In this track Alistair's bass sounds like J.J B from stranglers, to me at least, check the title.. In Christchurch there was this shithole called the Gladstone..saw them, loved this band
Thanks Michel, quite so. Unfortunately 75% of the info given by RUclips is wrong concerning The Gordons , they assume too much and it is rewriting our history incorrectly. However the above song 'Sometimes' was sung by Al, Brent played gat, and I played drums for the 1st time ever I don't know who made the vid, but it is not a Gordons product
We were not Christians, 3 free minded individuals who wrote whatever we felt at the time. It may seem Christianized to you, but that is just the filter through which you judge.
@@johnhalvorsen1383 Undoubtedly arose from conjecture over the album. We were expecting 'Head Injury', 'Quality Control', and 'Crisis Time' et al; and the new songs had a different sound; looser and almost trance-y. Case in point was 'Coal Miner's Song', which was by taken by some as proof of the band having some kind of 'spiritual' awakening' or such. I do apologise for putting it so 'directly' , though. You're right right, of course; though in retrospect you can see why this 'Christian Gordons' thing came up. Believe it or not, it was a much-assumed conclusion to the different music, given that the Gordons Mk 1 were kind of 'winding down' (this is all from a fan's perspective, mind) anyway. Next exhibit would have been the Christian band Alistair had after the Gordons. Yes, you put two and two together, you sometimes get five. When there is doubt, we fill the cracks with conjecture. We just wondered what happened? PS It wasn't just me and the people I knew; it went around the whole 'Gladstone' cross-section before it got to me... Actually, while I edit this, the lyrics to 'Coal Miner's Song' also pointed to some sort of spiritual event akin to 'seeing the light'... Now that I write this down, it all sounds like a 'Paul is Dead'...
Fantastic live band,the energy,the sound,the noise,Kia Kaha!
Thanks!

Great stuff: saw them in WGTN, all the punks got hauled out before they went on and I escaped back inside from the paddy wagon

The singer on Spik and Span was John Halvorsen, not Alister Parker.

This is the only track on the album which sounds like the early, non-Christianised Gordons. Cheers!

? I can't imagine where you get the idea we were a Christian band, that's absurd, was never the case.
