For anyone who doesn't know this music video is a homage to the 1979 Russian animated film "Tale of Tales". It is widely considered the greatest animated film of all time. Was super excited to see the presets use this film as their inspiration.
@@erinloveswendy dunno about any of that, but to call something the greatest animated film of all time... Bold statement. Like saying the best movie ever made came out of India
Man, I remember driving all around Massachusetts back in like 2005/06 trying to find a CD store that had the "Beams" album..... I saw the video for "Are You The One?" on MTV one night as a young teenager and was instantly a fan, then I started collecting whatever of their music I could fine. Eventually I found the album at a Strawberry's store in Natick if I remember correctly. I played the SHIT out of that CD. Now I look back on those days that I hated in the moment, full of teenage anxt and naivety, and I miss them like an old friend. It's hard to believe that was my life..... actually, it's hard to believe anything existed before 2020.
THIS SONG IS LEGENDARY! FUCK. So few people appreciate it too! Which means its ALL FOR US! Its all the more special to me because of that fact. Its our little secret.
I couldn't agree more. It's absolute genius and marked the beginning of an era that has since been obscured. But the sound was so fresh then. So unlike anything being played at the time and a perfect pop song too.
I agree. Saw them in Cleveland when they were touring Apocalypso. I remember my brothers and I all talking about how we caught them before they blew up. Makes no sense that they didn't get bigger.
Few songs make me cry, and this is one of them. I remember listening to the song/ watching this music video in my early 20s and was just captivated. I am so moved by this song's message that it brings me to tears every time. I need to add that the director of this video is a true artist. The wolf sitting next to a dwindling fire at the end really shows the pain he's feeling when the girl leaves him.
Ive loved this song for over 10 year but now that i have a little girl Ive finally realized this video is about the unconditional love a father has for his daughter, even when she grows up and leaves him. But then comes back at the end. I love this.
I agree with your interpretation. My best friend just passed a few weeks ago from substance abuse.....she nodded off in the bath tub and went under. =( Her father was always there waiting and trying to help her get better but in the end the addiction was too powerful and now my best friend is gone....and I miss her terribly.
It’s 13 years later and I’m just now seeing your comment, but this internet stranger just wanted to say I hope you’re doing well in your life, and that you’re surrounded by love
The girl was born a mermaid- meant to live a different life than most. She could hide her secret but at the end, that was who she was meant to be. The wolf was her protector, her family, who raised her unconditionally and understood she was different. At some point she leaves him to explore, he is sad and understandably feels betrayed. He rips off his own tail, a piece of himself to throw into the water. It is not lost however, she finds it and at the end as winter is coming she emerges from the water. The apples are no longer rotten and wormy- they are new and shiny. I feel this is a metaphor of the unconditional love between a parent and a child.
One of my all-time favourite song/video combo and the one that really echoes the loss I feel when I think of my unfulfilled desire of become a father and having a daughter to take care of. I’m a little heartbroken each time but it's still, somehow, a beautiful sadness.
I completely forgot this song, I first heard it in High school and now I dont even remember where I found it from. its been almost 13 years since then... this is magical.
This song was my introduction to these guys. Listened to the rest of their catalogue since; some good stuff, but still none of them hit me quite like this one. Amazing track
I'm pretty sure she returns in the end, or at least, you are lead to believe she most possibly will, since she pops out of the water and look up at the cliff where the wolf is.
I am really enjoying all of the different interpretations of what this song is about, can there be more discussions like this for every song? It is cool that so many people find such different meanings and concepts in this song.
I gave this LP called 'Beams' by The Presets to my then friend of 15 years (her name Sarah) as a Birthday present, and she roundly dismissed it like I had stepped on her cat. She was the only person I thought would like this album, however, I was incorrect to the nth degree. She loves Goldfrapp and Morrissey and the like, so, I thought maybe this would be good for her...oh well... Anyway, I quite like the nuance and atmosphere of the tracks themselves...and especially the quality of the melody and lyrics. Such a richly textured and vibrant use of both. Cheers to the PRESETS!

It’s done so beautifully thank you for sharing the 411 .
It is "widely" considered if barely anyone has ever heard or seen it?

This band is legendary. Period!

It's a fucking crime that The Presets aren't huge everywhere.

Yeah... I can't believe this video has so few vies. It's about 800k, when I posed. The clip is amazing. =/

Probably the only presets song i ever found that actually seemed to go deeper than just pump up dance music
You should probably listen to their album Pacifica then
so many years later and this song still makes me feel things deeply
I agree with you Ash!. I feel this song very deeply in my heart!!, it's timeless!!.
There is something about the melody that just cuts straight to your soul.

It’s time to get going on my life.
This to me is the story of everyone who I have been with and who has moved on one way or another, it is bitter sweet
Hard to describe what this song means to me. Difficult to put it into words. The freedom it expresses...

This is one of those songs that just haunts the bowels of my musical soul. So eerie, so beautiful, so trippy. I love the shit out of it.
I love this song, first heard it on the Quiksilver Soundtrack for Young Guns. Could listen to it all day. Sick Film-clip
Have to say, this is by far The Preset's best track!
I love this song, it's really stunning, deep and it also has a perfect beat!. Regards from the south of South America, Buenos Aires, Argentina!!

I never understood this song in such depth before. Thanks.

This is absolutely wonderful.... Its like Royksopp,... but from a different angle: simplistic tripout and a pleasure to the mind!.....
Every time I play this song - I end up replaying it 15-20 times :)
not sure why???
Sempre choro vendo essa obra prima.
Love this song forever and always.
One of the best songs, no doubt.
I'm getting addicted to this song
fifteen years on, and I still love this track. One of my all-time faves.

Love that there are several equally valid interpretations of what this song means. It goes to show what a work of art it is.
