Starting January 10, 2022, join me as I take an International Food Journey and test the recipes of some of the world's best culinary masters!
Hello everybody!!! Welcome to Denay's Test Kitchen. Let's take a virtual food journey around the globe.
I have always been interested in foods from around the globe. My mother's best friend was from the Virgin Islands, she taught mom how to make Danish Pastry from scratch, and my dad sponsored a man (Raj) from New Delhi; and I can still remember my mom raving about Gulab Jamun, a dish taught to her by Raj's wife.
Are you ready to get started? Grab a seat and a glass of wine and let's get started!

Dear Denay,
it has been a month or so, since I first saw this video. I have since made your pie crust, no less than three times. It is such a game changer! Finally - I, of the hot hands, can make pastry crust! As someone who cooks nearly every meal at home, and has a backyard fruit orchard, and whose hands are too hot to make ice water pastry - I offer you my humblest gratitude. You, madame, have saved my pies! 😆🥰
Sincerely,
Formerly Frustrated in Wales (UK)
Greetings Jynxxyycat... so happy the pastry crust recipe worked for you. It has been around for years in my family and was one of the first recipes I learned with I was a little girl making fruit pies. Thank you for your kind words. Wishing you a pie-filled 2022! 🥧
This is amazing 😉 never seen a recipe like this before
This recipe was popular in the 1930s.
You did a great job on this video, Denay. I'm going to give this recipe a try tomorrow. Ray.
Let me know how it turns out Ray. Happy Memorial Day.
Ray
WOW, I gotta try this. My baking skills are horrible, but hopefully this will help
This is a simple recipe that has been around for 100 years, you can do it. Let me know how your pie crust turns out. It is also a great crust for chicken pot pie.
Excellent! Thank you for sharing
can I use olive oil instead of canola in this recipe
No, but you can use almond oil.
Thank you Denay
Can I use melted butter instead of hot water?
Nice pie crust.
can I use a electronic mixer? I don't have a kitchen aid
How long does it cook for?
Karen, about 45 minutes to 1 hour, not longer.
Do you have any pictures that show it once it's baked?
No Doris, but I will make a video of my Buttermilk Coconut pie withthis crust for 2023.
Do you show baked crust
Brenda Wood ... I don't think I show a baked crust, but let me pull once together before the end of the year and I will post it for you. You might want to pick up my pie cookbook too. It's on Amazon. I have a pie boutique in Charlotte, NC some years ago. Here's the link: amzn.to/3up93zd
the canola oil is a no go
Canola oil is not healthy could you use warm ghee
Grape seed oil would be healthier
Yes, it is, in fact today I use almond oil, but back in the day we used what we had. I hear ya... healthy is better, Brenda! Thanks for dropping by.
