The movie is so painfully relatable, i am not even from usa nor live in a desert town and i found characters resembling people i could actually find around here. Uncle Rico's actor also puts out some real top notch acting despite the comedic undertones the struggle of letting go of the things you could have been to move forward is a painful process that basically everyone that ever lived will go through.
I agree. This movie is so simple, which makes it very relatable to so many people. That’s what I love about it. It just goes to show that everyone has a story, and their story just might be one you haven’t heard yet. That’s the beauty of truly getting to know someone. No matter how extravagant or simple their life may seem on the outside, it what lies within that matters most. We’re all going through or dealing with something in our lives. If more people would stop focusing on disliking what makes us all “different” and appreciate the good in others (kind of the story of this movie), the world could be a much kinder place for us all to live in.
When I saw this video was 37 minutes, I initially thought there would be a lot of useless filler. I was wrong. Great and captivating video the whole time.
I always figured this was filmed in Idaho, but it's nice to have confirmation! As a lifelong east coaster, used to flat, swampy, urban sprawl, seeing kids living in a town surrounded by gorgeous mountains felt like seeing another planet.
I’m sure it gets requested by students from year to year. I just love the colors of those lockers. I’ve never seen lockers in those colors like that ever before.
I think this video does a great job shedding light on why this movie is so believable and relatable. They didn't create movie sets. They just filmed in real, everyday locations. There is never a moment where it feels like a setting was created just for that shot. Instead of creating settings for a shot, they shot the real life settings.
Genuinely surprised that Pedro’s house was actually located in Preston. I always found it funny that the only Hispanic family in town would somehow find the only adobe Spanish style house in a remote town. 🤣🤣. It makes me happy that most of these places are still there and were real. With that being the case I see how it was so cheap to film everything.

Drove there all the way from Oklahoma a couple years back. Twas an awesome experience. The town is very quiet and all you hear is the wind. Saw Napoleon's house and Pedro's. The school and Pedro's house are literally across the street. Sadly didn't stay long but I was happy to see things. I highly suggest making the pilgrimage.

And a few relatives were in the movie including a cousin in the Happy Hands Club (She was at my aunt's b-day party)🤣 One of my cousin's lived in "Pedro's" basement at one time (no joke). I have relatives who work at the egg farm.
Thank you, and thanks for sharing that info. That’s so cool that you have all of those connections. I think I mention it in the video but I live nowhere near Preston and have been there twice. I set out to go there the first time and thought that would be the only time I’d ever be there. Then several years later I was making my way somewhat nearby and took a detour to purposely visit again. I hope to get back there again some day too. Kings was a chain that had locations in Idaho and Utah (possibly Wyoming?). They began having hard times and closed stores one or two at a time. They no longer exist. The Kings location in Preston was later occupied by a second hand store. The last time I was there near the end of August 2021, they were closing things out. The Rex Quan Do building was once Idaho Appliance and Sport shop. They sold all sorts of things, like Honda motorcycles, appliances, guns and ammunition, hunting clothing, etc. It was quite the place to visit when I was a youngster. We bought several motorcycles from there over the years.
Such a great video. My wife and I went to Preston last June to find the locations based on a couple websites and we’ll have to go back to see all the new stuff in your video. We found an amazing wooden picture frame in that Deseret thrift store that said “Preston High School” so we used that to frame a photo of us we took in front of the high school that same day.
I hope to get back one day again myself. And that’s very cool about the picture frame. I went in the store myself but didn’t look around to shop. Next time I’ll definitely have to then, maybe I can come across a gem like that too.
This was great to watch, and the fact its so recent is perfect. I’m planning on visiting Preston 9/6 for this very purpose and will use your video as my guide. Also, I too live in Ohio, so there’s that!
Sometimes it’s the simple things that matter the most in life IMO. That sort of summarizes this movie in a nutshell. It was a simple story about a simple town with simple people, and yet, there’s a lot of good to take away from it at the end. It just goes to show how life doesn’t always have to been so confusing and complicated. It can be pretty damn good when you strip away all the BS and just focus on the important little things that have been right under your nose the entire time. We just weren’t paying attention to them. Thanks for the comment.
I too am in Ohio and hope to one day make it out to Preston Idaho to check out Napoleon Dynamite filming locations. Back in 1989 a friend and I went to Pittsburgh PA to check out filming locations for Night Of The Living Dead. It's a pretty long story but were able to meet friends with Karl (Harry Cooper) Hardman at his studio that he was still involved with in 1989. We were invited inside and he spent over 2 hours talking to us about the filming of NOLD. The most amazing part of the trip was he arranged access for us to see the basement used in Night Of The Living Dead. I eventually became friends with Karl Hardman and always tried to stay in contact with him whenever possible. Unlike the character Harry Cooper in the movie, he was one of the nicest people that I ever had the pleasure to meet and call him a friend.
