Warren playing "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" on Dave's show prior to his death was absolute perfection. I love Warren and Dave so much."Enjoy every sandwich."
I'm happy Dave mentions JJ Cale as well. I knew him personally in his later years, very great guy. Saw him perform over 2 dozen times. The coolest of cool.
Dave, yet again, showing that he was the best friend Warren's music ever had. Thank you, Dave, for doing your part to expose more people to Warren's music.
I no longer consider the "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame a credible institution. So those of us who are Warren fans can just remember and listen to him as we always have, which is why he made the music in the first place.
It's a joke. And not only because of Warren. That's 90% due to that pos Wenner having a bug up his arse about Warren. But also the actual people that get nominated. Missie Elliot? Joan Baez? Oh ok. And sorry to say it coz we all love him but will someone please tell me what the hell Willie Nelson has to do with rock and roll?
Of the many reasons I love Jerry Garcia, one of my favorites is him not bothering to waste his time showing up to the Dead's induction, which they played well by bringing along a cardboard cutout.
This is emblematic of why I miss Dave nightly. Dave loves music and KNOWS music. When he loved a band or a performer he had on the show, he SHOWED it. He wasn't a cheerleader for any band who appeared, he didn't calmly say "The National, everybody." Example: When The New Pornographers performed, he walked over under the cheers and said "How are you, Neko?" He KNEW. So for him to know immediately The National's new album and its lead singer by name, it's the personal connection that I don't think anyone on late night has, or has had... I just love this.
I miss Dave! True! Dave loves music. I always enjoyed his music segments and background knowledge during interviews. Might be fun-he and Conan would make a good tag team as interviewers because of their love of music.
Is it just me or has Dave’s story delivery, cadence and energy level somehow been restored to when he was in his 30s now that he doesn’t have to crank out a show every night anymore? He’s in top form throughout this video.
Us Warren Zevon fans really shouldn't care if he get's in Hall of fame. We KNOW of his genius and eff the rest of the world if they don't get it. Johnny Rivers shouldbe in all of fame.
Always great to hear from Dave. And I will be forever indebted to him for exposing me to the music of Warren Zevon. Warren was a genius, plain and simple!
I saw Warren in concert here in Chicago many years ago and it was the most fun and best concert I've ever attended. And I've seen The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Springsteen, CSN&Y, Chicago and the Beach Boys.
90% of my favorite bands I discovered from watching The Late Show. It's contribution to the music industry in showcasing indy and non-mainstream bands is often overlooked.
I gave up on he Rock n Roll Hall of Fame a long time ago. Letterman is right that Zevon will never be in the Hall and not sure he would even want to. He will be remembered by those who mattered; the people who bought his music and went to see him perform. I count myself as one of those lucky people.
This just reinforces my thought that Todd Rundgren treated his nomination with the respect it deserved. In any true R&R Hall of Fame that actually used talent and importance to the genre as criteria for induction, Zevon would have been inducted the 1st year of eligibility.
Literally the only time I ever hear about the R&R Hall of Fame is when people are complaining about hugely deserving, obvious, glaring omissions. It happens every year, and will continue to do so until the heat death of the universe.
I miss Dave for selfish reasons. His humor brought me comfort for so many years and now while the world is falling apart we have no one that fills that spot. We are on our own and I miss the laughter. People said no one could take Carson’s place but Dave did but no one has come close to Dave.
Slade: an influence on bands from The Ramones to Nirvana, charting 17 Top 20 hits in a 6-year span in the UK, 6 of those songs reaching #1. David, yes overdue on Warren Zevon and it does make the so called honor greatly reduced. If not hollow. There are many in the same circumstance of having been disrespected for so long. My personal disbelief and now resignation that he will never be acknowledged is Peter Frampton. I actually would have assumed Warren was in. I’ve been on a Warren tear this past week, great great stuff. Nothing like firing up the coffee machine in the morning to Lawyers, Guns and Money!
Warren was good friends with brothers from a wealthy family of eccentrics living on a big spread in Kingwood NJ. That song was written about them 😊
