  • We recently visited Sicily for 10 days, this was our second trip to Sicily, Italy and it was beautiful! We visited a number of different cities, including Palermo, Trapani, Sciacca & Cefalù. We had a blast and I hope I've done Sicily justice. If you're thinking about visiting I really recommend you do, it's a fantastic place with wonderful people, incredible food and stunning scenery.
    This was the most enjoyable, hardest and longest edit I've done yet. I had 3 different cameras, a memory card fail on me, a GoPro fell off the car and my drone malfunctioned. It was fun and I really hope you enjoy it.

    Got to admit you did a GREAT job of the editing. Just the rights balance of drone footage and personal. It felt like a professional tv shaw with Judith Chalmers. The places you visited looked so beautiful and idiotic. Next tome you go can you please smuggle me in your suitcase, I’m so jealous. Love the channel and much respect. Stay safe 😷 and I look forward to meeting you both when things get back to normal ish.

      Thank you Lord! I tried to do exactly that, not over do it with drone, and just try to tell the story with the footage. Hopefully I achieved that, it was really enjoyable making it and it didn't interfere with our trip and now it means we can look back on it whenever we want and relive the experience :) Hope you're keeping safe.

    My family is from Palermo, and I’ve been there many times! I’ve even done the walk up Monte Pellegrino several times myself. I’m surprised you did it as a first time visitor, but glad you got to experience it. If you liked the cathedral in Cefalù, you’ll love the one at Monreale In Palermo. It was built by the nephew of the one in Cefalù, and it’s its twin, with the exception of that one got finished!! Where you saw mosaics in the front only in Cefalù, they’re all over in Monreale. Also, the Palatine Chapel in the Norman Palace is like a mini-Monreale, and more ornate if that’s even possible.
    Glad you had a good time!

      As a 100% Sicilian I'm glad you love Sicily! (family is from Palermo, and a town you might have heard of called Corleone). Places to check out your next trip..... Taormina (beautiful... plan on spending some time--I miscalculated that the last time and only got a couple hours). Catania--a very baroque city. And between them there's Mt. Etna, at least if it's not erupting at the time! Go on a nice day and you can take the funevia up to near the top! The air was a little thin for my lungs but you look like you can handle it. And Siracusa! It has some stuff not to be missed. The catacombs there date back to the Bible! And the archeological parks that include the Greek and Roman amphitheaters, and the "Ear of Dionyses"... worth the trip. And not to be missed there, is the "old" part of the city.. the "island" of Ortegia. It's technically an island, but it's connected by a short land bridge one can walk or drive over. It is quite old and quite beautiful. Views abound, and you can even take a boat trip around the island. Piazza Armerina has a Roman villa (or what's left of it) but some fairly intact and fairly old mosaics. They call themselves the "city of mosaics", but personally, I think, with the Palentine Chapel, and Monreale, I think Palermo holds that title! There is also a cathedral (?) there that you can see from down below. Worth the trip up! And you can probably stop for a good meal too. These are all more on the east side of Sicily.
      I do have to say, you did Sicily right. I don't drive manual transmission, so renting a car in Sicily is both difficult and expensive. Having the freedom to get up and go at will can make all the difference--everything I did had to be a day trip. I was time-limited on Erice, as I had to keep in mind what time the bus left for Palermo, and which bus I'd have to take down in order to catch THAT bus. Siracusa I had to do twice, and on Sunday both times, because that was the only day the interval between arriving and leaving had any length of time worth the 3 hour trip each way! (I'm sure it's shorter and more direct by car--moreso, if you have a "lead foot"). And going to a city and staying there for a few days is definitely the better way to go. My last trip, I did a few days in Rome on the way in and a few in Milan on the way out.

    • @josephmarchione3319
      @josephmarchione3319 3 года назад +1

      And a travel tip more for Chloe.... You'll find that most churches in Italy require women to be covered--usually at the shoulders, and depending who's watching the door, if your pants/skirt is too short, they may require a covering there too. On the plus side, usually you can find entrepreneur selling cloth shawls nearby (generally more expensive closer to the door!). So if you think there might be a church in your day, it's not a bad idea just to carry one (or two) along, just in case the day's attire might not be church-ready.

    Oh, a couple of tips if anyone is going to attempt a trip up Monte Pellegrino. Something I learned from my relatives---- leave EARLY. I mean before sunrise early. Traditionally, people walk up for her Saint Day (September 4th). or thereabouts. As you noted, it gets "toasty", so getting at least some of the walk out of the way before the sun is up is definitely a help. Also, what I do is freeze a bottle of water a night or two before. As water expands, I actually freeze about 3/4 of the bottle, putting it in the freezer at a bit of an angle, and leaving the cap off. Day of, I fill it up the rest of the way with water. This way I have cold water for the entire trip, as it'll melt throughout the day. (helpful tip for any other hiking trips you plan on as well). I just drink off the water as it melts.

    Top video. Big up from a Sicilian (born in Castelvetrano, TP) who lives in Lombardy.
    Just one thing. At 19:36 it wasn’t a great idea, it would be dangerous because of the structural damage of the building. And that’s really creepy, that’s a consequence of the mafia presence: construction abuse.

    • @JonnyandChloe
      @JonnyandChloe  3 года назад +1

      Hey Agente! Thanks for the info it was certainly creepy! That's really interesting about the mafia presence.. Can you tell me more??

    • @AgenteET786
      @AgenteET786 3 года назад

      @@JonnyandChloe
      building abuse, more generally tenders, is one of the most profitable businesses of the mafia, both in Italy and abroad, but in southern Italy it is more evident. on the other hand it is the reason why, if you have noticed, in Sicily the construction and maintenance of public works and infrastructures is very slow and services are lacking, and it is full of architectural works begun and never finished, or of complete buildings but uninhabited. But this is, as mentioned earlier, a matter that has mainly concerned northern Italy for at least 40 years and has also extended abroad. Often then, as in the case of the Camorra of Casal di Principe (CE, Campania), these infrastructures are then used as illegal landfills, given that the mafias also deal with tenders for the disposal of waste (including toxic and even radioactive ones, coming from abroad, as we do not have nuclear power plants in Italy).