Awesome job finding all the locations. I really enjoyed this video. I'm a photographer for ComicCon, and I had quite a few chances to talk to John Heater
Thank you very much, and I appreciate your comment. My style has always been to show what it is I’m there to film and share with others, not to show me standing in front of the camera blocking whatever it is I’m there to see. That’s never been my style. I appreciate you recognizing that. Thanks!
This was cool to watch and be able to recognize actual locations from the movie. Back in the actual 80’s there was a movie called Angus. That was filmed in and took place in a town called Owatonna Minnesota. The main character was a high school boy named Angus Baffon. And he was played by Charlie Talbot his Mom was Cathy Bates and his Grandpa was George C Scott. I really wish you would check it out. I have a feeling that you might find it enjoyable.
Excellent upload ! I have to make a correction though. Around 3:40 when Uncle Rico threw the steak that hit Napoleon in the face you commented… “That was kind of a funny scene.” Dude…it was hilarious !!🤣 🤣 !!!
My brother-in-law worked at that King's store when they were filming. He was told by his manager to go work in the basement because "they're filming a movie". He had no idea what was going on. I ended up working at a different King's in Star Valley, Wyoming a few years later, and the way it's shown in the movie is pretty exact to how life was at King's. They shut down all the stores 5 years ago, but it was a fun experience.
Thanks for putting this together. This amazing film has one of the most interesting sets I’ve ever seen. Very rural and unpretentious so it was great to watch and learn from this! Flipping awesome 👏
Your aren’t wrong about that feeling. It’s about as simple of a story and movie that you could put together, and I think part of that is why so many people like it for exactly just that.
Lived in Logan, UT for 16 years, which is about 20 mins south of Preston. moved there the year this movie came out. Did a lot of work in that area. Drove past the high school a lot! Not much worth doing in that town. I was born and raised in Pocatello ID however. It was there city bus that was used in the movie.
My family is from Wellsville Utah, I know you know where that is. My grandpa has a softball park there named after him. This movie is about my home and I love it so much
I lived in Wellsville in the early 70’s & now in the town east of there. My Uncle is the weather man there & last name Roundy. Speaking of Pocatello my Dad built the Taco Time there. It was a old Radio Station & they moved it closer to street. Dad lived in the basement working on it As for the Cuttin Corral I got a hair cut there once because I was dating the owners Daughter. Those sand dunes are a fun place, been there once in the late 80’s & camped there. The Valley is sure changing & sad to see the farm ground go.
Thank you for an excellent video on one of my favorite movies. This film means so much to me. I’ve been through a lot in the last 19 years since it’s release (near death experience, divorce, etc.) It’s my go to comfort movie. I live in Ohio now, and hope to visit Preston one day. Thanks again!
I have really enjoyed finding the locations for movies and putting videos like this together for them. More and more people have been doing them over the years so if there’s a movie you are interested in, search around, someone may have posted one.
good job at finding those locations , I used to live in Preston when I was a kid and I don't think I could have done a better job at finding those key locations !
Here in Logan, UT, just down the road from Preston, Uncle Rico’s van used to pop up around town with ‘For Sale’ sign every few years. Haven’t seen it for about 10 years or so. It was starting to look pretty rough the last time I saw it.
Haha. I got a picture holding a football next to Uncle Rico's van in 2006 while in Preston on Napoleon Dynamite Day. We happened to be in Preston for a family reunion. I believe the local dealership owned it at that time and used it for charity fundraising/promotions. But I'm not 100% sure.
Everyone has already said it.. but a Great & absolutely Amazing job!! 🔥🔥 thank you for this ❤️. I get Napoleon fever from time to time lol and this video gave me everything I needed 😊.. again thank you very much for all your work.
Thank you for such a great video. I love Napoleon Dynamite and what amazes me is how beautiful the location is! I’m English and we don’t really have mountains like that here. Or much sunshine 😂. Great video, let’s hope there’s a Napoleon Dynamite 2 🤞🏻
Hey, maybe I can ride my scooter out to Idaho and check things out! Boy, talk about a long trip from Ohio. :) Thanks for creating this video, it's one of my all-time favorite movies and I've often thought about what it would be like to live a simple life in a small town like this. Get me some chickens and a llama or two!
