I think this is only one of a very few editions of TOTP presented by Alan Freeman that still exist. Great song by The Bee Gees but you can clearly see why Robin Gibb hates the song. He must've felt like a spare part not doing anything whilst Barry and Maurice are performing the song.

She even cheekily asked him if he had learned the song that she had sent him that they were going to do 😂. She knew darn well that he and Barry had written it. They then sang this together while he played the piano like in this video and oh man it took my breath away and left me in tears. They were phenomenal. Left ya feeling like they really never got over each other even though they had both been happily remarried to other people. Then just a few months after that performance is when Maurice was gone. He died.

Because the Bee Gees were going bankrupt and their music was already considered out of fashion in the mid-70s. So they hired an Arab producer who was an expert in the kind of sounds that were booming at the time: R&B and Disco Music. Therefore, Barry, Robin and Maurice needed to change the way they sing and use a falsetto to differentiate their songs. And it worked very well commercially, even with the haters.

@@Александра-с6ю2ьYep. He was constantly in pain starting at a pretty young age, including in concerts. He tried to hide it from the crowd but you can still see it on his face and in his eyes. Maurice said he could see it, too. Maurice had his eye on him a lot. It’s so tragic! It’s the fourth tragedy in their family. But he’s managed to live with it all this time. He has longevity, like his mom, perhaps, or hopefully even longer. I hope, however, that he feels good the whole time.

My personal favorite was the back side of the single released in Europe „Lamplight“. I was also 16 years old, first time in youth clubs and discos dancing on Lamplight tight with the girls what we called in German „Schmuseblues“. But als the girls loved Lampligt. Never forget, we all had long hairs like Robin or Barry and when our hairs get in contact (mine I must say) with the hairs of the girls on Lamplight you (me) could hear a very special „Klirr“. @Beyond Your IQ Definitely. Barry was a front man with the looks and stage presence. Robin could write some good songs, but Barry brought them to heights only Elvis and The Beatles saw.
The presence of Robin in this performance surprises and confuses me ! I thought that he disagreed with this song and had already left (temporarily) The Bee Gees including when the group released Don't Forget to Remember. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
@@BGWhisperer Robin wanted his song that he wrote “Lamplight” to be the featured single of the album, but Barry’s “First of May” was chosen. Robin was very upset at the decision, so he left the band for one album before returning.

Because the Bee Gees were going bankrupt and their music was already considered out of fashion in the mid-70s. So they hired an Arab producer who was an expert in the kind of sounds that were booming at the time: R&B and Disco Music. Therefore, Barry, Robin and Maurice needed to change the way they sing and use a falsetto to differentiate their songs. And it worked very well commercially, even with the haters.

@@Александра-с6ю2ьYep. He was constantly in pain starting at a pretty young age, including in concerts. He tried to hide it from the crowd but you can still see it on his face and in his eyes. Maurice said he could see it, too. Maurice had his eye on him a lot. It’s so tragic! It’s the fourth tragedy in their family. But he’s managed to live with it all this time. He has longevity, like his mom, perhaps, or hopefully even longer. I hope, however, that he feels good the whole time.

My personal favorite was the back side of the single released in Europe „Lamplight“. I was also 16 years old, first time in youth clubs and discos dancing on Lamplight tight with the girls what we called in German „Schmuseblues“. But als the girls loved Lampligt. Never forget, we all had long hairs like Robin or Barry and when our hairs get in contact (mine I must say) with the hairs of the girls on Lamplight you (me) could hear a very special „Klirr“. I seem to remember this song had been recorded at the time Robin was on holiday, so that is the reason he doesn't appear to be doing anything.
No, it was just a solo for Barry. Apparently Robin didn’t like that fact.
This had to be rather uncomfortable for Robin, though it appears he is faking a backing vocal at one point just so it looks like he's needed there.
@Beyond Your IQ Definitely. Barry was a front man with the looks and stage presence. Robin could write some good songs, but Barry brought them to heights only Elvis and The Beatles saw.

The presence of Robin in this performance surprises and confuses me ! I thought that he disagreed with this song and had already left (temporarily) The Bee Gees including when the group released Don't Forget to Remember. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I believe this was his last TV appearance with them prior to quitting.

@@BGWhisperer Robin wanted his song that he wrote “Lamplight” to be the featured single of the album, but Barry’s “First of May” was chosen. Robin was very upset at the decision, so he left the band for one album before returning.
I wonder if this is the night he met his wife Linda, since he met her as Miss Edinburgh, at the Top of the Pops in the "late sixties".
