- I have a solution to help USC stop losing verbal commitments and I explain why USC needs to change the way they do business. With that said, I think USC got another commitment.

Recruiting is in chaos! Without some rules, it will continue to deteriorate! For starters, SC should stop asking for a commitment. I love ALL of your “solutions”!!! Until there are rules in place, buckle up, because things will get much worse before it gets better.

Things are different now then when we grew up. I remember growing up my Dad telling me if you start something you’re not quitting. If you give your word and shake hands you fulfill that. Probably why I have been very successful in life. Think before you stick your neck out. Hey but times change and I guess people don’t believe in that anymore. I guess that’s ok also for the times we have now.
Have you quit any jobs? How many jobs have you quit? And went to another job or company for more money and better benefits?
There wasn't so much money involved back then.
Why keep your current spot when you can get a better one and get paid? This is how it works now, adapt or die.

How many players in the NFL or any professional sports league can quit the team they’re currently under contract with and go play for another team without some serious consequences? So don’t compare it to you or me or somebody working at McDonald’s and quitting to go work at Jack-in-the-Box it’s not even in the same freaking stratosphere.

Just cause it hurt grown mens feelings they decommitted from our school. These kids haven't even started their senior of high school. Decommitments has been happening long before todays era. So i don't want to hear its a generational thing. Why did bush choose usc over other schools? Money. But In my generation... b.s. its same today as yesterday money talks. This is america, capitalism. I’m saying don’t take a verbal commitment(going forward since the schools will be paying players directly under a salary, cap type of structure)--so if somebody wants to work for Lincoln Riley at USC, then sign the contract.

In California, the relationship of employer and employee is generally “at will.” This means that, without an employment contract, the employer or the employee can terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause. Does SC have actual contracts?
Should 90 day probation periods apply?
I mean they want compensation as an employee so if the performance isn’t there then it should go both ways and if term then $$$ is prorated. Let’s have the consequences go both ways.
If you meet performance goals then let’s give additional incentives.
They are employees in my opinion. No point of giving verbals.

Great show, Marc. I always hated those weak sister games, which my Sooners always scheduled. SC always had tougher schedules . To be the best, you have to play the best.

Agree, there has to be something in place to hold kids accountable. I said 2 years ago, verbal commitments no longer hold value. Even if Julian comes to SC, he will not be the starter as a freshman, will he jump in the portal? Maiava is back next year, and based on this season, so could Miller Moss. I wouldn't be shocked if Julian doesn't come to SC, kids don't want to battle nor wait their turn.
Today, this young generation thinks they are entitled. They don't want to make sacrifices or earn their goal in life.

Being able to pay these players directly. I sure hope they At least set up some sort of contractual agreement so these kids coming in have to commit to the program and not run away once things get tough and their suddenly 2nd string or special teams.

It's a disaster the nil is in shambles. How this late in the game. USC is not paying the promises I've heard. Oral contracts are only legally binding if they are under a certain amount of money involved otherwise non bonding. That's not the issue at SC now. Nobody is going to commit and the 25 class is coming apart. Player's need to get paid everybody else does
The 25 has not been etched to say it’s coming apart, even with the “hard” commits - “Juju” commits.

