I know a lot of people didn't like this ending. I know the writers were mostly making it up as they went by this point. I know it's emotional music showing me how to feel. I know it's basically just tying up lose threads with what they had left. I know that in any other show it'd feel rushed, hacky, and lazy. But for some reason I fucking adore this scene. The Galactica CIC *is* the opera house. The final five are on the balcony. All Along the Watch Tower is playing and that's somehow awesome rather than contrived. It just works.
yeah, i only found out about this opinion *after* i had finished watching the show. i didnt even know that the writer strike was a thing. i didnt suspect anything, thats how good it was. yes, i didnt agree with their final choices regarding settling earth, but it was still an epic ending that made sense. sometimes peopel tend to overthink these things, and get lost in what they think they couldve had, rather than appreciating what they actually have. that is especially tragic when what they have is already insanely good.
To some extent I always wanted them to find the thirteenth tribe and be part of a version of colonial society. But given the directon the show went I've come to appreciate the total fresh start they opt for.
Weirdly, Cavil reminds me of the Imperius Leader from the original BSG in this scene. Walking calming through the battle taking place in the corridors.
I forgot where I read it online, but some fan once pointed out that the recurring opera house vision/location is fitting because Battlestar Galactica is considered a Space *Opera* and Baltar and 13 being simultaneously being on the opera house stage and Galactica’s CIC because the CIC is one of if not the main set/stage for the space opera
The Cylon steam train powering through the corridors of Galactica made me laugh. It was sweeping aside all the random humans and only got stopped by named characters in the CIC. Although you could argue that the CIC was just well defended...
Over 10 years later, and this scene is still amazing. I do have to ask - whatever became of the actress playing Hera? Would also be cool to visit the Orpheum Theater, and retrace those steps.
It's amazingly poetic, even if it wasn't the writers' original intention, for the CIC to be the Opera House of prophecy because it was where this epic song was performed from the entire time.
I know there's a big discussion about people for and against how this series wrapped up, but all I can think about is "Given how long they've been at war with the Cylons, why are humans STILL using guns that seem to need a full mag dump for even the CHANCE of dropping a centurion? Hell half of them are carrying small caliber SMGs when even 1:10 LMGs seem to be struggling to make a dent. And they HAVE grenade launchers that can one shot them with a direct hit (underslung on their pistols of all things) so why isn't the standard marine weapon something more like a rotary grenade launcher? (Or better yet, given the Sci-fi setting, something more like a Bolter)?" (And if the answer is "You don't want to be blasting willy nilly with grenade launchers INSIDE a Space Ship" my response is "Isn't avoiding a hull breach kind of moot if all the humans in the ship are dead anyway because the Cylons rolled over them with minimal resistance?")
They don't know the new Cylon form as it was revealed just during the attack on Caprica, only the old ones from the First War, and Galactica wasn't probably well equipped as a retired ship. Maybe boarding Cylon ship was not a frequent tactic too ... Anyway yes, this is still a weakness in the plotline. Also Strange that they can't block them with their reinforced doors until they reached CIC.
Just because they have grenade launchers doesn’t mean they have the grenades available. It’s not like the fleet has gun factory that could make the ideal weapons for killing cylons, they use what they have on hand.
I wonder, on the next cycle of "all this has happened before, and it will all happen again", if the Baltar figure and the Six figure will hallucinate they are on a starship in a battle walking onto the CDC with a toddler instead of an opera house walking into the theater with a baby? Was the opera house the last iteration, and they hallucinated they were in whatever came before Kobal? . The lesson here, kiddies, is not the dangers of technology run amok, but rather the lack of wisdom in recognizing and respecting intelligence in whatever form it takes.
@@ES3590 I had no idea it was as mature as it is. I like how they deal with the cylons by having old tech, and how immediately ruthless the cylons are and just nuke everyone haha
@@thewokefindergeneral7631 Yeah it's a little weird because they are referred to as "Cylons" as in multiple Cylon but as a race they are usually called "The Cylon" not "The Cylons".
Almost 2 decades before Andor gets roasted for "Space AKs," We have BSG using Space H&Ks and Space Beretta carbines. Seriously, if we were fighting robots in the DISTANT FUTURE, don't you think we should upgrade from 9mm and 5.56 rounds to something a bit better/more powerful?
It's also a question of what you can mass produce and they do make a point that the Colonials have explosive rounds which can one-shot headshot the Centurions but they are rare.

That bit from 5:00 where they look up at the balcony at the Final Five... Chills every time man.

Just an incredible show - will always be in the top 5 shows ever , in my opinion
I've been looking for this specific clip for a while now. I love the bit where Adama kicks the still standing corpse of Simon. Such a badass moment.
4:52 Man, that dude just _loves_ to bleed from his neck like a fountain ...
Olmos's delivery of "THEY'VE GOT THE LITTLE GIRL!" always stuck out to me. Goofy all around, not necessarily in a bad way.
The centurions are beautiful
The old school centurions are even more beautiful

All of this is made possible by Graystone Industries!
Always loved BSG, can’t wait for the movie long long overdue.

Looking at all this, I wonder how many times there was a war between humans and Cylons in general, and whether we will repeat this scene again.
Cylons 💪