I know, right! When he said he got his hair cut at the Cuttin’ Curral in the movie I cracked up because I thought they just had him say that as a line in the movie to be funny. I thought it was totally made up. But then when I was walking around in Preston and stumbled across it, I started cracking up. I couldn’t believe it was a real place. That made me laugh even more than I did when he said it in the movie. Too funny.
I got a haircut there from the owner once because I was dating her Daughter. They gave me a Napoleon shirt with that phrase on it. I never wore it & still in the closet. I noticed a couple of years ago that place was shut down.
Thanks man. I wish I had more videos than pictures to make this video, but the first time I went there I really only took pictures. I never knew I would be doing projects like this down the road. The second time I was there I was pressed for time and only got to shoot a few locations. I figured it would be better just to go ahead and combined them like this for a video than to not do anything with them together at all.
@@ComeSeeWithMe believe me, I know what you mean lol. Sometimes it’s cool to see both pics and video images, together. It came out really well and you hit all the locations, and even found the bus stop. Solid dt work on that one! So many funny scenes and lines in this now classic flick.
I grew up in a town of 500 in the Midwest. That movie was so much like me life. We went thru Preston and hit all the spots. I think there must be a new owner of Napoleon's house because when we drove by there was a lady (coming home from work it looked like) and there were a lot of kids toys in the yard. She looked not at all impressed when we stopped to take the picture, which I totally get, particularly if she had kids. This was at least 10 years ago-Rex Qwon Do still existed but I think was in a different spot. Great movie and a nice, quintessential "flyover country" town.
Interest about the woman at Napoleon’s house. That makes it sound like the house may be under new ownership now. When I was there they were almost encountering people to take pics, they even had a sign out front that said you could. If there is a new family living there, you’d have to image it was relayed to them that people will be stopping by to take pictures.

Thanks and I hope you enjoy your visit!
good job my man! the movie is so awesome.. and you taking the time to show the locations and explaining them.. pure gold!
You’re welcome and thanks!
Man, I've wanted to visit this place since the movie came out. NOt sure I'll ever make it. Thanks so much for this video.
You’re welcome, and I hope you get to visit sometime yourself.
What a great vid man. Thank you so much for taking the time and doing this. Much much appreciated.
Thank you! I appreciate it!
This movie changed my life. Thanks so much for reminding me of better times with this video!
Thanks for sharing that info, that’s very cool!
That gravel road.......... wow gives me childhood feels...
Gotta love the things that bring back good childhood memories.
Its weird how i kind of get chills seeing the locations in this video that feel so familiar from seeing N.D. so many times
Great video brother! Makes me want to go check the locations out myself one day. One of my fav movies.
Thank you! I hope you get to see them yourself one day.
Wow! What a great video! Thank you for your dedication and commitment to make this into a reality! What a nice treat for the super fans!!!
Thanks and your welcome
Amazing video man. To say this is in depth is an understatement. You really put a lot of work into this
Thank you, I appreciate the comment!
@@ComeSeeWithMe you're welcome!
Awesome job finding all the locations. I really enjoyed this video. I'm a photographer for ComicCon, and I had quite a few chances to talk to John Heater
Thanks. And thanks very cool that you got to talk to both of them.
VERY enjoyable tour pf this location. Thank you!! LOVE the movie & you did a great job presenting the town. 👍
Thank you very much!
Very thorough locations video. Now I want to watch the movie again. Good job!!
Thanks!
Dude, you went way above and beyond with this! Amazing work.
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Thank you for taking the time to put this together. It was very interesting.
Thanks, and you’re welcome.
Tha is for the tour, you are great. Love Napoleon Dynamite my favorite too!!!
Thanks, glad you liked it.
Love the concept and your filming style. All Locations and zero locator. Some these folks got it the other way ‘round. Please Keep em’ comin !
Thank you very much, and I appreciate your comment. My style has always been to show what it is I’m there to film and share with others, not to show me standing in front of the camera blocking whatever it is I’m there to see. That’s never been my style. I appreciate you recognizing that. Thanks!
@@ComeSeeWithMe Always welcome, lookin forward to the next ones!
Thanks for making the location video. Napoleon Dynamite was such a great, quirky movie. Besides Napoleon, Uncle Rico and Kip crack me up.
You’re welcome, always glad to hear when people enjoy the videos. And I agree, they all crack me up too.
The Cuttin' Corral is real?! That's awesome!
I know, right! I thought that was in the movie simply to be funny. I had no idea it was an actual place! That made it even better!
Great work, Man!!
Thank you
Enjoyed this alot. Appreciate your time and effort!
Thank you!
Excellent upload !
I have to make a correction though.
Around 3:40 when Uncle Rico threw the steak that hit Napoleon in the face you commented… “That was kind of a funny scene.”
