I remember hearing that Reagan was joking with the medical staff as he was being prepared for surgery after being shot. "I hope everybody here is a Republican." The surgeon, a life-long Democrat, replied, "Today we're all Republicans, Mr President."
We had this in my city, Aachen (Aix-la-chapelle) a number of years ago when Clinton got the Karlspreis. The whole inner city experienced a sort of lockdown. Never happened with a politician before or after.
My aunt had a bakery near Kennebunkport, Maine, and had a visit from the former first lady Bush '41. The advance team swept her entire store in under 10 minutes. She said it was one of the coolest things she had ever seen, and freaked her out completely!
The ink library only makes sense if you know that -- until 2003, when it became part of the Department of Homeland Security -- the U.S. Secret Service was part of the Treasury Department.
Back in 2012, Obama's convoy drove thru my little iowa town (5000 ppl). I was at work and my truck was parked on the side of the 2 lane highway that runs thru town. About an hour before he came thru, a secret service agent came in and said I had to move my truck somewhere else. It was pretty cool
Also when the president flies, there are 2 planes that can serve as Air Force One. Each plane is stocked with the same amount of food, water, snacks, and ect. No one including the pilots or the secret service agents know which plane will be used until moments before departure.
It's amazing all that the secret service can do. I'd trust them to protect whomever they have in their care (though I wouldn't trust them with a cell phone, they have very bad luck protecting those).
Every recipe in the White House kitchen is on a computer that will cross-check it with every White House guests’ food allergies to be sure that anything from a 2 person lunch to a 200 person state dinner is safe for not just the President, but for every guest.
Makes me wonder how the Secret Service dealt with the last president and his obsession with fast food, particularly McDonald's. Did they have to have an agent who's primary job was to watch McDonald's employees prepare food?
With something like pizza, they will order it to a location that you would have no clue it was for the President. Just a random address to the fast food place. I assume they did the same thing for trump. If you don’t know it’s for the President why would you poison the food. Guess he could still get unlucky if they were just poisoning random ppls food
Yes, undercover agents will go and order any food the president wants. No one ever knows the food is for the president or his family. They just walk in like normal people and order the food. Moreover, when the White House cooks need to get food at supermarket, teams of undercover agents will go to different supermarkets to procure the food. They must go to different places so that there a lesser chance of bad or spoiled food. The same happens when they need to restock the food on Air Force One. If the president orders a pizza, it is delivered to a different address and inspected before going to the White House.
I worked in a ER and when any President motorcade went by...S.S , more trauma surgeons, lots of blood on standby etc. As soon as his car was out of range they were gone in a minute.
"There is no way they have the time to"....let me just stop you there, no matter what words were to follow. Yes, we do. And we do. The US budget is obscene.
“The salaries of Secret Service Special Agents in the US range from $19,348 to $511,652 , with a median salary of $93,717 . The middle 57% of Secret Service Special Agents makes between $93,727 and $232,721, with the top 86% making $511,652.”
They also investigate computer crimes, and counterfeit US currency, credit card crimes. not just protecting the president. Yes, they do. Keywords etc will trigger a response.
When the president goes to a place such as a school, SS investigates the staff including teachers' background and political beliefs. Same with hotel staff. I would guess, pure guessing, that agents make at least $100,000 per year.
I once, Very Accidently, launched an arrow in the general direction of a secret service agent. Prez or VP was in town... big election year but i forget who it was, visiting my school. During gym class we were outside during an archery day...a dumb no training session of get the snotty brats outside with "weapons" (was a very different era of at home lawn dart "dodgeball" using metal trash can lids for shields and "games of "army" with you hiding on neighbors roofs or in drum barrels or in random open cars within the radius)... and we had crappy bows and sketchy arrows and targets you could maybe hit. I drew back and the arrow slid off line as I released... just to watch it perfectly arch exactly toward an agent that was on the roof of an adjacent bldg. 😑 had no distance to it but i remember the dark suit, dark eyeglasses looking right in my direction. Suppose that was added to a file already in play. Meh.
Don't forget the tactic of deleting a whole bunch of text messages to and from secret service agents around a very specific date that could make the agency look really bad....