I agree this has nothing to do with verbal commitments. It is one side of the verbal contract not living up to the terms . If these kids are being promised financial benefits and when it is time to pay up and SC doesn’t of course they are going to leave or not stay committed. The rest of this conversation Marc my man in all due respect is Bullshit . What player , parent or agent will allow themselves to go to play for a school that breaks its promise - none . It’s one thing if SC says hey we can only pay this much and the kid says no thanks I can go here , get developed and paid . But when you lie to a kid and not follow up you have lost more than the kid you lost your integrity . This is a complete cluster Fck. It starts with Carol then Jen and then the collective . You mean a school that had $6.9 billion in revenue last year up over $802 million year in year can’t find $20 to $30 mil for players . If the collective is so inept , have the university chip in . With the new ruling , they can do whatever they want pretty much . If this is not straightened out in the next few weeks , we will not only loose recruits we will loose our coaches . I just don’t get it , they spend all this money on coaches and new facilities then don’t finish the job and pay the players . Unfortunately this is the new world and either pay or dissolve. Especially when you are trying to rebuild a program that has been in the wilderness for over a decade . Once you become a national contender you have more negotiating power . Until then you must pay up . Marc so sorry for being up in my feelings but this so far feels like another SC clown show that got us here to begin with . Riley was promised full support and he certainly is not getting it . He will have no choice to leave after this season if it is not fixed . The poor guy had to deal with not paying DL this year so he could have the money for 2025. Now what . ?

As far as i know Gibson and Terry hasn't committed anywhere else yet can it be possible they can booth recommit at some point

Just trying to keep hope alive...I believe it was Terry who's mother and lil sister was going to move to LA I thought they were going to be looking for a new school for lil sis on this week's visit...then he abruptly cancels his trip days before official visit...not sure if it was a job for mother that was promised or just NIL money but hopefully it can be worked out and fixed
The huuuuge problem with our recruiting is we are not putting the Westcoast & California kids 1st in recruiting smh there being treated as 2nd and 3rd class citizens while Oregon and other schools treats our own recruits from the Westcoast better than we do, we need to stop trying to go for Georgia recruits sooo hard and go after our own kids 1st then fill out roster with other kids from other states we are wasting resources only for them to decommit

The problem is that they are only kids and God only knows who’s talking to them outside of their family. Also, maybe they felt pressured at the time and it truly wasn’t the right place for them. I suppose it could get confusing for 17 year-old maybe the recruiting window is too big too much time.

I said last year the pendulum was swinging waaaay to far in the players favor. NIL programs need to be revamped and your suggestions of employee contracts with either years or non compete are spot on.

Really enjoy your show, huge OU fan, but after spending time in California during my time in the USMC became a USC fan. USC is better than Lincoln Riley , he would have been fired by now if he stayed at Okla. He was given the ou job with everything in place. Slowly he turned the program soft. USC is better than LR. They need to promote the new D coordinator to head man.
Scott Schrader on We are Sc…and is dialed in, says the two recent decomits were not because of NIL. Maybe NIL isn’t the problem. I don’t know…maybe just handing a bag with nothing in writing is what’s being done by other universities and we aren’t playing that game?
This is what I will say with the NIL issue.--there’s a lot of information with a lot of people pulling in different directions and it’s frustrating a lot of people

You should never pay a recruit before they sign. I think HOV came to their senses. It would have been a waste of money had HOV gave them money. They were only using USC and never had any intentions of signing.
@@TrojansFirst I heard on another podcast that HOV wasn’t true to their word. I cannot imagine that being true but it was mentioned.
Official visits should be scheduled after all the OVs to other schools… other schools are using their visits to us as leverage… why don’t we (early commits Justus and Isaiah)…but I think the coaches themselves were finger-crossed and other moves are already considered
The fact that the playoffs are expanding and a loss or two won't hurt. There's no excuse for USC or anyone to schedule easy games. I don't care if Lincoln Riley or any USC coach has a shelf full of National Championships and Heismans. If he schedules one non bowl subdivision team. He should be fired on the spot.

These are uncharted waters, and almost everyone is sailing blind. Until the college Presidents get together and agree to some rules & regulations, then we’ll be adrift in a sea of pirates and privateers. Unless the universities want to shift to club teams-associated but operating independently-they are still composed of university student-athletes, with presidents and courts having the last word. A free education is no longer the coin of the realm. Athletes who once labored in indentured servitude have taken the upper hand. It’s beneficial for all to agree to some binding and mutual standards of operation.✌️

Riley left a program in much better shape than SC at that time, yes you can say for the money…I think more for the personal challenge and the desire to make his mark at SC, not just any other institution, a la McKay/Robinson/Carrol. He said so in his speech of acceptance…I think him of a man of this integrity. Our coaches are not idle in maneuvering through all this. At WORST SC has players, good players mind you, that are going to be developed well by our awesome coaches to be championship caliber and ready. Pundits are exploding away with a handful of 5star decoms. The team is still great, in a great place and situation, and will be coached well and up.

