Here's my problem with Cam, to your point he's not the best on-ball defender and has a tendency to take horrible shots. In my (admittedly) limited time watching him it also seems that his first instinct is to shoot (I.E. point about bad shots above^) when rather than taking a low percentage shot, he should look to pass first. All this said, I completely agree with your point about he should take time to develop with Brooklyn, the only problem... it doesn't seem like he wants to do that. Even just based on his interviews shown it seems like he believes he's THE guy and should be a starter from day 1. It's kinda like how incoming 5-star freshman QBs in college football EXPECT to be the starter. It's like dude, you're 22 take a year or 2 to develop. For example, on the heat, Haywood Highsmith (who many non heat fans might not even know) starts over Jamie Jaquez. Is that some kind of proof that Haywood is better than Jamie? Not whatsoever. It’s about the role they play. Highsmith is an elite defender like finney smith and that’s why they start and players like cam are 6th man. Lineups are about having the right roles together and not about just throwing a bunch of 20 point scorers in the same lineup. Jamie comes off the bench but he plays much more minutes than highsmith. Highsmith is just better suited for the starting lineup, not because he’s better but, because he fits a role that’s needed in that lineup. Lineups are about getting the right roles together

Just to the point. They don't develop these players anymore. They stick them right into the fire, because they had a good draft. He's no different that any other rookie, and his best won't be seen until his 3rd or 4th year. They don't teach, or the player doesn't want to learn the fundamental mechanics if moving without the ball, and defense. If they practice on their craft they can get better, only time will tell.
Players just need to givw up all their ego and answer all interview questions with. " i just need to work harder and play better" jsut keep repeating that.
When other teams’s players are asked about what are the biggest challenges when facing the Nets, they often bring up Cam. I think that says a lot. He is as good as Kyrie at both defense and offense. The Nets need to keep him happy and build around him.
I wouldn't say good as Kyrie especially shooting wise but he can be a all star/6 man player type on the right team or with better play making, definitely a good scorer tho
Cam is a bucket but he is also a street cone on defense so he becomes a liability deep into games if he would play defense like he plays offense then he would be starting
Luckily, it seems like Trigga Trey might be back after these last two games. I think the surgery and aggravation in the fall with Marcus Smart affected him.
Oh nah. Trey Murphy! That's my guy. I deemed him a future all-star. I think he's just adjusting back after his injury. I think I. Due time he'll get back to his upward trajectory
Cam needs to be treated like A.I., but those days of score 1st PG's with passing as the last option. We don't have Stevie Franchize or Starbury anymore and he is more in that mold, but that's not today's game
realistically he will never be a solid defender. But he can still be a great starter, and possibly all star. Because he has shown he has the tenacity to drop 48 burgers. At minimum he should be a solid 6th man. Things he should be doing : 1. Score with less moves. 2. Find more open looks, and easier looks in the paint where he can get there at will and will score. Lots of great players can do this. 3. play off teammates moves/ team sets. 4. be a playmaker. Even the 6th man score type player like Jamal crawford, lou williams, jordan clarkson, malik monk, all can operate as a playmaker, run the point, run the pick and roll really well.
As a Rockets fan, as much as I like Jalen Green, I think it'd be the best if we just traded him. We don't really need him and his trade value is still really good. Cam Whitmore is already looking like a more promising player to me and I can't see both JG and Cam getting enough minutes to develop properly. We should trade Green for a good 3&D player. The Rockets already have many good offensive players and I just can't see all of them getting enough opportunities. What I personally would like to see is Vanvleet AND Green getting traded for a superstar point guard like Fox, but that is VERY unlikely to happen. I can just keep on dreaming. (EDIT) I know that Fox isn't a good 3pt shooter but I meant that if we ONLY traded Green, we should go for a 3&D guy, I just kinda threw that last trade out there because that's what I would personally like to see but it's not happening.
I wouldn’t trade grimes if I was the Knicks unless it’s for the big star they’re looking for. Donte’s been better at creating his own shot but I still like grimes defensively for the playoffs. He just gotta get his confidence back on his jumper
Cam does not seem to want to pass, rebound, commit to playing defense and his attitude sucks. The talent is there but he is on a young team where it’s a different lineup each night. The Nets need veteran leadership in the locker room to help mold these younger guys.
It's clear as day to those who know the industry and organization what the nets are doing with Cam. They are purposely playing him less to not only tank but to lower his value when it comes to for him to sign a contract.
"He doesn't protect the basket"?!? You do know he's a guard, right? If a guy can give you 40 or 50 as a coach, you find a way to get him on the court. Unfortunately, the Nets don't have a coach.
