Everyone who met Rasputin remarked on his eyes and how hypnotic they were. His "shining steel-like" or "bright and brilliant" and "intelligent" eyes became legendary. According to Shelley they seemed to emit soft, velvety rays, caressing one almost as one feels the caress of a melodious voice. According to Theofan, Paul Kurlov and Count Kokotsov he had "piercing" eyes; to Yusupov his eyes were "phosphorescent"; to Tamara Karsavina he had the eyes of a maniac; Elena Dzhanumova wrote in her diary, "What eyes he has! You cannot endure his gaze for long. Maria told her grandchildren that her father taught her to be generous, even in times when she was in need herself. Rasputin said she should never leave home with empty pockets, but should always have something to give to the poor. According to Maria their infamous great-grandfather was a "simple man with a big heart and strong spiritual power, who loved Russia, God, and the Tsar," her granddaughter Laurence Huot-Solovieff, the daughter of Maria's daughter Tatyana, recalled in 2005.
yes, Rasputin was famed for his eyes and i seem to see something of them in his daughter's eyes - hope i am not just wishfully imaging it! very interesting what you say about his kindness to his daughter - so often he is crudely cast as a simple monster - and this is usually the case for no-one.
I never thought of Rasputin as a ''monster''... his eyes are [or were] very powerful, but that type of blue eye, rimmed with a darker blue circle IS very intense. It is seen in Celtic people too. Rasputin is quite well groomed in some of his early photographs, and today I looked on google earth, the village of Pokrovskoye, and 'travelled' down the road past a derelict wooden house, and that house Rasputin himself would have sauntered by. Sadly his Village house was demolished.
Maria Rasputin lived in Los Angeles during her final years. I knew where she lived (on Larissa Drive) and - when I was a teen - I often went past her place, hoping to get a glimpse of her. Unfortunately I never did.
They must be blue, as the irises are so pale, and most likely she has 'learned' to make her eyes more intense, in fact, I think the French text mentions her eyes being like her Father's...she has a very strong almost masculine face, but piercing eyes.

A jaw you could break rocks with, pale eyes and quite tall. She is the image of her father imho. She lived with her father in St Petersburg and left a vivid description of their life in their flat there. But little about her father. I can't imagine she had an easy childhood.

hi Oakleaf700 i agree about her eyes being likely blue being so pale that's an interesting idea about Maria Rasputin trying to make her eyes more 'intense' - her fame as an animal trainer in the circus was i'm sure in part due to her famous/infamous father who had hypnotic eyes.

Maria Rasputin seemed a beautiful woman, in her own right. I hope she had a happy life, even though she had to leave her home.

Sir Christopher Lee (who Played Rasputin) Met Maria in 1976. He also met the two men who killed him when he was a teenager.
Rasputin's offspring was alive in 1977, that makes you think
Elliott Evans makes you feel in touch with this grisly part of history.
Many contemporaries of Rasputin were still alive in 1977, probably in their 90s. Go watch the film Reds (1980) which has many interviews with people who remembered the revolution.
So what, my grandma was born same year as Maria, and she told me stories about that time....
She was alive when Star Wars came out!
My father, who was a kid in the early '50s, knew a Native American man who was present at the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

That's all I found too, sadly.
