This video shows a little trick that may work if your minivan or SUV rear hatch or door is not closing automatically as it should. The problem is that the door is popping back open - the sensor is reading an error or blockage and doesn't close or latch. This video shows a 2015 Toyota Sienna AWD. After checking for blockages, weatherstripping, or hinges that seize up, try unscrewing the taillights housing and push gently outward on the housing while simultaneously tightening them back up. Do that on both taillight housing.

Dealer repair shops will probably charge 400 to resolve this and claim the sensors had to be swapped out

i had some pollen and small leaves, that may also cause issues. I adjusted the tail lights as well. so far, so good. I would also recommend cleaning the entire back hatch area to keep it clean. Also, lube up the locking lever with silicone grease.

I have a 2013 XLE and mine has the same 10mm screws that hold the rear light assembly in place. Mine did the same thing after I removed the light assembly to clean around it. After I replaced it, the door wouldn't shut ( would almost, then would open ) once I loosened the screws again, pushed the assembly outward and retightened, it works again.
