What do you think of Lady Macbeth's character? Is she an outright villain or is there some room for sympathy?

I think there is some room for sympathy - similar to a prisoner feeling remorse for his/her crime. Lady Macbeth clearly felt remorse. I think there was a recognition in her that she should not have stepped out of her role in society at all, despite seeing the role as wife of the king as desirable. Just another person grasping for honour and doing it greedily all the while breaking natural and man-made laws. So, some sympathy for her remorse, but an acceptance that she did bring this on herself.

I have recently started looking at the Macbeths from the following point of view- he is suffering from PTSD and she is suffering from Post Natal depression. These two conditions can explain a lot of why they do the things that they do. Macbeth and his paranoia and LM's descent into psychosis.

Lady Mcbeth is basically every guys manipulative gas-lighting ex. "If you were a REAL man you would do x,y,z." Usually x,y,z is something that benefits her.

Lady Macbeth wasn't as cold blooded as she believed she was.
Macbeth was more cold blooded than he realised.
She pushed him past his own moral event horizon, at which point she realised she paid too high a price for power whereas he realised there's no depths he won't go to keep it.