So...my (half) brother worked for the govt & needed to gain a higher level security clearance for that position. They went over MY life & my husband's with a fine toothed comb because my name change triggered a flag. I had my entire name changed at 19...then my last name changed again when I married. I had to turn over ALL my & my husband's court documents, employment history, addresses ever lived at, phone numbers, schools attended, etc. My husband was adopted as a young child so we didn't have or know ANY info prior to him being taken from his biological parents by CPS & most of the info from the years he was in foster care prior to his adoption. The govt had access to that stuff and were gracious enough to give us that info which surprised us. His last year working directly for the govt was during trump's 1st year...he resigned. My dad said something derogatory about trump while on the phone with my brother & he had to tell him that he CANNOT say, text or email anything like that to him on that phone. He didn't get in trouble & said it was most likely because everything was such an absolute shitshow then. 😂
Love the Uzi in the secret service agents hand in the last clip, I’ve seen the assassination attempt on raegan so many times but that uzi never gets old. He was ready to blast somebody
Bill Clinton ate burgers, must've made the SS agents crazy. The president's motorcade drove by on the interstate, the state troopers cleared about five miles of interstate, most interesting thing I ever saw. LEO's every damn where.
If you can watch this and BELIEVE that this level of training exists in America, then you should ask; "Where were all these HIGHLY trained officers on January 6th or even Uvalde police just standing around while children are murdered?" If we truly are that HIGHLY trained then why all the mass murder, why can't we stop MASS MURDER??!
I am not sure about the food situation. Ive seen Obama eat a cookie at a resturant and ordered food for his staff that was with him. I seen biden eating ice cream on one of his visits.
Presidents are no longer allowed to drive in public for life once elected president. President Brush likes to stay on his ranch because he can drive his pick up there. But once he needs to leave the property, he must take a presidential limo and a secret service team
Growing up in DC & eventually working for the Smithsonian, I was fortunate enough to witness the Secret Service & presidential convoys 1st hand. From Jimmy Carter all the way up to Obama. It's definitely a sight to behold. You get to the point when you can guess that the president will be coming through. Police cars will sit at all of the intersections on the whole route for at least an hour ahead of the convoy. Then they will stop traffic for the ENTIRE route. If the convoy is going 10 miles, the traffic is stopped for 10 miles. You 1st see about 12 police motorcycles, that clear the road. Even making people stay on the sidewalk. Then maybe 10 police cars. Then the Beast & 2 other decoy limos, 5 SUVs, the last with the back door open & Secret Service hanging out with machine guns, & an ambulance & more police cars bringing up the rear. It's Amazing!
Secret Service budget for FY22 is $2.6 billion which is somehow less than I'd thought it'd be. That's also only 3% of the budget for the Department of Homeland Security. I know you're also interested in all the natural disasters we have here, so you also might be interested to learn that a little over 1/3 of DHSs $90.8 billion goes to FEMA (disaster relief). The rest is split between border patrol, coast guard, ICE, USCIS, and Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.
I don't agree with life long protection at all. Hw has a food taster too. They didn't mention it. Huge respect to these agents in protecting someone you most likely don't even like.
LOL why is there any coverage of Bernie Sanders? like he will ever be president or anyone would harm him. That was a great reaction and info but that really cracked me up.

The Secret Service also welds all manhole covers on the motorcade route! All public trash cans are removed so no explosives can be placed in then.
Holy Heck!
We had this in my city, Aachen (Aix-la-chapelle) a number of years ago when Clinton got the Karlspreis. The whole inner city experienced a sort of lockdown. Never happened with a politician before or after.
They don't weld the manhole covers. You couldn't open them ever again if that were true. They likely place sensors on them or use magnetic lockbolts.

@@medusastone2725 the Secret Service was originally formed by President Lincoln to investigate counterfeit currency.

The biggest threat to the former guy was his own mouth, good idea to keep it stuffed with junk food.
I wouldn't think the president gets hundreds of threats.

I'm guessing that the workers preparing the food never knew it was for the President so no need to watch its preparation.
Only a small percentage of agents are assigned to protection detail. The agency also investigates fraud and counterfeiting.
The "fake hand" thing has been debunked.
