    Say hello to the Peugeot e308 - the all-electric version of Peugeot’s chic five-door hatchback. It’s the latest battery-powered model to join Stellantis’s rapidly expanding range of electric cars and shares much of its underpinnings, battery and motors with the new Vauxhall Astra Electric.
    It will be sold alongside the existing plug-in hybrid, petrol and diesel versions of the 308, and comes with an impressive WLTP range of up to 257 miles. It gets a 156bhp electric motor that drives the front wheels, and power comes from a 54kWh lithium-ion battery. There are no plans for a four-wheel drive version.
    As with other existing pure-electric Peugeots, the Peugeot e-308 has rapid charging of up to 100kW, which means it can deliver a 10-to-80% battery charge in around 35 minutesA full battery at a 7kW home wallbox will take around eight hours.
    It is also (as you may have noticed) a traditional hatchback rather than an SUV. Will this be the car to convert the traditionalist to electric?
    Join Nicola as she takes the Peugeot e308 on the road in the UK for the first time. Are you a fan? Will it be on your shortlist for 2024? As always, we love to hear your comments so please let us know what you think below.

    A lot of people mention speed all the time in comments , been driving 52 years and realised it not about speed ( you’re not on a race track ) 5 seconds to 60 is fast enough , it’s more about efficiency, range in town cars meant for towns 140 miles is massive. Out of town 250-300 miles is sufficient, you do need a decent break 1/2 hour to top up with food , charge your ev etc . Ps I also drive motorbikes , my current bike 0- 60 mph just under 4 secs plenty fast enough only used for overtakes , top speed of bike is 70mph . Could go twice that but I’d be in a box 🤪. Don’t please tell me I’m dull , I’ve done track days and been over 140mph . 😊😊👍👍👍

    I got the hybrid 508 last year and man I love it. Didn’t like the standard 18 inch wheels so paid for the 19 inch ones and it’s perfect now. All black. The steering wheel is just perfect and the driving position is fantastic. With 220bhp, it’s perfect for long journeys. I’m just shocked that Peugeot chose to release ANOTHER hybrid 508 for 2023 instead of going full electric like this e-308 🤦🏾‍♂️

    • @pmholling
      @pmholling 7 месяцев назад +2

      The new 508 is really only a refresh of the current one. Peugeot/Stellantis are at a junction. The 508 and these 308s are on the old, outgoing (e)-EMP platform. The replacement STLA-M is not quite ready yet. The new E-3008 will be the first car on that platform, hopefully showing up in the new year. Once that is bedded in I would expect the replacements of the other EMP cars to happen in due course. Of course Peugeot will want a good few years out of the current 308 as it is a recent version

    Good car, and decent review. One small thing - you keep talking about "efficient batteries" - but this is misguided - it is mainly the inverter, motor, drivetrain, tires and aerodynamics (plus heatpump, etc) which makes an EV efficient, not the battery per se. If all of those aspects are efficient, yes the battery can be a more modest capacity for a given range. Stellantis keep making good tweaks to the platform efficiency, and should be congratulated.

    • @brice9384
      @brice9384 7 месяцев назад

      If you shave a couple hundred kilos from the battery you can shave some weight as well from other parts of the cars like brakes. Lighter means more efficient. I guess this is where the gain from the battery originates from

    I was looking rather forward to learning more about this car, but they absolutely dropped the ball on the performance.
    I don't need a 4, 5 or even 6 second 0-100 km/h car. But this close to 10 seconds just isn't cutting it for me. It's almost as slow as my old 1,2L Peugeot 208.

    Manufacturers are going to have to produce cars like this if they’ve any hope of bringing EVs to the ordinary public.
    Interesting that it didn’t come completely to a stop.
    I recently hired a Polestar 2 & I’d say that was its killer feature (you can obviously turn it off) but when moving in traffic all you have to do is lift off the accelerator completely & the car stops & just sits there until the traffic is moving again.

    • @Trnquill
      @Trnquill 7 месяцев назад

      Indeed, interesting choice from Peugeot. But then again, many manufacturers are the same. Not even half of models available now have one pedal driving. Huge wasted opportunity! It should be a togglable feature just like in Polestar so the drivers could decide themselves. One pedal driving is one of the best features in EV's for sure!
      As another example Nissan decided to "modify" the one pedal driving for Ariya. In Leaf it works amazingly well, regenerating harder if there's traffic ahead etc. and comes to a complete stop as expected. However, Ariay according to marketing "has one pedal driving but it's disabled at low speeds"! 🤣 So... it does not have one pedal driving!
      By the way you sort-of get one pedal driving on Peugeot with adaptive cruise control. If there's someone in front of you and they stop, you stop. Then you'll just press the pedal to start driving again. So, the car sure knows how to "one pedal drive", it's just their decision not to offer it as a feature. Sad!

    • @MotorScotti
      @MotorScotti 4 месяца назад

      The downside of never using the mechanical brakes due to regen is that the brake discs start to rust. It's become a real issues with EVs. Once you actually need them, they don't work anymore. Of course that doesn't happen over night, but still. My guess ist that Stellantis aren't offering full regen on their brands for that reason.

