  • ✿ ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ Hey guys! In this video, I provided some essential tips that will help prepare you for your trip to Japan, especially if it's your first time flying internationally. I caught a bad cold after I filmed this video, so apologies for the voiceovers if they sound stuffy lol I hope you guys found this video helpful, and let me know if there's anything I could've mentioned; I might do a part two. I will do another video on helpful tips I didn't realize until I got there, i.e. locker storage, ordering at a restaurant, etc. Also, a video of suggested places to eat, recommended cities, temples & more! Subscribe and hit that bell if you want the first to get notice of those videos! I've linked (below↓) the sites I mentioned in the video regarding the fast-track experience while exiting the airport in japan, prohibited medications without a certificate, and others you might want to check out before you 🛫

    The last time I flew to Japan I REALLY needed eyedrops. The air on the plane is so dry, and you're pretty sleep deprived by the time you arrive. I was actually afraid that I had pink eye, but after arriving and having a good sleep, my eyes were a lot better. But I recommend eye drops!

    An alternative for phone service is a pocket wi-fi unit. They are cheaper than international service from your domestic provider, you don't have to alter your phone or keep track of your SIM card, multiple users/devices can use the signal, and they give you wi-fi with no need to log in to hotel or station wi-fi wherever you go. I guess the only issues are carrying it around (they are the size of a phone or smaller) and keeping it charged, They can be reserved ahead of time via several web sites. I have used them on many trips and will continue to do so. Also, Donna mentions the IC cards for transportation, but that applies mostly to subway and local train trips; they are not as useful for inter-city trains like shinkansen. If you are planning on more than two shinkansen trips (or more than one round trip), the Japan Rail Pass is worth the money and is a great time and headache saver. 🙂

      @maryamrainwater5341 Год назад +2

      I have looked into getting pocket wifi and ruling out the international service completely just because of the price difference. I don't think I will need to call anyone and if anyone needs to contact me, I'm sure they can use iMessage, Facetime or messenger. Is that how you went about it too?

    • @scottb828
      @scottb828 Год назад +2

      @@maryamrainwater5341 Exactly. Actual phone calls are the least used function on my phone, especially when traveling.

      Yeah that was my first option but then found an e-sim which is also a cheaper solution (South Korea). Just ensure you don’t need to use most services that requires phone verification 😅

    Very helpful. As to medications, I am a senior citizen and several meds for heart and cholesterol, and blood pressure control. All bottles have original labels, so should be okay. But interesting that you can only bring a one month's supply when a tourist can stay up to 90 days. I suppose that one would have to get an import certificate to stay beyond 30 days. Thanks for the advice.

    Great video summary of all the packing tips and regulations! One other train card to get BEFORE you leave is the JR Pass if you plan on going to multiple cities. I am researching for my first Japan trip and this type of pass can only be purchased before you get to Japan, otherwise you just buy individual train tickets.

    • @heyyyitsdonna
      @heyyyitsdonna  Год назад

      Yes! This is an essential tip because the JR pass discount is only for tourists, and you cannot purchase the pass when you arrive. 😊As you said, it's worth the purchase if you're planning on visiting multiple cities. Thanks for sharing 💕

      P.S!!! JR pass is very worth it if you’re riding the bullet train multiple times during your trip, but otherwise check if the trains you’re riding are JR! Most of the trains I used on my trip were not JR, so the JR pass would not save a person like me any money! Check before you buy!

    Been to Japan a lot. Feel I was the last one out back in March 2020 and happy to be going back this year finally. April trip? Sakura season, Japanese are crazy about the cherry blossoms, it'll be shown on the news like a weather map. Kyoto, hmmm... theres the castle, the tower, old town Geisha district, Bamboo grove, you may even find an onsen in your downtown hotel. Kyoto ropeway is cool. Seems like these (aerial trams) are to be found all over Japan. I would suggest a side trip to Nara to feed the crazy deer, tell em Arigato, they will give a quick bow and expect another cookie! haha. US Mens XL shirt, good luck finding that size in Japan. I like to shop for gifts to bring home the last day, even Narita has a lot of decent shops. And for the guys, bring a suite. Some events in Japan are formal so don't be that American slob. Women can wear a colorful kimono and be just fine. Might want to get a 'Visit Japan Web' account for the covid stuff.

    What is your favorite thing to do in Japan? I'm glad you mentioned just using a data plan. All other Japan travel tip videos say to get a sim card. It's my first time going, and I'm feeling overwhelmed🫨.

    • @heyyyitsdonna
      @heyyyitsdonna  Год назад +3

      Traveling internationally can be a bit overwhelming. That's why I suggest mapping out your days/activities when you're visiting. Also, you should plan out restaurants near those areas in case you get hungry and want to avoid getting stuck in a tourist trap. Yes, most tip videos say to get a SIM card which is budget-friendly, but I would instead work with my phone provider and have one less thing to worry about.
      My favorite thing to do is Disney Sea in Tokyo (if you're a Disney fan), the Teamlab expo is really cool, visiting Nara to see the deers and Todai-ji Temple, Arashiyama if you're in Kyoto, Maruyama Park in Kyoto at night where you can snack under the cherry blossoms, Tokyo for shopping and great eats!

    • @heyyyitsdonna
      @heyyyitsdonna  Год назад

      Glad you found it helpful! Japan outlet is a type A & B plug (two flat parallel pins that plug into the outlet), and their standard voltage is 100v. You'll need a voltage converter if your appliances are higher. I would check to see which appliances you're planning on using there since they might be dual voltage, so a converter isn't necessary. ☺

      TSA does not require over the counter medications to be in their original packaging. However, using the original containers may limit delays or additional questioning. Prescription medications should be in their original containers with the doctor's prescription printed on the container.