Dude…it was hilarious !!🤣 🤣 !!!
Ha! You’re right, it was!
Great vid. Thanks for the tour! Covered WAY more than I thought you'd be able to find! Very interesting.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing that info! Much appreciated.
One of the best comedies ever made
Yep!
That's actually a beautiful area. I didn't know Idaho was that nice.
Idaho is an extremely beautiful state! There are a lot of very beautiful places throughout the state, and a lot of areas that are untouched.
I'm from Idaho
@@aksemoran I'm Spartacus
Doesn't seem polluted like most places.
Now that I live in AZ, I should do a filming locations video for Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. That was filmed not far from where I live now.
Classic one! Thankyou for this. Made me smile. :-)
I’m happy to hear this, and you’re welcome.
Thanks for putting this together. This amazing film has one of the most interesting sets I’ve ever seen. Very rural and unpretentious so it was great to watch and learn from this! Flipping awesome 👏
Thanks!
Haven't seen the movie, but there is something zen about this video. Really relaxing!
Dad lived in the basement working on it
As for the Cuttin Corral I got a hair cut there once because I was dating the owners Daughter.
Those sand dunes are a fun place, been there once in the late 80’s & camped there.
The Valley is sure changing & sad to see the farm ground go.
One of the best filming location videos yet , 👍
Thanks!
Going there this weekend! Thank you!
I really appreciate your time and effort in doing this! This my all time favorite movie!!!❤❤❤
You’re welcome!
Thank you very much. And I’m glad you’re able to pull something from this movie to help yourself.
@@ComeSeeWithMe Thank you. Life is good now. Looking forward to watching more of your excellent videos. Happy Thanksgiving!
There are so many movies i would love to see something like this for.
Thank you very much!
@@ComeSeeWithMe your welcome!
Awesome job brother. Thank you for the time and effort!
Thanks!
So cool! I live just over the border in Utah.
Here in Logan, UT, just down the road from Preston, Uncle Rico’s van used to pop up around town with ‘For Sale’ sign every few years. Haven’t seen it for about 10 years or so. It was starting to look pretty rough the last time I saw it.
I’ve been to Logan. I visited Utah State twice. Nice town and school. And I have heard that about the van before. I’d love to own that thing! Ha ha
I love this video you did an awesome job! I would love for you to do Friday Night Light's filming locations.
Thank you!
Impressive work. Well done. I’ve been there for their annual N.Dynamite gathering, its fun
Thanks!
Everyone has already said it.. but a Great & absolutely Amazing job!! 🔥🔥 thank you for this ❤️. I get Napoleon fever from time to time lol and this video gave me everything I needed 😊.. again thank you very much for all your work.
Thanks for the comment and I’m glad you enjoyed it!
One of my favorite movies....thanks for this video....I really enjoyed it.
Thanks and I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent video! Thank you for doing this. That seems like a really cool town to visit if I ever get out that way. I’m from Ohio myself.
Thank you for such a great video. I love Napoleon Dynamite and what amazes me is how beautiful the location is! I’m English and we don’t really have mountains like that here. Or much sunshine 😂. Great video, let’s hope there’s a Napoleon Dynamite 2 🤞🏻
Thanks for the kind comment.
excellent upload.. that's a huge effort finding/documenting all these locations.
wish you all the best, vote for pedro!!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Thank u for this great content 🙏🏽😃
You’re welcome!
Very well done. Greatly enjoyed this.
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it and I appreciate the comment.
One of my favorite movies, love it! LOL the Cuttin Curral too funny...
Too funny.
@@ComeSeeWithMe I bet the people at the cuttin curral were like “omg!” 🤣🤣🤣
I got a haircut there from the owner once because I was dating her Daughter. They gave me a Napoleon shirt with that phrase on it. I never wore it & still in the closet. I noticed a couple of years ago that place was shut down.
Excellent job bro! I’m a big fan of this movie.
That was awesome, thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
I'd love to live in that town, the views of the mountains are beautiful.
I live near Preston. A great view from every window.
It’s amazing how everything still looks the same after so many years
I agree. It’s pretty much all the same.
They had to roll with what they had. O heard the budget for the movie was like $400k
Fellow Ohioan here! I'm thinking a good road trip will be in order someday to check it out! Great video!
This was really great! Nice work digging up all of these locations. If I ever find myself near Idaho, I'll check it out.
Thanks and I hope you get to see them yourself.
Great job. I bet you had fun creating this
Thank you. And yes, I had a blast doing these locations!
Love strawberry shakes, a little Cafe in christoval texas has the best strawberry malts on the planet
Thanks for the info!