I've been saying for the last 2 years that verbal commitments mean nothing, so why accept them at this point. SC needs to really needs vet these kids before making any sort of contractual agreement. I'm none following recruiting it's like being in a toxic relationship. Let me know when they sign their National Letter of Intent. Fight On!!
Lincoln Riley is headed to the NFL after this year USC needs to find a Young Defense coach from the Big 10.
I honestly can't blame him! To have a successful program, you have to be on the same page from the top down. And usc coaching staff and house of victorys isn't .

Guys the NIL has teams operating like a JUCO program it’s a eighteen month plan not a three or four year one and most have not adjusted.
It's not NIL. You got Dawg worked by Kirby Smart. Stay out of Kirby's way and you can sign anyone you want. Stay out of Georgia. You are not on UGAs level.
It is the Big 10 conference, not the Big 18, not the Big 12, and certainly not the Big conference. The Big 10 is a part of college football tradition (just like USC uniforms). For that matter, would you actually want USC to put "the big conference" on their helmets and uniforms. Of course not, it is the Big 10.
I’m not sure. Contracts with Minor children might be :
1. Illegal
2. Voidable as opposed to binding

OU just got a commitment from Jaden O’Neal. A 5* QB from LA? Maybe Riley just can’t recruit.

Then take 38 official and unofficial visits and they're gone. In December, when its LOI day, then it matters.. They never had Justis Terry or Isiah Gibson unfortunately.
In fairness to Justus and Isaiah, kids, if they don’t recommit they did not lead SC on further…big signs of maturity in a difficult, complicated world which is the world of high level college administrators and lawyers and advertising…on top of recognizing family values and needs!!! I’m not down on the kids, rather I’m down on the process “recruiting” has adopted. Granted it’s all new and still being worked on.

Riley fixed the offense at a rapid rate because it's what he knows. With Grinch our defense went soft. Keeping Donte brought recruits however he's not a developer & unfortunately it showed.
Let see how we do defensively, a top 40+ would be great. Especially if it's with that Pete Cartoll physicality.
@@5555emerson let me rephrase it when Pete Carroll took over from Paul Hackett. I think we could say that the talent level was similar to the one that Lincoln Riley inherited when he took over. And, Pete did not have the benefit of the transfer portal.
But you could see even in year one despite all of those close losses, the team was getting better and by the end of year two nobody wanted to play that team.
And we know what happened in year three it became a dynasty

I don’t think USC should be scheduling top non conference games now . At least until they can build the program up to a top ten national program . This year they are playing two top ten out of conference teams , LSU and ND. Now being in the big ten their schedule is hard enough . If we loose to both LSU and ND we are basically already out of the championship round . We seem to agree it will take a 10 win season to go to the playoffs. So let’s look at the real tough danger games ; LSU , ND , PS, MI not to mention a sleeper team like Maryland . So why would we continue to schedule tough non conference games excluding ND. Which I think we need to keep as a decades long tradition . So until we get our team to the elite college level , it doesn’t make sense to schedule non conference top teams .

Remember during the spring and I brought this up before, Longstreet showed up to a spring practice at 5 AM two days before he made his commitment to Texas A&M. During that time he and Coach Riley were talking for quite a while, and I think Longstreet knows what will happen✌🏼

I've talked to and know some families like this, but These players parents are using their children now to do the things they failed to do as parents. And that's provide/Take care of their families. They want that money for themselves. Dahell with education and life after football, right? They want money right now. I'm not against these players getting some money, but this BS is ridiculous.