  • @mdavid200ify
    @mdavid200ify 7 месяцев назад +4

    It seems to me the Stellantis Group are really compromised by their use of a multi-engine platform - one is paying a premium for an EV yet getting the space and transmission tunnel restrictions of an ICE.
    As has been commented below - regenerative braking which does not bring the vehicle to a complete stop is also a fail which this car shares with quite a few others.
    It will be interesting to see if the Stellantis promises that the new battery/power/efficiency improvements result in 5 miles per Kwh proves to hold up to some longer term testing. Is this something Electrifying will be checking out, or are we stuck with just hearing manufacturer claims?
    I am not quite sure where the choice between the low power performance of this e308 or the stupidly fast performance of the MG4 Xpower came from; any one of the MG4 range is significantly more powerful than this e308 and also quite a bit cheaper.

      The tiny low sitting steering wheel is one of the main reasons I drive a Peugeot now and will most likely have a Peugeot next, too. Other cars feel kinda lorry-like to me with their huge steering wheels. And high up, too! Feels like being in a body search hands up against the wall when you are driving and that's not a nice feeling. 🤣
      Model 3 comes close to Peugeot. It has small'ish steering wheel which you can keep nice and low because there's no view to dials to block. Polestar 2 on the other hand has a huge wheel you need to keep uncomfortably high to see even most of the instrument cluster. A deal breaker for me.

    Nice car, but frankly overpriced for a C-segment family car. The price needs to come down by at least £10,000. The WLTP range is a bit underwhelming as well when the MG4 Long Range, Renault Megane Etech, Hyundai Kona, and Kia Niro EV all have over 270 miles of WLTP range and are the same price or less. Stellantis seriously need to have a look at their prices, this is not competitive. Nice review and car. I do hope it comes to the Kalifornia Kollective ... BUT, what worries me is the mouse potential. No one talks about what happens when the critters decide to start chewing on the wiring ... We need cars with massive wiring bundles to have a closed metal under-body tightly fitted.

      No. It's because Peugeot decided to skip the most wonderful feature an EV can have: one pedal driving. In city traffic you just have to stop every now and then and the most enjoyable way to do it is just lift your foot up. No moving it over to brake pedal, just lift it up. Nice!
      I'd like to see someone creep 5 mph past a red light yelling "I'm just conforming to Newton's 1st law, I can't help it!" 🤣

    257 miles. No Chance. you would be lucky to get 200 miles. The makers really do need to be called out on these outlandish figures from these (now)small batteries. Yes I know it;s a lab report number but I remember when the Zoe ZE50 came out and Citroen said that in normal driving it would achieve 180 miles in the Winter and 230 in Summer, less then the official 280 miles figures. Good review though.

      Peugeot has a calculator on their website where you can check an estimate on real word range. As you said, WLTP is just a lab result you should use for COMPARISON, not as a promise of real world range.

    Stellantis are currently hell bent to produce EVs that are too expensive. This is then followed by incredibly high devaluation... Take a nice £42,000 Stellantis BEV and in 3 years it will be worth £15,000 to £18,000.... So if you fancy loosing nearly £700/mth for 3 years.... buy a new Stellantis. However, if you would love to save a fortune, buy a 3 year old Stellantis EV.... After all, they are proving to be reliable and cheap to run and insure.

    • @bordersw1239

      Yep, bought a few low mileage 2-3 year old vehicles in the past. Last one (diesel) 16k miles, was less than half the new price, manufacturer’s 1 year warranty (extendable) also on a PCP.

      Hopefully these will be fleet cars, and fuel the second hand market in a couple of years. The e.corsa is a steal now. Regarding speed, I run a gen 1 leaf and its 0-60 in 10 still embarasses most cars as the initial kick is so good.

    • @mikadavies660
      @mikadavies660 7 месяцев назад

      @@willdclarke33 From my searches online it looks like 700,000 fleet EVs hitting the market in 2024. So yes.... I believe companies are buying new and people are considering new and are buying second hand. Personally I am leasing a Citroën E-C4. Lease is £265/mth vs £535 to buy. Then in 2025 I will probably buy a second hand 2022 car.

    EV prices are just too high for about 90% of potential buyers, and this is no different.
    Certainly too expensive for what you're getting. For the same sort of money, you can get a Honda Civic hybrid that has twice the range and never needs charging.
    The simple truth is, that right now is far too soon for the majority of drivers to make the switch to EVs. Prices are too high, and charging infrastructure is inadequate.
    If European car makers don't find a way to significantly lower their prices in the next ten years, they're going to lose a massive amount of customers to the Chinese...

    • @neilyoungman9814
      @neilyoungman9814 7 месяцев назад +2

      Maybe the Honda never needs charging but just plugging an EV in on the drive once or twice a week is so much more convenient than having to find a petrol station. I agree on the prices and infrastructure. We're not there yet.

    • @willdclarke33
      @willdclarke33 7 месяцев назад +1

      Prices are on the way down too. Expected price parity with petrol cars in the next 2 years. And consider then how laughably cheap they are to run! When petrol cars can only get more expensive.

    • @bill_heywood
      @bill_heywood 7 месяцев назад +1

      A Civic hybrid is £35k, so I guess 90% of potential buyers are priced out of that too. Good job, because once they bought it, they’d have to leave the house to go and buy tanks of petrol at £62.78 every time. An MG4 is only £27k, you can charge at home and a full charge would only be £4.83 on a clean green energy tariff. No tailpipe fumes either

    This is without doubt one of the best EVs on the market. This is exactly how it should be! The 208, Mini etc.
    Why do EVs need to look like something from a bad 70,s SiFi film?
    The sheer crap from Tesla ( stop for a second to consider Musk and our collective future... Bond villain but actually dangerous!) Hyundai, Kia, VW iD series, Porsche Taycan... god awful every single one of them!
    Produce and design EV like this 308 and get the infrastructure sorted and we might just get there. Perhaps.
