I kind of relate to the video, maybe I'm not that akward but going outside just seems like empty places with a few people together in groups. Going outside and start talking to people seems like a good idea, but it's not the way socializing works... to make friends or gf.. I need to go to the same place with the same people there, multiple times.
school is the perfect place for that, once you have graduated, it's way harder.

@@GomulDart Yeah if I'm out walking and there's not many other people out I'll typically say at least a quick what's up or how's it goin' as I pass people. They usually respond. If there are a lot of pedestrians I won't bother.

I actually met you IRL in like 2013 at a bar in the Provo, UT area (I was on holiday from NZ) and can confirm you were just as awkward irl but slightly less exaggerated lol respect. you also used to have this random blog about ur earlier dating and depression and entrepeneurial stuff (not your main one it was like a blogspot or something). i remember i resonated with it when i was younger. you were a really good writer.

That's exactly me when i first come to US. I was amazed by people's friendliness in US compared to my home country.
I said "Hi" to almost every person on street (that was small town though). Never met aggressive reaction. Made a great friend that way with whom we often chat even after 15 years.

lol such a deep piece, this is like ur old pranks but mixed with like, idk instead of it being a "social experiment", its like actually a social experiment. How do people respond when you randomly say hi, combined with a "weird voice" thang. It'd be cool to see it contrasted with a really deep confident voice and what reactions you'd get there.
What's interesting is having worked with adults and children with autism, dementia and every condition know to man, I've never shied away from being respectful and treating everyone the same regardless.

How far has our society come that we watch people doing something as simple as greeting someone for entertainment.
i'd actually like to see a normal "hi" to people as a modern social experiment
normal and at a closer distance.
that would just be "hey whats up" as you pass someone by. not very interesting
just a little closer than Andrew was at some points. Normal "hi" as in not in Andrew's intentionally slightly phony, high pitched "hi". I think it would be valuable social info, broken down by reactions from couples, groups, singles, ppl with dogs, different ages, genders, etc.@@billtalent1

People do say hi like this in some places (albeit much less awkwardly). Go to the Lake District (in the north of England), for example, and strangers smile and wave at you all the time. It's lovely!
where i grew up everyone used to say hi to each other and wasnt that much of small town (but also not that huge). People were just friendly and if happened to be 2 or more people together doing nothing , they would say hi (im not talking about breaking someone's conversation just to say hi)

I was raised by older parents, and as a young kid and currently I always say hello to people, and they usually give me dirty looks. Occasionally I get a hello back. How sad it has come to this.

You can only say hi on social media
people don't just hang out as much as they used to thanks to the internet. back in the day, you'd have to go to the park, skatepark, downtown, bookstore, library, or something of that nature to interact with people
