That was really helpful for me, thank you!
Glad to hear, thanks for the feedback.
great job
My escape has a massive gap on the left side so im going to shave the holes like you did. Your gap was on the lefty side too, right? So i will need to shave the same holes like you did.
Yes, that’s right and it’s possible the Escape has more allowance for adjustment, often vehicles do, but this Hyundai did not.
Hello, is it necessary to paint the hinge after the adjustment?
@REQuiemKV626 It would be a good idea to put something over the bare metal to make sure it doesn't rust.
Hi, do you think I can move one hinge up/down a little without loosening the one on the other side? The gaps are perfectly even and I just want to adjust the height on one side a little bit.
@@REQuiemKV626 It is still best to loosen both sides so that you don't end up putting pressure on the other hinge.
@@CarswithNash Is it possible to do it alone with both hinges loose?
Take the door off. Remove the hinges. Place washers or bushing plate between the vehicle body and hinge. Replace hing and door.
This way it will not slip back to the bad position. Gravity will have its way and the door will drop over and over with the enlarged holes nomatter how much you tighten
Hey Matt I was wondering what's going on with the neon/subaru nehru have you made any progress on it haven't seen nothing on it in a long time I'm giving it a break for the summer? I do miss your stories I always like your stories about you driving and breaking down and all that it's kind of fun to listen to you all your stories boy I have a lot of stories I could tell about cars I used to work for Hertz rent a car all the crazy things I did in rental cars me and my buddy we always drove in twos you had to drive with a second person in case your car broke down and you could ride with them so me and him were like evil and Knievel together LOL
I just posted a update on the Neoru a few weeks ago, it was done in a shorts format so maybe that’s why you missed it. I had taken time off of it to do the engine swap on the Mercedes and I had to do a few things to my mom‘s car as well. But I have been back on it for a few weeks now, just building skid plates and finishing up the exhaust currently. I do have more car stories to come, I actually have a bunch recorded that I just have to edit but I have been too busy in the shop to do very much editing, when I have time they will come back and by then hopefully I will have a bigger audience as well. It’s nice to hear that you were enjoying the car stories because some of them didn’t get very many views so I’m never sure… Anyways I do hope to have the Neoru done by late July or early August.
@@CarswithNash yeah I like the stories they're very entertaining and funny about breaking down out in the middle of nowhere. And I like them kind of stories but maybe some people don't ? Thanks anyways. I enjoy them.
Thankyou Matt,
I replaced my struts on my lift gate and I'm not understanding why it won't close correctly and there is a huge gap on the upper left side corner... what went wrong?
Love your work Matt.
Thanks!(-:
Hey, I have a 2003 Pt Cruiser GT. I replaced the battery, the alternator, I cleaned out the negative grounds and it still throwing check engine light codes including the battery light, voltage is good 12.4 what can I do to fix the problem before I sell the car? thanks!
12.4 running? That is on the low side actually. Maybe you got a faulty alternator…
@@CarswithNash oh, running is 13.5 but a cold start, voltage shows 12.2 or 12.4 I replaced the alternator with a rebuilt
@@lenseofanomad OK that’s more normal… Not sure why the light, if everything is working properly I would ignore the light, it’s probably a computer issue… But I can understand why you’d want to fix it if you’re selling it. Wish I could advise more but if you’ve already done those steps I’d have to say it’s probably a problem in the computer.
@@CarswithNash would a 2004 computer work in a 2003?
Buy new hinges if the issue is wear in the hinge pin?
@CHunt-cz1ek I'm betting new hinges would be hundreds of dollars, dealers charge heavy for things like that. Just not worth it for a junky old SUV.
@@CarswithNash Depending on the year, they appear to be about $50-$60 a set. Now, I appreciate the inventiveness of your approach (actually "fixing" the mechanism), but sometimes a new part is less complicated.
@CHunt-cz1ek Nothing inventive about it, I'm a bodyman with over 20 years of experience and that's just how things are typically aligned, both in factories and repair shops. Now if the hinges were actually worn to a point where it was compromised and weakened, I would definitely spring for new ones, that was not the case, it probably wasn't even that worn, just a combination of a little wear added to poor alignment from the factory.