When someone can score like he has been, and not be the primary focus that tells me every other part of his game is severely lacking. And his scoring doesn’t counteract everything he gives up. And he seems to think all he has to do is shoot.
Nets should build the roster around cam. Ben Simmons Cam Mikal DFS And a 3nD center like myles turner If you know ball fr you know that lineup would cook.
Cam is like a smaller Devin Booker in his early days. Good at scoring and nothing else. A liability on defense. Just empty stats. Right now, Cam fit for a 6th man role
CT24 is clearly the best offensive payer on the team, but unfortunately a team that is desperately in need of scoring is stuck on politics . D Booker, Dame Lil, and Darrius Garland are similar players but yet the are not shone by their respective coaches. So frustrating to see a potential star being treated like this. I hope the Nets either get a coach that will let him play with no fear of his job or CT24 goes to team that appreciate what he brings to the game. I believe the Nets should have hired Ume when he was available, big mistake. CT24 keep the mamba mentality alive and play your game my guy. 🥷🏾🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Nah I agree, I’m not worried about him at all. but this video is mainly about an offensive leap. I definitely heard ppl say Jaden could take a scoring jump(myself included, wasn’t 100% with them but I thought he’d have a more defined scoring role but he doesn’t get as many touches as I thought)

Its obvious he’s the 2nd best if not the best player but the lack of visions and inconsistent direction with the organization he in my eyes despite his flaws should be playing because they literally have no offensive firepower no reason to jus go with him and let it play out
Yall nitpicking with Cam Thomas. Yall want him to be an elite scoring playmaking defender. U can’t name 10 guys like that in the entire nba. He’s in the same mold as Maxey. I hate that the nets fans need to put all the blame on cam when it ain't cams fault he was put on a poopy organization if the nets were smart they would build around Cam. I hope Cam walks out on the nets.
They don't wanna pay Cam Thomas starter money. They wanna pay him 6th man money. They want to sit him so that this offseason they could get away with paying him like Jalen Brunson, but they aren't good. If Cam Thomas played for majority of other teams they would give him a lot. He's a 3rd year player avgin 20+ ppg for a coach who doesn't like him. As much as they want Bridges to be the top man, Bridges ain't got top man mentality.
Cam is an empty stats guy..he cant do shit except sccoring..cant pass, cant defend, cant create for teamates..he can give you 30 butt his team will lose every time
Yall gotta stop with Cam already. I know offensively he fun to watch but dont be blind. Cam a 6'3 SF😐 at that size you're not guarding anyone in that position. If he had a strong 3 ball he could at least be a SG. This guy will go for 45 with 1 or no threes took. He also not really athletic, as far as playing above the rim. Dont get it twisted he is a bucket. But you just cant ignore those weaknesses.
Cam just isn’t that good of a player. All he wants to do is play a ton of minutes and play iso-ball, which just isn’t what teams want to do anymore, and he isn’t even good enough to justify running an entire offense around. I would honestly just play more of an egalitarian offense, with a lot of passing and shooting. Maybe trade for an actual point guard like Tyus Jones or Malcom Brogdon.
Funny thing is, coaches nowadays value defense whenever there is exactly no defense being played every game. They abhor shotmakers who cannot defend but that is who the current superstars are. Luka, Trae, Donovan, Jokic, Embiid is bad defensively compared to every good big superstars in the past, Tatum etc. Even Giannis is a shit defender.

Nice video!. keep doing great job!
appreciate it!
Like c'mon MEN! I need his fan pts to go up
Players just need to givw up all their ego and answer all interview questions with.
And cam just scored 40 as we speak 😂😂😂
Cam is a bucket but he is also a street cone on defense so he becomes a liability deep into games if he would play defense like he plays offense then he would be starting
Moses Moody as well from GSW
Luckily, it seems like Trigga Trey might be back after these last two games. I think the surgery and aggravation in the fall with Marcus Smart affected him.
Cam is a 6 God. He would be the perfect first man of the bench for a team like the Magic.
If he played for the Magic I don't see a reason why he wouldn't start.
Because that style of play is inefficient and stupidly easy to guard in the playoffs
realistically he will never be a solid defender.
But he can still be a great starter, and possibly all star. Because he has shown he has the tenacity to drop 48 burgers. At minimum he should be a solid 6th man.
Things he should be doing :
What about Quentin Grimes and RJ Barrett? Is RJ's increase in production real since the trade? Why did Grimes fall off? What is his future with NY?
I wouldn’t trade grimes if I was the Knicks unless it’s for the big star they’re looking for. Donte’s been better at creating his own shot but I still like grimes defensively for the playoffs. He just gotta get his confidence back on his jumper
Hopefully we keep Grimes and continue to let him develop. Trading RJ and Quick has done wonders for the other role players.
