@welshrecon It needs to be maintained, and that shit isn't free or cheap. You'd be complaining if you were hit with a rock. Yes, it's a natural rock formation, but it's also an attraction which needs staffing. The Gorge itself is free, but the caves you have to pay to view.
DJE, I live in Somerset for nearly 20yrs and due to ill health I never made it up to Cheddar Gorge, SO, from the bottom of my heart, your drone footage was stunningly beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing it and many thanks again :) You have made my week :) xx
Check with Drone assist if there're no flight restrictions in the area, he can't do anything , he doesn't own the air space , I don't even know why you bother talking to clowns 🤡🤡🤡, especially when they just spout pith 😮😂
Looking forward to the film, the first one is one of my favs. Amazing scenery there, only been there once, but still remember it some 40 odd years later.
There is no flight distance restrictions to buildings in residential areas when flying sub 250g drones providing you don't break peoples right to privacy by filming into their homes without permission (unlike public areas people do have a legal expectation of privacy in their home). So keep the drone above the roof tops and you're good to go. I have no idea where that bloke got 500m from... They just make rubbish up to deter people.
It's a public road they can't stop you filming. What makes me laugh is when they say I can't let you do it, how are they going to stop you, I would've said watch me and crossed the road and took off.
It amazes me how these fools can tell you what you to do on public land. How can they say you can’t fly a drone in public land. How can a gorge be private property? £24 is an outrage. There are paths on both sides of the gorge anyway. I really do think get why it’s an issue. I rode my mountain bike from the top of one side, I’d like them to try and tell me I couldn’t do that.
It isn’t public land according to the ranger, one side belongs to the NT and the other belongs to the Marquis of Bath. Although the drone goes up in the air, so isn’t on land anyway. 😂
Your saving a lot of people a lot of money doing these national trust vids. I've been here but never saw the views you have shown here today. I don't pay to the trust since I found out illegal immigrants get a free pass.
That's disgusting if true. There is a lot to love about the trust, though, and they have protected a lot of beautiful places in the UK from development.

Fantastic Vlog DJE. I've never been there and was surprised at the large area it covers. Very good drone footage and magnificent flying "I liked the way to followed the road" 😀
@@hairyhandsharry5991 I'm not sure, we would have to look at it in detail. What I do believe is that there are not as many restrictions and obstacles as in the United Kingdom. In any case, just the fact of visiting it and enjoying its charming walls is worth going. The Hermida Gorge is the longest (21 km) and deepest (600 m) in Spain and has vegetation and morphology very similar to that of the Cheddar Gorge, although with much larger dimensions. deserves to be visited.
Really beautiful! I stayed near there once, outside Wells, but my partner was ill and we didn't go to the gorge. I really appreciate this drone footage of it.
I used to work for ADF the filming location people and delivered trailers here a few times. They usually close the top car parking area when they are filming so no cars are left there etc
So close to Glastonbury. Such an interesting place to film. I video alot there. Very interesting. Back in November to Vlog more. Would be great if you did
DJE A question about max altitude reached at 13:35. If you took off, up on the cliffside, and went straight up to 120 metres. Then went over the edge, are you then flying higher than 120, and would the drone know the difference and not dive straight down etc. Where the person standing up there at 20:10 is for example.
I believe DJI drones work out their location from the home point. From the location DJE took off he is lower than where the drone gave the notification. This is why his 120m notification is triggered while the drone is actually a lot lower. If you flew it off a cliff edge it will think it is still on the cliff height and not over a drop. GPS will give location on land. If you look at GPS data it gives 2 reference numbers giving you a point on land. For height you need a barometer. Hope this helps.
The law is within 120m 'from the closest point of the earth’s surface'. So you can be above a 200m drop if you are horizintally within 100m of a cliff. You can also fly up to 15m vertically or 50m horizontally of a tall structure even if this exceeds 120 from the ground. However, all of this is too complicated for DJI's software to work out so this just works out 120m vertical from the takeoff point - in the UK, you can override the maximum imposed by the software if you know you will be legal, and DJE could have done that here. You cant override the software in Europe though.
Absolutely love the Gorge, it’s like traveling to another part of the world! I think I’ll go next week when I’ve got some time spare. Had to laugh when the guy says I can’t let you do it 😂 is he going to wrestle you to the ground?
There's a free cave there somewhere, much more interesting than the paid ones, it's tricky to find. Make sure you do a live feed if you film it, as you might not make it back out.
Private land does Not equal private air space ! The NT can Not stop Anyone from flying over ! Only the CAA have that power. If you want to drive a person toward something, Keep them from it, the forbidden fruit is the Most tempting. Great views DJE, nice video.
Did you know?.. 'Max Altitude' is a relative term, i.e. 400ft / 120m above the 'ground' below the Aircraft; use the contour of the geography to your advantage.
Obviously he did not, and it's this sort of thing which is going to get drone flying banned or restricted for other people, so it was a very irresponsible and selfish thing to do.

Very Interesting views. How does the maximum elevation work when the ground changes so much? Does that mean you could go up an extra height from the bottom of the gorge as the ground underneath goes up? Or is it fixed to the location of the controls?
Poor man. Publicly embarrassed because he felt that he had to follow orders or his job would be on the line, even when the orders are unlawful. He has grounds to sue the company for putting him in such an awful situation where he's been made to look stupid.
The inside and out could do with a bit of updating. Got the whole 1990's vibe from it. Not forgetting the mess on the table.
