place, I always place the misshaped bezel around the stone and use a bezel rocker to work the bezel into a perfect match to the stone. The stone should "nearly" fall into the bezel if you get it right.
    Thank for posting the videos. I enjoy watching good informative material such as this. Better than TV any day ;)