Green is a number collector
Cam is a scorer. No more no less.
He’s the MIP
Cam does not seem to want to pass, rebound, commit to playing defense and his attitude sucks. The talent is there but he is on a young team where it’s a different lineup each night. The Nets need veteran leadership in the locker room to help mold these younger guys.
Inefficient rollercoaster player
It's clear as day to those who know the industry and organization what the nets are doing with Cam. They are purposely playing him less to not only tank but to lower his value when it comes to for him to sign a contract.
He's wading dangerously close to J.R. Smith chucking territory.
Kawhi Leonard's development was an anomaly. Every guy who gets the 3&D tag can't turn into that. There's a reason he's regarded as top 30-35 all time
"He doesn't protect the basket"?!? You do know he's a guard, right? If a guy can give you 40 or 50 as a coach, you find a way to get him on the court. Unfortunately, the Nets don't have a coach.
Cam Thomas is a GOAT
When someone can score like he has been, and not be the primary focus that tells me every other part of his game is severely lacking. And his scoring doesn’t counteract everything he gives up. And he seems to think all he has to do is shoot.
Nets should build the roster around cam.
Ben Simmons
Cam
Mikal
DFS
And a 3nD center like myles turner
If you know ball fr you know that lineup would cook.
you joke about ben 10 but they look like a much better team when he is on the field. both defense and offence
Cam compares his game to Harden but all I see is Dion Waiters
He's at Best a sixth man. Sorry lol
Cap
What is that comment 😂
CAM IS SCORING THE SAME PER MINUTE AS LUKA
Dude Jaden McDaniels is mostly their all around best defender. He guards the best guy and he’s young. He’s got potential
@@CaineLovesCalihe is the 4th option on the team and sometimes 5th. If Naz Reid is cooking. We have to start giving these lockdown defenders the credit they deserve. Especially in an era where scoring is at an all time high. Y'all just be expecting every young baller should all be at 20 ppg by year 3, and it's just not realistic. When you factor in some of the teams these guys are playing on. In his case Ant # 1 option kat # 2 Conley #3 and Naz or Jaden #4. Y'all gotta do more research before you make these bold statements.
keldon, devon and a 1st for lamelo and bouknight
At least they are no Jordan Poole.
Elite scoring okay playmaker and not a liability on defense. At 22!!! He should be treated like y’all best player. Yall gonna regret it if yall lose him. Oh yeah he’s 22!!!!
Maxey is 20x better of a playmaker and doesnt waste 5 possessions a game on dogshit shots
He’s a starter bro (Cam)
Lets be honest cam is not the guy or he not gonna be an allstar or superstar he just gonna be like jamal crawford type of player and other really good scorer
Cam is not a team player and he is lazy on defense or he just cant play d. But i agree with the Coach. He needs to be coming off bench until he matures.
Fucking lie he is not lazy on d stop narrative pushing casual
I hate that the nets fans need to put all the blame on cam when it ain't cams fault he was put on a poopy organization if the nets were smart they would build around Cam. I hope Cam walks out on the nets.
You said cam kicks it to the shooters - the lied detector determined that was a lie
I have never in my entire life seen this shid theyre doing with Cam.... I guy who could give you buckets you refuse to play?
Golden State could use Cam 😏
Green is a terrible fit with an Udoka-coached squad. Simple as that.
“He doesn’t protect the rim” he shouldn’t have to
Jalen Green got his first Triple-Double the other day, thats a wildly long ass time for a #2 pick
Cam thomas you are a new york knick
We good
Fire the nets coach.
Cam just needs more discipline. He’s proved he can score and put up numbers.
talk about jordan poole hes one of the worst players since he got traded after showing so much promise with the warriors
Keldon makes the worst decisions in crunch time.
Jalen Green would be better in the WNBA.
Hater
They don't wanna pay Cam Thomas starter money. They wanna pay him 6th man money. They want to sit him so that this offseason they could get away with paying him like Jalen Brunson, but they aren't good. If Cam Thomas played for majority of other teams they would give him a lot. He's a 3rd year player avgin 20+ ppg for a coach who doesn't like him. As much as they want Bridges to be the top man, Bridges ain't got top man mentality.
Facts
Cam is not 6’3😂
Cam needs to get out of that trash organization
Cam is an empty stats guy..he cant do shit except sccoring..cant pass, cant defend, cant create for teamates..he can give you 30 butt his team will lose every time
Jaque Vaughn was an ass coach. Hopefully the new guy knows how to use Cam.
100 right
Sounds like bad coaching
Imo, he can obviously score, but he takes too many bad shots, he goes gball, & doesn't play defense.
