@David Ludwigs no, all mainstream movies have a voice actor per character and movies made originally in Poland also have different voice actors. There are definitely some movies that a random kid dubbed in their basement but that's the very small minority.
English Armin: Gives off a horrific, shrill and visceral scream that denotes his absolute and sheer terror and wish to continue living.
What audiences (apparently) actually want: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
the people that complained are probably fangirls that just clowned him for sounding dramatic when he's literally seeing his oncoming death
Id say it's more about that it sounds so different from what dub people expect from a scream. The armin scream sounds very much like what a Japanese voice actor would do instead of what people are used to in dubs.

true it is good but I feel the reason I personally feel its a bit weird(for armin) is because I am used to the Japanese voice of armin, it is just that the usual armin has a more high pitched voice and scream. but tbh the English armin sounds really good better than most dubs I heard it has the right emotion just lower pitched that what im used to hearing admin sound like

Yeah I think the older Sailor Moon dub was pretty fun. They had slip ups here and there but my issue is more with the censoring, less the actors.
I'm super biased because I grew up with it, so it's nice to hear that others find it charming.
I feel like peeps didn’t like Armin’s scream because it wasn’t pleasant to the ears but like most screams of PURE SHOCK and HORROR aren’t really pleasant to hear either way so idk what they we’re expecting. He sounded genuinely terrified, that scream sounded like it hurt
Armin’s scream was amazing. If I heard that scream while walking in the park I would have called the police ASAP.
As a Singaporean, I am proud that we have produced such a legendary dub of Yu-Gi-Oh. Really sets the standards for acting in our country.
Honestly, the quality of the voicework is pretty decent. Probably the best English voicework I've heard out of an SEA country, though my basis for comparison is shit like the Malaysian-English dub of DBZ so, you know.

I'm legitimately surprised that you didn't initially recognize Mark Hamill's voice in one of the last vids. His voice has a sinister ring to it that I can always identify, though I usually hear the Joker to some extent whenever his voice goes through my ears.
Great video though, definitely gave me a lot of laughs hearing your reaction to some of these (as well as just the "performances" themselves)! I lost it at the one where they said "don't boink him"...

The Accelerator clips at the end get me very time because they're hilarious but also so in character lol unhinged and strange- so proud to say Nobuhiko is a top tier VA in my opinion.

@@kidkatanatv sadly most of the time when it airs its competing with big names that become like... the overhyped media of the year and it gets pushed to the back line. Which I get some things are more popular but other shows get put to the side.

That Sailor Moon inner voice reminded me of Fry's Lucy Liu's robo waifu whenever she said some "system quote"
Honestly, I think Armin's scream sounds particularly good in isolation from the voice acting before it. If this was all I hear (not comparing it to the voice acting before it) I would be sold on it
Old, but to explain the Accelerator noises: It says "Accelerator laughing" but that's not exactly accurate. He _is_ laughing at parts, but the "kekkekkkeekkeke" noise he does is him using his voice to generate plasma. He's literally making weird noises with his mouth, teeth and tongue to create vectors (his "ability") in the air in order to create plasma. Accelerator doing this makes no sense at first, as he goes on and on for awhile like this, and even the other characters are like "WTF dude?" and then they look up and see a giant ball of pure plasma above their line of sight ready to just completely melt them down to nothing.
The whole reason Accelerator even does this in the first place is because at that point in the episode, he's lost the use of most of his limbs and so the only tool he has left is his voice. It's meant to show how stupidly overpowered his ability is, that he can do shit no one in their right mind would ever think to do and to pull it off meticulously. It is _really_ annoyingly odd the first time you hear it, though once you begin recognizing his VA as being one of the best in the industry (he's won, like, _every_ award for voice acting in Japan) you start to understand that he doesn't just do random-ass noises for no reason.

I think with a lot of these dubs they suffer 1 of a few key issues.
1. Lack of direction.
2. editors cutting the sound too early or silencing the noise. The 2nd part could be fixed for the most part by readding some "room noise"
3. Some are just bad but most of it boils down to timing.. most of them feeling rushed. Or talking with an upward inflection so that it sounds more like a question than a statement. Dialogue doesn't bounce back and forth if you don't talk like you're talking to someone else. I think if they pretended to be saying this to someone rather than just saying the line it makes the difference between sounding like dialogue and giving a speech. The only time the speech approach works is during a monologue

I’ve never done voice acting, but as someone who does theatre enunciation is something we hit. Where I’m from, most t’s sound like d’s, So we ALWAYS have to pronounce those things. God I miss theatre
I love how you noted that the voices in the Singaporen Yugioh dub are actually okay and that its the shitty script that ruins it. It is ironic tho because the Singaporean lines are a much closer translation of the Japanese script compared to the official english dub

Easy enough for me cos my laugh is like a wheeze or just blowing air hard out of my nose and smiling.
I'm not entirely sure why, but doing spontaneous laughter whenever I want actually is extremely easy for me. I can't really figure out the right wording to describe how I do it, but I basically just need to both exhale and try to not exhale at the same time and it kicks off. The harder thing is actually stopping after I've started. If I do it in a small burst it's easy, but if I'm doing hysterical laughter (or an evil laugh) then I actually usually just lose control over it. I don't even have a use for this usually, I just decided to try doing it a while back and found it simple. It is pretty good for social manipulation though, since people can't tell when I've manually laughed from when it's in reaction to something unless it's weirdly out of place.
Armin's scream is REALLY good. it gives me chills every time. perfectly captures the absolute terror one would feel in those situations in my opinion
The voice acting in AOT actually gives me an uncanny valley feeling because it's so good.

It's dub is just overall really good, it sounds great and is directed very well

I completely agree! I feel like both the dub and the sub did phenomenal jobs.
They actually asked Armin's VA (Joshua Grelle) to do the scream in the panel room and he explained that it was extremely difficult so when he tried to do it again it really hurt his throat.
I've met him too and he's such a nice guy.

I never had a problem with the delivery either because to me it sounded like irritated and resigned disbelief.... like the kind of tone you have when you realize the solution to a puzzle was something super obvious but you didn't even consider it, which is pretty much what happened here.
Someone in the comments section of that clip said "This girl just realised that this guy she has a crush on has seen all of the dumb shit she's ever done" and I gotta say, along with everything else in this thread, I'm seeing, hearing and feeling it
@@Groovebot3k The problem with clips like that is a lot of people take them out of context or assume the comedy of the scene is somehow ironic, like "this sounds robotic, and that's funny because it's bad acting" instead of "this sounds intentionally robotic, and it's a funny reaction to the situation".
